It's not his job to advise people on what to buy. It's completly random and beyond nerdy. You asserted that it wasn't random given the circumstance. In this circumstance it wasn't warranted.

There is no cause for warranted or not warranted in this situation. It's not diplomacy, it's people who like video games talking about video games. There is some special requirement to discuss that with anyone, regardless as to how random it may be

These people were casual, they probably didn't even know what he was t along about. Most people play video games, candy crush is played by predominantly women, that doesn't set the stage for you to talk in detail to everyone about video games. I mean if you saw a girl playing candy crush on the subway would you start talking to them about pay walls. This kids a nerd, and if im a nerd for typing here so are you. But at least I know how to keep my nerdiness out of more normal social settings.
