Im seeing a lot of confusion with the new DLC and i just thought id clear up some of the most common questions.
1st thing is that you can buy new armor to reach a maximum light lvl of 31 from any of the tower factions, crucible handler, and vanguard vendors.
SOME of these new pieces of gear in the tower require a COMMENDATION, which are achieved by reaching your next rank in crucible or vanguard rep. Ranking a faction up with result in a crucible commendation.
ONLY chests and helmets (weapons as well) will require commendations.
Take note that any gear purchased in the tower will not allow you reach the new light lvl cap of 32. (Same deal as before the dlc) This level can only be achieved by getting a full raid set from the dark below OR 3 pieces of new raid gear and an exotic that has been reset through xur to match the increased light lvl.
One last thing to anyone who complains about these vendors selling gear better than the vault of glass gear... Its the exact same situation as before the dlc, tower gear before dlc got you to 29 but if you wanted to be a 30 you had to grind the raid. The same exact situation is happing now but with lvl 31 and 32 so your complaints are invalid.
Have fun ranking up out there ya'll!! :)
Ps. If you could drop a like and comment to get the word out that would be appreciated

VoG gear is not useless aka keeping raid boots on my hunter can still get me to 31 via 2 Tower gear upgrade pieces and 1 exotic upgrade when xur comes around or finding 1 piece of new exotic gear. So no they arent completely useless. side note: Faction level ups produce crucible commendation and commendations can be moved from character to character, upgrading to tower gear will take more time to get than you think, faction/vanguard/crucible crap takes a while to level up and get a commendation.

1 ReplyEdited by CrazyLincoln: 12/9/2014 10:53:50 PMOne would assume that doing the vault of glass would prepare us from the next raid. "Nah, common vanguard gear is better Lawl" -Bungie. Next raid gear will be the exact same thing.

I know i talked some crap about the whole thing but after playing all day I really feel like i am not sure a better way to do it and the only thing im still mad about is the commendations but its ok. i also noticed on top of being able to get to 31 off tower gear it seems possible to get to 28 it seems off rare gear and an extoic form xur.i found several rare pieces last night with light at 23

2+2=4 I am less mad now
-
I think im less mad now thanks

1 ReplyThe armor ladder doesn't bug me half as much as all my obsolete legendary weapons. The were obsolete before I really got the chance to use some of them. There is only 1or 2 nice vendor weapons. so I will spend the next 3 months waiting for a good assault rifle to drop for it to be obsolete before I get the chance to upgrade it. Gonna give 2weeks for the changes to settle in, thinking its time to pull shadow of mordor or dragonage off the shelf.

Edited by bagoftrix: 12/9/2014 9:18:29 PMI don't understand the whiners about iron banner or tower gear. At all. It's not a competitive game, we're all guardians playing with eachother (pause) and just having fun getting cool gear and weapons... Why would you care about how and what somebody else is getting? Enjoy your gaming experience, if you let it be spoiled or even worse spoil other people's over petty shit... Well... You know...

33 Repliesi should be owed plenty of commendations cos im rank friggin 10 vanguard -_-

Exactly. 30 is the new 20. By the time a new player hits twenty, they can purchase gear that will get them to 30/31 and only have to grind for the gear they purchased once. The rest of us have been grinding for the past three months to get to 29/30. This is why people are upset. All of the time and effort that many have put into the game to achieve these levels, and now someone can just purchase the high levels. It feels like wasted time and like noobs won't have to earn their rank. Yes, I had a lot of fun getting to where I am, and I would do it again, but it's a slap in the face from Bungie. I realize that we can purchase the gear, then upgrade it too, but it feels wrong to do so after working this hard to get what I have. It's not a real big deal, but it is irritating. I'll play with anyone/any level, it doesn't matter to me. People should have to earn their levels though and not be able to purchase them entirely.

3 RepliesAnyone here just getting the new tower gear just because it looks rad? I'm really digging the new I/D Warlock vanguard stuff. Really reminds you of a ratty old wizard, or a tuskan raider with the helmet. Added bonus of finally getting above level 29 thanks to RNG constantly screwing me over.

3 RepliesWon't Iron Banner have light level 32, like the pieces you can get now to hit 30?
-
4 RepliesI don't think the majority of people understand what "Progression" means. Seriously people! Nothing is going to get handed to you. This is life! Yes you all (for the most part) busted ass to get to 30 and you will have to bust ass some more to get to 32. Then they will release the next DLC and you will have to bust ass to get to 34-36. And then they will release other content, Destiny 2 and you will have to bust ass some more. AS IS LIFE! IT"S INSANITY AT IT"S BEST!! When you start a new job after working at one that you were a supervisor at for 6 years , guess what? Bottom of the barrel again. My 2 pence!

