Vanguard/Crucible Commendations seem like unnecessary roadblocks that are there to simply stop players from reaching level 30 too fast, and invest even more time in the game. I could understand if Gear and Weapons required EITHER a Commendation or certain amount of Marks, but no. It requires BOTH. It takes at least one and a half to two weeks for a casual to rank up, so that's maybe 1 piece of armor per week or 2. I don't know about you guys, but I despise this system.
Edit 1: Whoa, 800 replies. It seems like the community is split on this one. I'm still not all for the idea. As I said, if weapons/armor required marks OR a commendation, I'd be fine. But it requires both (from what I understand).

2 RepliesDoood. They put commendations in because faction gear is supposed to be more valuable. They wanna stop people from breaking down faction gear for shards
-
61 RepliesAnyone who buys gear to get themselves to level 30 is basically on Destiny welfare. Earn it the legit way from the Raid, or don't go to 30.
-
So your void fang vestments on your warlock wasn't purchased from xur
-
Isn't that they way they have being doing things the whole time? Trying to restrict our progress instead of providing content? The "Light" concept is a prime example of that, leaving our progress at the mercy of the RNG.
-
Only 2 pieces of the armor require a commendation. It is really quite easy to get 31.
-
I like it as I never managed to get raid gear, only raid weapons and Chatterwhite :) it's kind of putting your destiny in your own hands as appose to the RNG Raid Gear from the VoG.

Edited by OC Jeffrey: 12/10/2014 2:07:06 AMI don't really mind, just running all the bounties for that day and doing some strikes/patrols you can jump your vanguard rep up extremely fast, like 2-3 days if that, even less for that first upgrade seeing as how most people were probably already partially upgraded :P

I like it

25 RepliesIt's guaranteed armor with light level 30. For all the 29s bitching and moaning about RNG drops in the vault, this is effectively a hand out. Like it or not, bungie was in a weird position with this dlc and had to walk a fine line. On one hand, this dlc raid begins (ostensibly) at level 30, and so there needs to be a game mechanic which prevents players 29 and under from falling further behind in light level. Otherwise you will have a significant portion of the player pool running into the new content under leveled. They are going to deal less damage/die more often, which is only going to further the idiotic "30+ only" threads around here. Ultimately this going to alienate a large chunk of the destiny fan base, discourage them from playing the new content, and that means less potentially friendly/helpful/experienced players to chose from when looking for raid teams. Everyone loses. Conversely, bungie at least made an effort not to completely spit in the face of current 30s, by not allowing full level 30 gear for purchase day one. Some people got lucky in the vault and ended up with full raid gear day one, others had to grind 50+ raids to get there. Either way, it's a significant investment of players time. By tying the new vendor gear to commendation medals, bungie is preventing players who have never even attempted the vault from entering the dark below on equal footing without a little grinding of their own. It's not a perfect system. It never will be. But it gives the VoG veterans a headstart on the new content without excluding the casual or the chronically unlucky. It's an acceptable compromise.

5 RepliesI really think they should accept Chatterwhite in lieu of Vanguard Commendations.
-
What about Factions? Does this limit everything now? I think if they're making this system as annoying as it is then Factions should be accessible via Vangaurd Marks as well as the Crucible Marks.
-
It dies make it difficult and take more time, but that's what bungie wants. At least we have more than 1 way to max our light level and now we aren't completely dependent on rngesus.
-
I see no issue. If you do your daily bounties you should rank up quickly. Probably once every 2 days or so for vanguard and crucible.
-
15 RepliesI'm more pissed about the fact that it's better gear then what I got from VoG. I just spent 3 months getting to 30. Now there is better armor from vendors then what I have?
-
I dont really care about all the decisions bungie made
-
i am totally against it and feel bad for the people who just leveled up their rank last night and now have to grind again just to level up and get one commendation, so no instead of having 2 weeks worth of max marks and buying a couple pieces of armor we now have to wait however long it takes to rank up to buy one piece. i think it would be a better idea if for every section of the diamond they have to show your progress you get a commendation or even for every half at least. just my thoughts but maybe thats why they added five more bounty slots so you can get more rep. i also think they should increase the amount of marks we can get in a week since they raised the prices on armor and since we can now buy materials with marks and not glimmer.

I don't like that we need both. As a casual player because of work that just pissed me off. More so the fact that we've spent time already leveling it up, and there's no reward for that.
-
10 Repliesthe problem is it makes it harder for people who dont raid. and easier for those who do. if bungie wants us to raid then give us matchmaking, and make them a little less reliant on a close knit group of six. most gamers dont regularly play with 6 people all the time. borderlands dint make people who dont raid feal bad like bungie is. raids should be some thing extra. now its close to mandatory.
-
Everything implemented in this game is to make it take more time. This is nothing new ever since trading got removed from the game.
-
I'm not pissed at all, honestly. Although I can understand why the system is irritating to some, I like it. I'm in for the long haul on this game, so I'm not too worried about taking a while to gain new armor from vendors. Also, legendary gear is supposed to be just that, legendary. I believe that this will help push the gear to a more "legendary" standing.
-
6 RepliesI won't buy gear to get to level 30. I'm still going to do the raid till I get it. Buying is for pussys
-
No. I don't get pissed about trivial shit.

Edited by Legit has one i: 12/9/2014 6:26:15 PMHonestly, I don't mind being held back from ranking up. I ranked up to 2 30's so fast, it's like I wasn't working towards anything anymore. It was shitty. I'm glad they have a pace maker in the dlc.
-
10 Replies-blam!- casuals, they have no place in this type of game. They're cancerous , they have been slowly but surely diminishing the quality of video games ever since Rock Band and Guitar Hero took gaming mainstream. OK, now that I got that out of my system... It's pretty common for developers to allow easier access to a previous level cap when they release an expansion. However, this is just a money grab DLC and not an expansion. There simply isn't enough content for this to actually expand the game, which is why we're only gaining an additional 2 levels. The Dark Below DLC should have taken us to level 40 and not level 32.

I little bit of love for previous work would have been nice. Adding it late makes it worse than it probably is.
