Vanguard/Crucible Commendations seem like unnecessary roadblocks that are there to simply stop players from reaching level 30 too fast, and invest even more time in the game. I could understand if Gear and Weapons required EITHER a Commendation or certain amount of Marks, but no. It requires BOTH. It takes at least one and a half to two weeks for a casual to rank up, so that's maybe 1 piece of armor per week or 2. I don't know about you guys, but I despise this system.
Edit 1: Whoa, 800 replies. It seems like the community is split on this one. I'm still not all for the idea. As I said, if weapons/armor required marks OR a commendation, I'd be fine. But it requires both (from what I understand).

I like it

1 ReplyUnfortunately it is necessary. While I agree the casuals are getting Shafted, the Hardcore section is gobbling up content, raids, progression faster than Bungie can dish it out. They are trying to keep people that are already well over rank 3 from just buying the new stuff, making them have to trudge through ranks to acquire the mats to buy gear. It does suck but I understand where they are coming from.

Nope. Unless it proves to be a pain, I'm not sweating it. It doesn't seem to be anything worth having negative feelings over. (Unless you're just looking to have negative feelings)

A) there's no weekly limit B) if you planned ahead, you're ready to rank up with a few factions already. The disadvantage is: A) way easier to rank up in PvE than PvP B) more of a grind

Edited by cusman: 12/8/2014 6:04:16 PMI agree, Rep level alone (painfully earned) should be sufficient. I wouldn't care if earning those "Commendation" currency didn't require me to grind out the pathetically repetitive and lame daily bounties which are easily the worst part of Destiny and the one thing Bungie seems most intent on making players suffer more of.
-
4 RepliesGuys they implemented this so that people who aren't already thirty can't just pop over to the crucible or vanguard vendor as soon as the DLC comes out and buy level 30 armor. It's a way of slowing progression for people who haven't "earned" 30 armor pre-DLC. But it still allows them to progress to the new raids level without RNG in the VoG.

3 RepliesTo me it just screams desperation on Bungie's part to extend the life of the content. But ah well such is life.

1 ReplyI think it's stupid. Infact in a video I watched before launch, from people who worked on the game, said in the video, they didn't want people to have to grind for long periods of time to hit max level, that infact they wanted it to be achievable within days, so they could spend all their time building up weapons and gear loadouts in strikes and missions preparing for raid runs with their friends. The exotic shards. We got enough Ascendant shards from the raid to upgrade anything and everything, why the heck did you waste time creating a new currency?...smh

I am sitting at 2488/2500 for vanguard and similarly at about 1990/2000 with PvP. I am very annoyed that yet another currency type has been introduced. Sadly I can't play all the time so for some people a rep level is not a 1-2 day ordeal. It can be quite a bit longer.

4 RepliesYou do realise gave developers have put artificial barriers into games to prevent people achieving everything there is too fast, right? Those obstacles are money limits, weekly xp caps, commendation marks and random & limited amount in boss loot tables, just to name few. These things are in game because HC players would be done with content in a week and would cry their eyes out from boredom. Limiting the amount of resources player is handed is poor mans content and creates illusion of longetivity into game and masks the fact there is close to none variety and actual interesting things to do. Only reason you log into games for longer periods of time are caps. Sadly, this type of "content" is a norm these days and after spoon feeding customers these shells of games they are swallowed whole, mostly thanks to hype-engines and marketing departments. There haven't been new triple A games with real and different content that takes long time to do, in years. WoW is one of the games really these days that have that content, but then again they have had 10y time to add it. When it started, there was one raid and one high level dungeon. One good try was Kindoms of Amalur: Reconing, but that wasn't really MMO so I don't think it counts as viable comparison.

4 RepliesI don't see the problem. I'm semi casual, enjoy playing the game and feel no need to rush through everything. I'll get there when I get there.

I know right!

WHY CAN'T I JUST BE LEVEL 32 WITH MAXED WEAPONS ALREADY. DAMNIT BERNJEE THIS GAME IS TOO DARMN HERDDD. Why do these posts make it to the front of the damn forum page. *End disgruntled player post*

1 ReplyYou may as well get over it. Each tier will come with new currency. This is a standard practice.
-
1 ReplyThey introduced commendations for two reasons 1. So that you don't log in and buy the new items right away with your 200 marks. 2. Because now we buy more things with marks, like helium and relic iron and such. With this in mind they will lower the mark price on weapons and armor, but require commendations to compensate. This is so you have enough marks to buy materials and items. These are just my best guesses.