So does this mean that level 20's (more like 25's) will be able to reach level 31 within hours of gameplay? After I just hit level 30 from several VoG's, nightfalls, and iron banner rank-ups? my little sister is going to be level 31 before me now...

2 RepliesOP didn't address the two biggest problems. Now because of tower gear VOG gear is worthless which seems stupid because it makes doing the VOG pointless. Also, why not just change the damage of all exotics like they did with the Vex Mytho? Instead they decided the game needs more grind and made all the leveling up you did before today pointless.

Thank you for an informative post, opposite to all the tears out there.

7 RepliesCommendation = another layer of grinding. Now we have grind mechanic, on top of grind mechanic, on top of grind mechanic. Fun.

My biggest complaint is the equipment nullification mindset that pretty much all MMO's seem to fall into. Never understood it, never liked it and hey for all you genius game designers out there here is an easy solution that would probably result in more players being happier. Are you ready? OK now this idea took me all of about seven seconds to come up with so I hope you can grasp the concept: Grandfather in the gear: Legendary is legendary and exotic is exotic, no levels of legendary and exotic just stop the silliness. If you want to make it more difficult to obtain these items initially fine, but once they have been obtained, if you decide to upgrade equipment; then the legendary and exotic gear already obtained by players prior to your update/downloads etc. should just be granted the new bonuses. If you think about it anytime a game does something like this the people who benefit the most are those who are just now getting to the point of obtaining legendary and exotics, they don't have to go through the crap of paying (Again) for legendary or exotic gear and then going through the upgrade process (Again). Those who have grinded it out through levels for months and months instead of getting a reward get a slap in the face and the new guys get moved to the front of the line lol.

Seems odd though, doesn't the next DLC come in February? wont I finish my grind to 32 to then all of a sudden be given armour for 33? Feels so wasteful. Should have had an upgrade path for the VoG gear which brings you to 31 and is overall better armor than the vendor gear. They continue to control the progression in such a shitbag way.

2 RepliesSo, vanguard has rendered Vog gear useless?
-
16 RepliesThe problem is that someone could start the game that and as soon as they hit 20 they could gear up to 31, where's we who have played since start had to grind through vault and iron banner
-
I wasn't aware people were getting confused over this....smh
-
16 RepliesPeople who worked hard leveling 3 characters to 30 do have a reason to b1tch, just because you have a sh1t ton of apologists on your side who were too lazy to raid enough doesn't make you right.
-
I don't think most people understand how mmos general ly work. Good explanation. Sadly I think it will fall on very deaf ears for the most part.
-
13 RepliesI think what upsets most players is not that the gear is being sold in the shop. Its the fact that you busted your butt for weeks and to 28+ and got the best weapons and now you nothing you did will help you get to 31+ any faster than the newcomer because you essentially have to start all back over with new gear. I was not a raider and i feel like the raiders have the biggest complaint cause you REALLY busted tail to get to 30 and spent all that time upgrading stuff and now you have to do the exact same thing everyone else is doing cause all your raid gear is crap now and bested by store bought. This would not be as bad if there was not another expansion coming thats prolly going to do the same thing and we all are going to start over again. This time to get to 34! Probably have to redo out guns too. I am having fun with something new though. I just feel like there should have been SOME benefit for all the prior work like getting the commendations owed to us to get us a head start.
-
6 RepliesWhat was the point in working so hard to get the IB gear, if it was gonna be worthless when the DLC came out a few days afterwards? Sometimes this game makes no sense.
-
2 RepliesThe problem is is that its the exact same situation. Nothing we did before the dlc really matters like at all and its sad. I feel like a level 26 again. If this is what's going to happen there is no reason to do the raid more than a couple times because surely the house if wolves will have 1 upd vender gear over the Crotas end gear. Not only that but most people were going to continue doing VoG but now majority agree the only reason to do it is for the vmc. I'm not just upset about feeling like my time and effort has been wasted. It also just doesn't seem logical for the future. To say this is a logical next step is foolish having the vendors sell 30 light gear for marks and commendations always would have been perfect in my eyes. It's a catch up mechanic. Right now you can behind in gear and then immediately jump ahead. Giving out better gear than raid gear is just the dumbest thing I have seen in this game. Like look at the freaking queens missions. You had to work for gear you probably didn't want now they are giving away gear you earn marks and rank passively you don't even have to go out of your way at all and you get a ridiculous reward for it.
