Prion-based Necrotic Locomotive Virus (PNLV) A prion virus, like Mad Cow Disease, is made of of protein-based viruses that "hijack" cells. Instead of using them to make more viruses, prions will consume the DNA of the cell and replace it, effectively taking over the cell's duties in the host organism. My theoretical variant would infect the brain, necrotizing the frontal lobe almost completely. This would cause a complete shutdown of intelligent thought, violent seizures, and reduce the victim's movement to a shambling walk. [spoiler]Sound familiar?[/spoiler] The breakdown of the frontal lobe would also induce a state of violent reaction to those uninfected, in a similar manner to Mad Cow in bovines. The only way to target the disease would be before it reached the brain, and any violent victims would only be stopped with blows (preferably non-lethal) to the head.
