Some Myth-Halo-Marathon Connections.

I had quite a bit of spare time just now, so I decided to look through the Myth story page to see what I could dig up, and the results were pretty cool. I think the Master Chief is similar to a Heron Guard from way back in the Myth days. The end of Myth II is my main reason for thinking so, as well as the unformatted KYT terminal, but something in Halo 2 really caught my eye. In Coagulation, there are banners of an Eagle on the blue base, and a snake on the red. The number 12 is under the Eagle, and 4 under the snake. Two of the common names for the Heron Guard are "Twelve Eagle Falling Sun," and "Four Serpent Seeking Shadow." While this may be nothing, I'll definitely be looking for more Myth connections in Halo 2. (not to mention Marathon) The strongest of Marathon Myth links is this terminal: -> ....n 15 ~~~~~~Be~rn border of the Roman Empire to the Danube River. During a skirmish with barbarians in Raetiain the mountains near the borof modern France and Switzerland), 117 men under Gaius Licinius MarcW#&I~?f/f/xxfxfff`~~~ THM@#%!@# 233nce of weird and frightening monsters under his control, many successful raidsecty the fall of the Roman Empire and remained unmolested until the ninth un~~~ written ls into the lex vita. Both, however, carried out reforms before their deaths which slowly integrated their people secretly into world society, which are now scattered all over the globe- to meet only once every seven years in southeast France~FFFffxfffffF?F?FF?Ff must be chosen. The last line is a dead giveaway to a Heron Guard connection. Since I can draw a thousand conclusions from my crack pot ideas, I'll hang it up here. Thoughts? Other Conclusions?

 • Nice x873514. I doubt it's a mistake because someone found UESC printed on a turret before Halo ever came out. A lot of other Halo 2 connections have been mentioned before, some good ones by smee. My favorite one was when sarge says "You think your big time? You're gonna DIE big time!" A great observation was the similarites between the juggies and those big flying things with the energy shield that looks a little like a screwed up Marathon symbol.

 • One interesting connection I found in the awards ceremony. It's not a massive meaningful connection, but it's worth a chuckle if it's a mess-up. I don't remember if it was Master Chief or Miranda Keyes that was given the award when they said it, but the Colonel (or Admiral, I'm not sure) that gave them the awards said, "On behalf of the United Earth Space Command." Accident? [Edited on 12/8/2004 1:11:38 PM]

 • The best Halo 2/Marathon connection I can think of is Gravemind. Gravemind's serpent-like qualities and massive size remind me of Jormungand or Leviathan. That, along with the fact that we first meet him under water and the Chief's Mjolnir armor are even more evidence to support the symbolism between Gravemind and Jormungand. The thing about Jormungand is that he will be destroyed by Thor with his hammer Mjolnir on the day of Ragnarok. (basically the end of the cosmos) Gravemind says "This is not your grave, but you are welcome in it." If "Jormungand" was killed once before, then that means the universe was destroyed and reborn. Now who would go and do a thing like that. . .

 • There are, in fact, more connections between halo and marathon. First, if you look in the back of the original halo logo, the marathon logo is embedded between the A and the L (you may find this logo in the Halo Xbox wallpaper section under "granite"). Also, the Flood are similar to the fungal zombies cut from marathon. Most of the enemies are also similar. For example, the Hunters in both games, the P'for Elite who carries the flame-thrower-thing, and others.

Two of the common names for the Heron Guard are "Twelve Eagle Falling Sun," and "Four Serpent Seeking Shadow."
The numbers 4 and 12 are not in any way significant to the Heron Guard, as far as I can tell. The names of the Heron Guards are, as with the Aztecs and Mayans, their date of birth. The words Serpent Seeking Shadow, Motion Jewelled Skull, etc, obviously have some significance in the Cath Bruig's calendar. If you look for the entry in the Encyclopædia section of the Myth.bungie.org website, you will find that there are many other numbers used in their naming system. As for that Marathon terminal you quote, I think that you're on to something. It's interesting to note that if you're drunk, and you squint a bit, the Myth map looks just a bit like France on an angle. - Reiginko
