#Halo

In case you haven't noticed, Halo's idea was from the Bible.

I think loads of people know this but for those of you who do not... Well, was in my Church when the Pastor starts going on about "The Covenant" and "The Ark" and I was like, "Oh my god, the Pastor plays Halo as well?" So I searched Wikipedia (no, not Halopedia) and look what I found... The Covenant The Ark of The Covenant Notice. The Ark. The Covenant. And what are the Covenant obsessed with? The Ark. (Also, 2 of the levels in Halo 3, lol.) The Flood and The Ark There are 2 different Arks in the Bible. One is the aforementioned one and the other is this one. Noah's Ark and The Flood. The >>>>FLOOD<<<<. Why give such a weird name for a parasite otherwise? Prophets Herecy (Used by The Covenant) Well, both of the articles have the word "Religion" in it and what do we usually associate Religion with? *cough* One more thing...
1 In the beginning was the Word: and the Word was with God: and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. 4 In him was life: and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness: and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the light, that all men might believe through him.
John 1: 1-7, or John 117? Found here. (Thanks to clOaKdOoD who helped me find the link!) Well, what do you think? And yes, I do know that this is common knowledge. Some of the more INTELLIGENT comments: Thanks.
Posted by: clOaKdOoD
...different meanings...
Ever heard of parallel? The OP's parallel is excellent, but I don't think anyone has had the courage to post something like that. At least he is contributing to the community instead of tearing it down.
Nice explantion. To enforce the point below, read John 1: 1-7.
Posted by: BEAST Well Master cheif is definitly on the good side. It's like this 1. God makes Religion. 2. God makes guide to the living (Bible). 3. Mass part of the world accepts Religion. 4. Most of the mass misunderstands Religion, by lack of understanding Guide. 5. Mass of people who don't understand the right way are screwing everything up and want to kill everybody....not quite literally. (i'm not trying to target muslim extremist, because christrians will do it also). 6. Guys who understand it are outnumbered. The trust is in God to set things right. 7. God works miracals that are not statistically logical to man. To explain # 7 in halo style. - All the crap Master cheif did is crazy and he should have died a million deaths. The covenant was to strong for the human race. Still we pulled through because good always wins...God always wins. Clutch performance.
[Edited on 05.06.2008 6:02 AM PDT]

 • the ad campaign for halo 3 was BELIEVE as in believe in humanity, the good fight. in John verse 7 it says that "He came so that through him all men might believe" in halo we can still believe due to Master Cheif's heroics, in the bible we can believe due to Jesus. just a thought.

 • i think a lot of terminology and ideology was taken from real world religions. however, i don't feel that the creators created a direct link between the bible and halo like lord of the rings or the chronicles of narnia.

 • Off topic: I say, it can be looked at from different views, and this replies to religion as well. I believe that Evolution and Religion may be melded. On topic: how much of an idiot, nay, in fact, you'd have to be just a great at denying - i won't say that you could deny life, for i have a few theories about this, though it does lead back to life - do you have to be in order have to be in order to say that there are no connections, or that they are all coincedences. There are clear connections. EDIT: i do not mean to insult any one, sorry if i did. I was a little hypocritical there. [Edited on 05.06.2008 11:49 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: STi Newb Cake i want to be your friend i like the way u handeled the situation in the halo/ bible forum...your right the bible is the best
If you were talking to me, sure? Now about the Forerunners being God: That can't be because of the existence of the Precursors. They came before the Forerunners, and the Forerunners studied the Precursors with the same awe that th Humans and Covenant do in the 26th century. God came first, and knows all. There are undeniably many valid links; I just don't think that is one.

 • To cyber freak: If you have read my past posts, I said the flood represents sin. Sin has gotten all of us. We still have salvation, which can save humanity (Master chief AKA "Jesus"). You should definitly look at all the past pages to see what you have missed because I'm tired of reposting stuff.

 • I knew halo had biblical references, but I would of never thought anything about the Ark, or the flood. Good findings. Religion can be amazing and devistating at the same time.

