#Halo

In case you haven't noticed, Halo's idea was from the Bible.

I think loads of people know this but for those of you who do not... Well, was in my Church when the Pastor starts going on about "The Covenant" and "The Ark" and I was like, "Oh my god, the Pastor plays Halo as well?" So I searched Wikipedia (no, not Halopedia) and look what I found... The Covenant The Ark of The Covenant Notice. The Ark. The Covenant. And what are the Covenant obsessed with? The Ark. (Also, 2 of the levels in Halo 3, lol.) The Flood and The Ark There are 2 different Arks in the Bible. One is the aforementioned one and the other is this one. Noah's Ark and The Flood. The >>>>FLOOD<<<<. Why give such a weird name for a parasite otherwise? Prophets Herecy (Used by The Covenant) Well, both of the articles have the word "Religion" in it and what do we usually associate Religion with? *cough* One more thing...
1 In the beginning was the Word: and the Word was with God: and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. 4 In him was life: and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness: and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the light, that all men might believe through him.
John 1: 1-7, or John 117? Found here. (Thanks to clOaKdOoD who helped me find the link!) Well, what do you think? And yes, I do know that this is common knowledge. Some of the more INTELLIGENT comments: Thanks.
Posted by: clOaKdOoD
...different meanings...
Ever heard of parallel? The OP's parallel is excellent, but I don't think anyone has had the courage to post something like that. At least he is contributing to the community instead of tearing it down.
Nice explantion. To enforce the point below, read John 1: 1-7.
Posted by: BEAST Well Master cheif is definitly on the good side. It's like this 1. God makes Religion. 2. God makes guide to the living (Bible). 3. Mass part of the world accepts Religion. 4. Most of the mass misunderstands Religion, by lack of understanding Guide. 5. Mass of people who don't understand the right way are screwing everything up and want to kill everybody....not quite literally. (i'm not trying to target muslim extremist, because christrians will do it also). 6. Guys who understand it are outnumbered. The trust is in God to set things right. 7. God works miracals that are not statistically logical to man. To explain # 7 in halo style. - All the crap Master cheif did is crazy and he should have died a million deaths. The covenant was to strong for the human race. Still we pulled through because good always wins...God always wins. Clutch performance.
[Edited on 05.06.2008 6:02 AM PDT]

 • The key to creating good fiction is basing it on a solid mythology. By tying in mythology from a culture we are part of, it makes the lure and interest that much higher. Look at Star Wars. Look at The Matrix. They all have mythologies that are based, in part, on our own myths. The writers at Halo did the best job of them all in my opinion. They tied in common mythological concepts such as good vs. evil, the melding and often countering forces of science and religion, and of course the Hero myth. A man who accomplishes great things from love of friends, family and country (in this case planet(s).) This mtyhology dates all the way back to ancient Greece. The Flood and the Ark by the way, relate strongly to the Great Flood of antiquity, found not only in the Bible, but also in ancient Babylonian religions. God punishes mankind for their sins with a worldwide Flood (remember Gravemind:"I am a testament to all your sins.") but gives one man a heads up, who builds an Ark (big boat) to save all the species on the world, in order to rebuild the world. Its a cleansing with water, found in many religions, including Christianity with regard to baptism on a personal level. Is Bungie trying to make you Christian? Of course not. Is a large part of its mythology based on the Bible and other real world myths? Of course. Read Joseph Cambell if you would like to learn more about myths. Bungie's writers sure did!

 • If the covenent is polytheistic then maybe Rome? Covenent could be related to rome because Rome was the right time. So then to make sense of it the Jews would be humans/UNSC.

 •
Posted by: DaveElway Incorrect. Your closed eyes are keeping you from seeing. All scientific fact started with hypothesis and theory. Hypothesis and Theory is what? That's right, belief without proof. Like, The Big Bang Theory. I'm sure you believe in that eventhough there is no empiricle evidence. But you have faith that the theory is true. A true scientist knows there is much more evidence in the universe than empiricle. Darwin himself didn't have any empiricle evidence. He never once tested DNA. Remember, even science starts with faith. Without faith, there isn't even any reason to research.
Again you show your stupidity. Theory is based on lots of proof but is not law due to it not being proven. (Like the THEORY OF GRAVITY.) Hypothesis is the reasoning behind the results after data is collected. There is empirical evidence in the fact of the expansion of the universe. Look at the rate of expansion and go backwards in time. It all comes down to one point. The only way to make it law is to have nothing different, but we can't very well prove the future can we. Darwin's theory was a hypothesis and later, after seeing much more supporting data, it became a theory.

 • You see, some scientists, who only believe is empirical evidence wouldn't believe in God unless he came up and slapped them in the face. That is just as close minded as the Christian who believes the Earth was litterally created in 7 days. Science and Faith are far more related that either extreme side wants to admit. There IS a happy medium. And that happy medium is where discovery is made!

Right? Edit: messed up quote
It is all representation, I am just stating what I believe each one represents, I know I am wrong, but it is just how I always saw it.

 • We are not arguing. We are having a debate. Debate and discussion is paramount to discovery.

 • If you are referencing that the "words" come from the bible... then I think you could probably make a case for their use (referential only) in terms of the "mythic quality" they lead to some names and events present in the Halo Trilogy. If you really want to read about the story arc and its pervasive mythos, may i suggest: Ascendant Justice Blog

This is what we like to call free thinking. It is great when people think logicaly. But I do agree threads like this are just stupid. I enjoy argueing about religion but when it is on the internet it is just this common stupidity. Too much ignorace and everyone has a mindset.
