Tl;dr- The only challenging thing about this raid is the damage penalty, the mechanics are easy. Pretty lazy game design IMO
To be honest it seems to me like they couldn't figure out how to make the raid challenging so instead they just raised the enemy cap to level 32.
The first phase was ridiculously simple, follow some lights for 5 minutes you get some free raid gear? AND there's an exotic chest right next to where you land?? I was like... Seriously? In VOG you can't get any raid gear until you beat the Oracles which is a challenge to reach in the first place.
My team of randoms made it to Crota in no time, and were able to figure out and execute the method successfully to damage Crota, the only thing holding us back was was the inability to do enough damage before enragement because of being 2 levels below the enemies.
Imagine a team of level 28s attempting to beat vault of glass on hard mode, even with all of our strategies and experience I feel that would be harder to beat than a team of 30s on Crota. If you had a team of all level 32s and therefore were on par with your enemies, I feel this raid would be a cake walk.
I guess I was just expecting the raid to challenge us in different ways other than fighting higher level mobs, seems like a lazy way of increasing difficultly. I know that VOG normal did the same at the end but why do you think hard mode Crotas end is going to be level 33? It's because Bungie knows if they made it level 32 it would be too easy and therefore decided to handicap us. Lazy.

3 RepliesI haven't attempted it yet because I want to focus getting my chars to 31 but I skimmed through 7 hours of videos today. It does seem easy, and the things that make it hard are just mobs of over powered enemies. With that said, its a completely different raid and it looks awesome. The vog was all about killing the whole team to where this raid is about sending mobs of enemies with stupid easy to solve puzzles. To me its still a raid that I will master and love but I can see where it just looks like laziness. I'm gonna get at least that first chest though this week haha

10 RepliesEdited by errdayimshuffln: 12/10/2014 6:23:15 AMThe Vault of Glass isn't hard. Its just glitchy. Not only that, but Crotas end is a lot more complicated to execute. Yes, its not hard to figure out, despite the fact that almost everyone brushed aside the obvious solution to the gate keeper part at first. I liked the running in the dark, avoiding holes, some of which you literally can't see, better than the gorgon maze. I would have really preferred for this challenge to escalate as you go through it somehow though. What I don't like is how most stages involve building bridges. It feels a little rehashed. Call this the raid of bridges and swords. Speaking of rehashed....no new monsters...c'mon bungie! Gives us some huge octopus-alien monster or something... All in all, it is a step up from Vault of Glass. As far as missions go. They should have given us 7 missions instead of 3. I finished everything except for raid and weekly in this 20 dollar game in 2 hours!

1 ReplyHard in this game is artificial. Glitches and gear based mechincs are shit 💩.

1 ReplyI'm on ps3 and I need a team to get past the first part.. I want gear and the chest.. My previous team couldn't pass it..

My group didn't get any chests. We did the entire thing blind. The thrall maze was fun, IMO. It was the perfect difficulty for just starting the raid (anymore and I'd be frustrated). We breezed though the bridge. I'm not sure why people have trouble with that part. The song part was bad, only because it was given artificial difficulty. The endless yellow bar knights made us wipe a few times until we figured out how to avoid them. The Shrieker/Wizard combo to unlock the doors could have been more unique. We got to crota and couldn't beat him. He was at half health once but we never got closer. The level cap makes it extremely difficult to DPS him heavily before enrage. If they didn't bloat the boss I'd say the actual fight mechanics (the sword and oversoul) is enjoyable...but it can be super boring and lazy since the sword guy is given way too much responsibility. Over all, the raid was fun but shorter than expected (I'm assuming crota is the last part). The scenery was certainly gorgeous. Unfortunately the raid felt much much more linear :/

You realise thats normal...
-
2 RepliesVog wasn't that hard on normal anyway. I beat it with a group of randoms at 27 without a mic. We had no wipes outside of gorgons labyrinth
-
Agree. Especially first two parts. Wham can get you full raid gear quick
-
5 RepliesI heard that hardmode will have have much more difficult crota mechanics.
-
VoG became a cake walk once people made it to 30. Crota's End will be no different... on normal mode. I'm terrified of hard mode.
-
1 ReplyYeah with the VoG they really stressed how hard it was and how team oriented before it actually came out but with the dlc they focused more on the new weapons and armor
-
4 RepliesDoes this mean on the hard raid we'll be fighting level 35 enemies at level 32? That seems awful
-
1 Replydefinitely a more fun rain than VOG imo.. (: LOVE gatekeeper phase
-
4 RepliesIve only played the very first part ( the run in the dark) and I was instantly taken back to crash bandicoot where only a firefly would light your path. Needless to say i loved it and found iy hilarious, especially when someones name suddenly dropped and you just hear them say "ohh crap"
-
2 RepliesHow many times can I get the first chest is it once per week?
-
2 RepliesWe got crota down three times with all 30's, but when we had to kill the ogres to get the swordbearer it took way too long. He ended up enraging and that's a wipe.
-
Agreed. That was my thoughts of the new raid.
-
1 ReplySo basically it'll be challenging for a few days. Xur will come, everyone and his mother will be 31 with a shiny new exotic, and the raid will become quite manageable for full teams of 31s. Props to those teams that manage it before Xursday :)
-
4 RepliesU can get raid gear from oracles but thanks
-
5 RepliesFrom what I saw of the live streams it did seem like the "make it hard by throwing mob after mob after mob at them the whole time, plus add in a lot of higher level high health tanks being thrown at them as well.
-
13 RepliesWait you actually killed crota with full 30's? Tell Me Strattt! Lol
-
4 RepliesYou get gear from oracles in VoG I think. Equally easy once you know what to do. Just done first run up to gatekeepers and have enjoyed it.
-
6 RepliesSo what your saying is to effectively cause damage to him u have to have a team of 3 30s and 3 31s? Cuz that worked with the right team and load outs on VOG hard
-
1 ReplyI do agree that its a slight lack of actually challengeing mechanics. However they did the same in vog with aetheon being 28
-
3 RepliesThat first part tho! Hella fun! Run! Keep going! Turn around and shoot!!
