Will Black Hammer dethrone Icebreaker?

Its impact is notably higher then Icebreakers (32 while Icebreaker's is 25) and it has the new perk "White Nail" with the effect "Rapidly landing three precison shots will refill the magazine."
This means that even though you only have 3 shots in the mag, it is functionally infinite once you are landing only precision shots. The dps this will have on bosses is crazy.
I think people are going to be praying for this drop and it will be a "must have". Especially since it frees up your exotic spot. THe only thing Icebreaker has on it is that it's much more forgiving and you don't need to land precisions.

Situational, on any boss with large precision boxes, it's waaayyyyy better than IB, but anywhere else( like Crota for example.) IB is a better choice

In a few months Black Hammer will remain at 331. Ice Breaker will not. End of discussion.

It has for me. I find that I only use my Icebreaker when Juggler is active, In the VoG or when people I play with decide to cheese the bridge

Bring both or course. Equip when the situation calls for it. They compliment each other quite well with IB being better on mobs and BH on bosses. IB can also regen ammo for BH for you if you miss some shots. Over time IB will be the one to have though as it will most likely continue to upgrade while BH is left behind.

BH great for now. IB as an exotic will always be upgradable so it will continue to have life and utility. BH will get phased out of usefulness.

2 RepliesIB will be considered better until Xur sells it again, then BH will be the harder to obtain weapon, and will therefore clearly be better. It's pretty funny to see the hype build round "rare" weapons. Sure, it has to be useful in the first place, but between weapons of similar capability, the less common one will be considered superior. Ice Breaker/Black Hammer, Gjallarhorn/Dragon's Breath, Fatebringer/Timur's Lash, Atheon's Epilogue/Any other gun; all of similar capability, but the less common one is amazing, while the other is garbage. Destiny may not be a full MMO, but the gear elitism is out in full force.

They both have situations they excel. I have on Black Hammer and still want an Ice Breaker where getting crits is a bitch.

I would like the black hammer, but when I have my icebreaker, it pairs nicely with my Red Hand or TFWPKY, and a rocket launcher

No way man. Ice breaker can be used in any situation. Black hammer is a boss fight gun. I like black hammer but I don't think it's on the same level as the ice breaker.

It seems to be a "boss decimator" as white nail is a bit harder to land on mook level enemies unless you're really well positioned (and a crackshot :P). I hope all the giddy "OMG LOOK WHAT I DID TO *insert strike boss here*" posts don't incite Bungie to nerf the damn thing ;) *still hope to get mine*

Clan mate killed tank on RocketsMcDickface before I was done picking up ammo. Its insane. That said - exotic always wins out in the end (git managed to get Ice Breaker in a strike the same day by joining my ROC strike as we got to Sepkis Prime.)

1 Replyits only good for boss fights besides boss fights the fire rate is too slow and there is so much recoil, and only 3 in the mag it is so agravating to use

Still a situatonal thing for me. Love my black hammer, love my ice breaker. I use whatever will work better for the specific encounter.