If they weren't there everyone would be level 30 within a day or two.

20 RepliesThe system is fine People need to learn how to make better use of their playtime. Nightfall 500 Rep/Radiant Light as well Weekly Heroic 499 Rep That's 999/2500 from two activities. Then you have Bounties, Vanguard Strikes, And Crucible. If you can't rank up at least once a week something is wrong. And Radiant Light is increasing all rep earned by like 25%.

10 RepliesYeah, actually I am. The current economic system put forth by this game is atrocious at best: - Glimmer is basically useless - Motes of Light don't seem to be for anything considering the only items I bought were exotic engrams...that seem like they are forever gone now... - Marks we useful for basically ascendant shards - Strange Coins had one purpose - Friday through Sunday if Xur was selling something decent An economic structure based around 4 different sets of currency? Really Bungie? I have an idea: how about we get rid of the cap on glimmer and make that actually useful? And how about the gunsmith actually sells guns that are useful? And how about we get rid of the marks, motes or strange coins that do nothing but layer a terrible idea over and over again? Nope - instead of allowing this economy to make sense, Bungie decides they need yet another tier to their already awful financial structure. Fantastic. I can not wait to see what new folds in this turd they add with the House of Wolves expansion...

3 RepliesI find it extremely unfair for new players or people who don't go as hard as me I personally have no prblem. Only because I've been playing since day 1 and have like lvl 10 vanguard on all 3 characters and 2 with lvl 5+ crucible It's unfair to new people. That's all I have to say
-
2 RepliesI agree but think about it from Bungie's point of view - do they want everyone to be able to get to 32 within a day or two? Of course they don't - some people will sure but they want to keep you in the game for as long as possible and I know that if I am able to get to 32 really quickly then I would lose a bit of interest.

Casual, mid-20 rank players were completely -blam!-ed over. Honestly the single dumbest change to the game they could have possibly made.

Edited by I3ridgeI3urner: 12/8/2014 11:17:18 PMFrom the link below; new vendor gets us to 31 if this is accurate... http://planetdestiny...rk-below-guide/ How Does Light Work? Game Version Rarity Max Light Rating pre-dark-below Pre-Expansion Uncommon 0 pre-dark-below Pre-Expansion Rare 15 pre-dark-below Pre-Expansion Legendary 27 pre-dark-below Pre-Expansion Raid Legendary 30 pre-dark-below Pre-Expansion Exotic 30 Expansion I Legendary 33 Expansion I Raid Legendary 36 Expansion I Exotic 36 As you can see, the Light rating for The Dark Below is 33-36. A piece Legendary Crota’s End armor will be equivalent to an expansion Exotic. Here’s some options to get to level 30, 31, and 32: Level 30 (120) – pre-dark-belowx3 Raid Legendary + pre-dark-below Exotic Level 31 (132) – dark-below x4 Legendary Level 32 (144) – dark-below Exotic + dark-below x3 Raid Legendary Simply add up the “max Light” values above until you reach 120, 132, or 144 to see what gear it would take to reach Light level 31, 32, or 33.

2 RepliesEdited by Level 2 on Easy: 12/8/2014 10:55:36 PMOK. I'm a casual and I'm getting the shaft on this deal. I've been stuck at 29 forever now thanks to RNG. I've been playing long enough that I'm probably better than most 30's though. I'm not saying that I wouldn't want to be a 30, but rather the 30's that got luckier than us 29's have no room to brag and say "get it legit". I've maxed out most every gun, all my armor and have a shit ton of play time on this account. I deserve a 30 IMO. I'm good in raids, alright in crucible, and try to help people out with their activites. On that note, I'm glad that there will be a way for me to get to a 30 now. Hopefully RNGSUS will bless me this time around. If not? Oh well.

Edited by lifelessx: 12/9/2014 12:57:05 AMQuestion in terms of this topic.. but what level do I need to attain in order to start earning vanguard currency.. besides the crucible.. I am currently on level 13
