I am not really sure what it is advertised as. I believe they are pushing it as an MMO. ( BUT, Bungie did a very ambitious thing. The whole concept of the game is phenomenal)
It does have MMO elements. But just talking with random people....some are unsure. I think it is funny how conversations go.
When people say Destiny is too much of a grind. It is usually replied as " Well, that is just how MMOs are" or " Well have you played Wow?" Then a trail off conversation happens about MMOs.
When people say Destiny has a lack of content, it is replied as "Well, that is what to expect in shooters nowadays."
Then a trail off conversation starts about how Battlefield has never had a good story and FPS are not known for stories, just for their multiplayer.
So my friends.
I am also aware the trolls have awakened in full force to let ME KNOW just what kind of game destiny is. But, for the mature audience, I am curious to see what you feel Destiny falls in, genre wise. Thank you for reading.

Edited by lbox87: 12/11/2014 6:58:47 PMPeople tend to coin the term MMO for this game simply because it has elements present in many modern MMORPG's (reputation, grinding, farming, tiered gear, loot system, dailies) but tend to forget that those are just general gameplay mechanics that can apply to any game genre. This is simply a Co-op FPS RPG, it is not a Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game because it lacks the things that define an MMO. The main concept for an MMO is that it has a shared persistent world for a large amount of players. Everywhere you go in Destiny is a Matchmade world with a small player cap, even the Tower, therefor it is not an MMO.

Fps (first person shooter) that's it.

I believe Bungie called it an "open world shooter". They wanted it to have MMO/RPG/FPS elements, but they didn't want to classify it as one, or any combination of the three. I'd say it's most closely related to an RPG.

Shitty MMOFPS

2 RepliesIt's an MMO that happens to have FPS elements. You can combine it however you want but it has way more MMO qualities to it. Rng, grinding, time investment, etc etc. Time investment is the biggest case for MMO moniker for Destiny. You can spend 20 hours in Destiny and maybe have made lvl 23 or 24 but other than pvp you would have run out of game to play. It's only in the level grind that leads into a major time investment in the game that you get anywhere close to geared up for raiding (end game content, another MMO term). That's my 2 cents. It's and MMO threw and threw.

The genre of "awesome."

4 RepliesWhen I talk to my friends that don't have it, I call it a FPSMMORPG. Because it kinda is.

Edited by zorroporro: 12/11/2014 5:11:47 AMI call it an FPS with really light MMO qualities. But yeah, it's a shooter for me. If the game had a real solid core, it would be easier to categorize it. When people are arguing on forums, Destiny is either a MMO or a FPS, whichever genre supports their points better. you were right about that.

Treadmill simulator.

Edited by wubitup: 12/11/2014 5:10:42 AMMMO/FPS/RPG is what I see it as.

How about just MO instead of MMO Yea?

Edited by Artesians: 12/11/2014 5:08:34 AMI consider it a FPS-MMORPG. It has all the elements, regardless of what Bungie wants to call it.
