Ok so let's have a talk about damage values, people are dreaming out because their max 331 (insert weapon here) isn't doing as much damage as their max 300 (insert old raid weapon) some people aren't understanding that weapons do on hit damage based on their individual impact stat, therefore each shot from a mida multi tool (fairly low impact) will never do as much as a another scout rifle even when they are at the same damage value, secondly the damage value only applies in the case of you attacking enemies above the lvl of yourself and your weapon, if you knock the last number off the weapon damage you get the level of enemy your gun does full damage too, so a 274 damage weapon does full damage to lvl 27 enemies and reduced damage to anything above that, a 300 does max damage to lvl 30 enemies, a 331 does max against 33 enemies. BUT this does not increase its damage against lower level enemies, that's why we can't one shot captains on earth patrol even though we are lvl 30s, so as long as your weapon damage reaches the highest lvl enemy you are fighting the only difference between a 331 weapon and a 170 blue is the impact rating of the gun, well that and the perks haha

3 RepliesJust adding that impact and other weapon stats aren't comparable across weapon types. Sniper rifles are a prime example. They mostly have low impact in comparison to other weapons, but do more dmg. Each weapon type has a base dmg and then the impact creates differences among that weapon type.

1 Reply"Why does no one understand this?" How the hell do you know this?! Regardless, good info. Thanks for it.

2 RepliesEdited by The Inturned: 12/23/2014 6:03:49 AMJust did the 28 weekly with my 29 titan. I leveled my Thorn's damage up twice. Each time Thorn did more damage when upgraded. I was paying special attention to this because I was comparing the damage between a new Thorn and a 300 max Timur's Lash. The statement that 300 weapons do the same damage as 331 weapons to lower enemies is incorrect. I was doing more damage with each level up.

8 RepliesSo then why does my 331 mida multi tool hit harder than my 300 voc against level 30s, and I believe even lvl 26 mobs?
-
You're wrong, posting this from the other thread with your link in it. Hey, that explanation of attack you posted is beyond wrong. Att/15=Level Damage caps out A 300 Att weapon will do the same amount of damage to a level 20 as it will a level 32. A 331 Att weapon will do the same amount of damage to a level 22 as it will a level 32. The level at which your gun caps out is important because every extra enemy level your guns caps out at gives an additional 7% damage boost. Bump for clarity please, I've seen people misunderstanding the Attack Value of a weapon for months now.

2 RepliesWith rocket launchers, is it the blast radius that does damage like impact?
-
So I shouldn't have been using a gun with 99 attack against level 18 enemies... Oops...
-
So damage a multiplier?
-
2 RepliesLmao, OP makes thread trying to educate people on gun damage, but doesn't even understand gun damage.
-
So explain why my ice breaker went from 2590 to 2940 roughly from 1.0 Max to 2.0 max on any major or ultra enemy.
-
Get it nerfed
-
So from what I am reading this is not correct I had full upgraded thorn pre-2.0 but still after buff and it crit for around 1500 on lvl 8 hive thrall got the 2.0 version from xur power leveled it to max same perk setup I always run and I get around 1700 crits plz explain and the same goes for the icebreaker as well

1 ReplySo until the hard raid no point in maxing exotics and spending shards then ? Or have I missed the point ?
-
16 RepliesThis is not 100% correct. A 331 atk weapon does more damage to lvl 26 mobs than a 300 atk (same weapon). For example, my thorn HS 26 enemies for 1700. That's much more than the 300 atk version.

7 RepliesSo what happens if you are a level 29, fighting a 30 in a raid or nightfall, with a 331 weapon?
-
4 RepliesThis all seems accurate, but I thought you got a small bonus for being higher lvl than enemy. Assuming your weapon is also above that enemy.
-
2 RepliesCorrect about impact levels, completely wrong about damage numbers. A higher damage weapon does more damage across the board, assuming same impact. I've tested this theory and its a myth.
-
1 ReplyA 274 weapon has reduced damage to an enemy higher than lvl 27?
-
6 RepliesOk, so I get what you are saying and will test this today. But, I have observed that weapons with high impact have a low fire rate or smaller magazine. The weapons with low impact have high rate of fire and larger magazines. I personally, don't believe that impact = damage. I think you have to calculate magazine size+ fire rate+ impact. Impact primarily determines whether or not you stagger an enemy. Basically holding out in place allowing you to put what few bullets you have where they need to be. I'm going to use bad juju and try with and without the impact improving perk. I'll let you know what I find.
-
34 RepliesImpact = chance to stun/stagger. Not damage value.
-
2 RepliesThis can't be right. My upgraded Icebreaker does more damage out of the box to level 26 enemies (ROC strikes) than my maxed out Icebreaker does. It also did more damage as I upgraded it. If what you're saying is correct then a 300 damage Icebreaker should do the same amount of damage as a 331 damage Icebreaker to a level 26 enemy. Which it does not. I do know impact effects damage. At 300 the gun with higher impact hits harder. But at 331 vs 300, the 300 gun would need more impact to match the damage.

The attack of a weapon might not mean extra damage to low level mobs, but you cannot argue that there is an effective damage increase. So, there must be other factors involved.

1 ReplyI wish everyone was this smart. I had this figured out months ago but everyone treats me like I'm a moron for thinking I'm right.

2 RepliesI can one-shot captains and minotaurs on patrol with my Plan-C.
