Saving a purple engram in the inventory till after the expansion hits?
Not me, but a buddy in my fireteam got a purple engram and we got to thinking, does the Cryptarch determine what the engram is upon identifying.... or it is determined when the thing is originally dropped.
I'm inclined to believe it's the former....
Which got us wondering....
Do you guys think he could possibly turn it in after he installs the expansion and it could be one of the new legendaries????
(Its a special weapon engram btw)

I got my vanguard REALLY close to leveling up.... so that way I can get a commendation asap.....
You think it'd be better to get and save the package for the dlc instead?

I picked up one legendary engram today (class item :( ), so I'm gonna save it. I have the cryptarch ready to be levelled with on blue engram, and I have about another 40 blues waiting to be turned in. I have my fingers crossed that I can get the cryptarch levelled twice and have two chances at getting more legendaries for him. I also need 6xp to get vanguard levelled, so hopefully another legendary from that and a commendation. Will see what happens tomorrow.

4 RepliesEither way, it makes sense to hold on to it. If it's already predetermined then you don't lose anything. If it isn't, then there's a chance at an upgraded exotic or better legendary.

1 ReplyItems are definitly not fixed! I used my L30 Titan to Grind strikes for Marks and engramms, transfered the engramms to my new made warlock and started decrypting them: as a L12 warlock I got stuff for L12 +/-2, as a L20 i got stuff for level18-20. so no prediction, seems to be a lottery at the Moment you decrypt them. That Said, i think it is a good idea to Save your engramms Another day

3 RepliesThink about the loot 2.0 Patch. They changed all of your legendary engrams to blue ones with the patch... So I am pretty sure you will get the new legendaries with old engrams (if you're lucky enough ;D)

I'm saving all my engrams from the last few days as well as bringing my factions to just before they level. I can't see a downside since none of those have been giving me anything useful in weeks.

All I ever get from legendary engram's is ascendant material anyways without exception. Makes not a damn difference to me.

2 RepliesIn my experience when dropped, I don't know about weapons but I saved 2 helmets 1 boot and 2 arm legendary engrams picked up with my hunter and one chest with my titan and gave them to my low lvl warlock. Decoded with warlock and chest turned into a titan chest and other gear was hunter legendary with one helmet turning into hunter exotic.

4 RepliesI'm guessing it will work like the Cryptarch patch did awhile back. Though I don't think they will nerf your legendary engrams to rares, I think they will still give older items that aren't the new stuff if they were saved up. I think this is the main reason they took the Exotic Engram away from Xur this past week, they knew people would be trying to buy a bunch and save them for Tuesday for a chance at new exotic gear.

5 RepliesIt is determined at cryptarch I know that for sure. Easily tested by putting a blue in the vault and transferring it. As far as the table of possible items? Who knows, it's worth a try at least. I have some vanguard/crucible packages still in my inbox in hopes of that theory.

One guy on the forum has been saving Exotic Engrams purchased from Xur for the same reason. Hopefully he'll post his results after the DLC drops.

I think it determines at cryptarch. I think that's why xur didn't sell an exotic engram the week before dlc...

1 ReplyIt's the former. For instance you could get a green engram at lvl 10, give it to Rahul at lvl 15 and it will be ~15
