What are some of the perks experts look for in their hc? I am just starting to use them since I got red hand IX. I can't decide if I should go with high cal rounds or explosive.

luck in the chamber and final round.
-
I have fatebringer and let me tell you that explosive rounds are the tits.
-
2 RepliesHand-cannons are useless if they don't have more than 9 rounds imo. I use Fatebringer pretty much over any other HC and it has the best perks you can ask for. Explosive rounds, 12 bullets standard AND Volatile Payload. The Devil You Know is also a good choice.
-
I'd say fatebringer, nothing else. It has explosive precision kills and out law, plus extra ammo or explosive rounds
-
2 RepliesEdited by Dvatt: 12/15/2014 1:25:20 PMYou want the "outlaw" perk everything else is preference.

For me it's something to decrease the recoil.

2 RepliesAll about that thorn :)

1 ReplyYou need a perk called HAWKMOON.

If you run hunter gold gun use the presision kill boosters and a hc with at least 9 or more rounds (higher ammo carry limit) and dont worry bout stability or reload speed( due to the hunter perks) and go with send it. Gloves for reload speed and any ammo carry buffs. If your doing hc do a build and wreck everything get thorn or fate bringer

I use The Last Word v2.0 currently. It has good base impact so I use stability upgrades. Impact, stability and v high rate of fire drops large enemies with ease. I do wish it reloaded quicker though. That said I went back to my maxed Atheon's Epilogue for the DLC raid as 8 shots per clip for TLW just wasn't good enough for crowd control. So it depends what you are using it for I guess.

For bosses the h cal rounds will stagger big baddies. For swarms the explosives rounds. They save tones of ammo and kill minions with a quickness.

Outlaw is super usefull in pvp but still really good in pve

I had the perk that speeds up reload after a kill, and seeing as I reload after every kill, it was amazing. The exploding perk on the fatebringer looks awesome in nightfalls and im loving that perk on other guns and using it how it shud be used, took me a while to work out that it actually blew up other stuff too, lol. I love handcannons and am currently re-upgrading my thorn. The 2 I badly want, Hawkmoon and fatebringwer have eluded me, and the Devil You Dont is simply AWFUL. It has everything you DONT want in a gun, slow reload, low impact, tiny clip size, slow ads, and the perks are bad too, occasionaly adding extra ammo, its very meh, ive upgraded up but will delete it as soon as I get a decent replacement.

Go explosive as I'm pretty sure high caliber rounds slow down weapon handling, which you don't want with a hand cannon. My TDYK, has explosive rounds and crowd control which is great in a tight spot. I have since moved to thorn 2.0 which is just BEAST, but still pull out TDYK when I want to free up an exotic slot.

Hawkmoon is the best for med and long range. Last word is great for close range low medium. Depends on your play style. I like hawkmoon much more because I play a medium range game and its usable in short range, although not particularly great. Thorn is a good medium range hand cannon to use if you have neither of those. I personally don't recommend legendary hand cannons.
Crowd Control, Zen movement, Outlaw, and Firefly
Luck in the chamber Send it Perfect balance Are also great for hand cannons

Send it and explosive rounds

Explosive rounds are where it's at.

Critical kill Reload, firefly, and extra damage by getting critical hit kills

Reload perks. And if it doesn't have 9+ rounds in the mag, field scout. Everything else basically comes down to personal preference.

Best HC: Hawkmoon Thorn Fatebringer The Last Word Alt: Lord High Fixer The Devil You Know The Devil You Don't (Just about any faction Legendary HC with the Right Perks can be good I know I have a Venation III with a good perk selection)
-
4 RepliesSometime Field Scout only adds 1 round to the mag size. As long as you have 10 rounds that should be enough. I like explosive rounds whenever they are offered. Fatebringer is the best. Explosive rounds plus exploding enemies.
-
Anything with range or stability perks.

Edited by Syncopation: 12/15/2014 6:05:24 AMReload speed perks, range perks and added damage perks are all what you're looking for. My two favorite legendary HC's- I got a second Lord High for ranking crucible and it has outlaw (super fast reload after precision kills) and grenadier (kills reduce grenade cool down). Loving it. I have max discipline as well so my grenade comes back up insanely quick. I rerolled Timurs Lash with crowd control, field scout (ammo) and zen moment which is also pretty awesome. Still haven't had the luck to get Fatebringer yet though :/
