solution to strike "sitters"?

I'm sure we've all experienced it before, people simply standing at the start of a strike and going AFK, leaving everything up to the other two people or even a single person. Its frustrating to say the least, but what solutions do you think could be implemented? I feel some sort of "loot by kill" system would need to be implemented, not saying the more kills the better the loot, but if they do not lift their weight and aren't clearing at least 20% of the mobs, dealing at least 20% of total strike damage or present during ALL darkness zones then maybe that should reflect on loot possibility/mark/reputation rewards. This would encourage people to actually clear areas of a strike instead of running past and also stop strike sitters. The only downside to this I can see is the disadvantage it would give a level 24 compared to a level 30. It would also eliminate people coming in late and receiving rewards that a lot of the time are undeserved (although this generally doesn't bother me) as they didn't choose to drop into the strike towards the end. Any other ideas? It's obviously an ongoing issue. *EDIT* Would just like to say thanks for all the constructive responses, I've tried to keep up with it all but it can be hard at time between lunch breaks at work on mobile. Out of all the ideas I've read, compared and thought about (to make work go faster) I've listed a few that could almost work based on feedback and some initial ideas I've come up with thanks to those who have posted. Although splattering strike sitters into oblivion with your sparrow is satisfying, it's not really a full fix, so: 1•Change the bounty from "Complete any strike without dying" to something along the lines of "Complete any strike without dying and inflicting 25% or more of the total damage throughout the strike" (something along those lines). 2•From the moment a player enters a darkness zone, other members of the strike have 3-5 minutes to also enter the same darkness zone, failure to do so will result in getting booted to orbit. I understand many people rush past a majority of monsters to speed up the raid but if you are present, surely this is enough time to catch up. 3•All players must be present during the boss fight to receive rewards and bounties, whilst also inflicting at least 5-10% of the damage to boss/enemies within the boss zone/room 4•A vote kick option that becomes available once a player is inactive for 5 minutes or more. I feel this would work but nudging the controller would remove inactivity detection, so I would propose this option becomes available if they don't enter the current darkness zone within 3-5 minutes. 5•A report inactive option that becomes available under the same circumstances as mentioned above, instead of simply kicking them to orbit, make it add up so that if the same player is reported 2 times within the hour they are unable to do any vanguard strikes for a certain amount of time. Keep them coming, I will attempt to read and be as involved as possible. Although nothing will probably come of it anytime soon it's nice to have some ideas out there that might be viable. Plus it's keeping my mind busy at work. :)

  • A timer would be exploited, someone would just move every now and then. We need a vote system. And if the other person doesn't vote or they are a part of a fireteam, then we need to just leave. I think the voting system is the best option. Something needs to be done, people doing this ruin the Destiny experience that Bungie holds so dear

  • If you are a warlock, go sunsinger, put on solar wind and start pushing them into a group of mobs. When they die, report them and leave.

  • Inactivity and boot. Other games have it for matchmaking dungeons. A player doesn't move for 5 minutes kick em. And also report them.

    • Loot by kill wont work. Often times people are thrown it at the end or players jump in to help friends who have had teammates quit or get booted. 1st issue is easy, get rid of "strike w/o dying" bounty 2nd issue of marks/loot is a bit tougher to handle. You cant even do an activity check bc there are trolls who will just stay semi active. You also cant have a boot option as trolls on the other side of the coin would boot someone to clear a space for their friend to join at the end of the strike.

      • Players can't control if they come in late, the games to blame for that. But for players that knowingly enter a strike with 0 intention of playing the strike are scum, I actually report them for everything negative like 5-6 times repeatedly hoping to get that person banned to obstruct their ability to experience any near future PvE elements of the game...

      • We should be able to solve this issue somehow. I do agree with other players about a loot by kill system wouldn't work. A few people I play with have multiple characters, so when we get to the end, I'll usually hide/stay alive while they go swap out their characters. This is usually for nightfall/weekly, but tiger strikes occasionally when we have bounties to do.

      • I don't totally agree but I think something needs to be done. I don't agree for the reason that when you are legit and need to swap characters or something like that during a strike (which people do all the time in nightfall and weekly heroic) a kill counter could make or break your entire strike and ruin it for everyone. I think a good sense solution would be to have a strike report counter against the players who constantly AFK. The counter would not kick them or limit them from strikes but something along the lines of them being removed from the group once the group passes a checkpoint after 60 seconds or something if they have x number of reports against them. This way the only time the person is really kicked from the group is if they are actually AFK and so long as they are keeping up and productive they won't be removed. This would also stop potential abuse by habitual reporters. Kwesdog

      • I just do my part , if someone just sits there,fine , is someone leaves, ok too, any high lvl should be able to solo tiger strikes with no problems, I can't worry about what other people are doing (it's not the raid).

      • What about a solution to strike "runners"? Im sick of joining strikes and seeing one or both of the other players rushing ahead passed every enemy. I came to play the game, not rush through it like my life depended on it.

          A time limit to enter the dead zone and then a time limit at every check point would work if there not in there they get kicked, should help push them into the thick of the action Or just remove the no death strike bounty and replace it with another

          • Make it so that they have to get at least 60 kills per game, and only have the kills count in Respawn Retricted zones. If they don't get the required amount, they will be blocked from PvE for 30 minutes. [spoiler]If you're about to tell me that 60 kills is too much, you're probably one of those strike leechers.[/spoiler]

            • I hate this. I also hate those who just go back to orbit because they don't like the strike they are doing. I had to restart 4 strikes in a row once because of players afk or leaving. It's just annoying

                • I think the answer is even simpler, If 2 of the 3 people report the 3rd man for afk'ing he should get auto booted.