 •
Posted by: RoseHeart Well I'm over this topic. You cannot use any intelligence or anything to do with your brain when talking to a religious person. If you believe in any religion you are delusional. And trying to make people believe you just proves how stupid you really are. The only reason Christianity is so popular is because of the easy promise of heaven and something after your death. Christians and other religious people are too scared to truly believe in other people and reality. They need another mysterious person up in the sky to say what's right and wrong. To say if something goes bad then it was his way. He made it happen for a reason. It's impossible to talk sense into someone of faith, because that's all they have... Faith. Faith is fake, faith is nothing. Prayer is the laziest act of making yourself feel better. Make yourself believe you are doing something to help when you truly are the most ignorant bigot. You really are bigoted arseholes. Get a grip on life. There's is nothing that can be said to change your mind to think logically and truthfully. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
Agreed, but you couldve said it in a slightly more repectful way

 • Did anyone notice that the storyline is ever so slightly anti-religion? The Prophets dedication to their religion leads them to commit genocide. Their misguided beliefs in the tenents of their religion put them on a path to ignorantly destroy all sentient life in the galaxy. Their refusal to stray from their beliefs causes them to reject the truth that humans are the "chosen" people of their gods, the Forerunners. The power that the Prophets have ammassed within their religion corrupts them and causes them to betray their own followers with the lies that they create to keep their followers ignorant of truth so that they'll blindly follow their religious edicts. The Halo story line is not an uplifting perspective on religion. It should also be noted that the story of the "flood" destroying the earth is an archetype that is common amongst many cultures and is not in any way exclusive to the christianity. It would appear that Bungie did not draw from the bible but instead drew from historical architypes for those story elements.

 • To Sanghelios: what you stated below. I know for a fact that christianity comes from chritst jesus. I also know that Jesus's deciples spread the word forming christianity I also know that Jesus messages are printed IN THE BIBLE. I also know that a few things were tweaked in religion (I'm not targeting anybody). Even my pastor tells me to read the bible. Who says you cant learn from somebody else. How are you supposed to get the message. BRAIN WAVES (scarcasm). Technically nobody is hearinh anything. We are all just typing away. Just thought I would point that out. WE ARE STILL OFF TOPIC.

 •
Posted by: The Storm Mist
Posted by: BEAST Lucifer was jealouse of god because he couldn't get in on the plan god had. Lucifer was never told anything that God didn't wan't him to know. And God is way more powerful than Lucifer. Lucifer thought that he could rule better thne God. That Led to problems. In The ten Commandments, it states to not covet. That is what Lucifer did. Lucifer became the devil from his sinful thoughts. Also Everything was perfect before sin.
As a side note, there are 7 Devils - one for each Deadly Sin. I got this info and some more from several books, random websites, and my own reasoning. And Lucifer is a different fallen angel to Satan (Satan=accuser). A Fallen Angel is different to a Demon. Thus, i reason that the 'Devil' is a clan of the most powerful Fallen Angels, to represent the Deadly Sins. Any way, you speak as if you were there. You weren't. Don't be so sure. It seems to me that God is afraid, and punish's innocents, causes wars and leads to trouble. For all we know, he could be 'Lucifer' after succeding his 'Mission'. My opinion. As i have stated, i can't conjure up all facts right now, as i'm tired. But i'd tell you what i can remember after i've been in shower.
None of that crap's in the Bible. Haven't you ever been told not to believe everything you hear? Especially on teh internetz? If you want to be a true Christian, there are a few requirements: accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, and not add anything (or support adding anything) to the Bible. You can't trust the internet, you can't trust the pope, you can't trust pastors, you can't trust philosophers. The Bible is the one true source. And many so-called Christians have added to the Bible. I won't name them here, because they believe they are Christians, and if I angered them they would flame and/or report me, which could lead to this topic being locked and possibly a blacklisting. Of course, if you're not a Christian that's your own choice, but you should still understand what Christianity is truly about. Now, to get back on topic: Yes, many people have left the discussion, including the OP. This has become an absolutely massive thread, and there is no reason to lock it as it has not devolved into a insult-throwing contest. Just stay on topic. There is alot of misinformation being spread about besides what I just went into detail about. The Flood are intelligent. The Gravemind is exceedingly intelligent, but every Flood infection form is intelligent as well. They begin as nonsentient life, communicating through pheromones. Then as they progress they are able to communicate, apparently through physic channeling. This information is the Beastarium. As the Flood grow in intelligence, a Gravemind forms. But the Flood are capable of such complex tasks as repairing and operating Human, Covenant, and Forerunner technology. This is not only stated in the Beastarium, but evidenced when the Flood pilot Pelicans, fire weapons, etc. So the Halo doesn't discriminate. It destroys all life, or at least, "all life with sufficient biomass" to support the Flood. Which is why we see birds and insects on Halo, because they could not support the Flood. So the Flood walker forms would all die, though the infection forms would survive apparently, because it has been said that the Flood would starve without their food.
