The real cost of "Re-leveling" exotics (so very sad when you look at it)

So lets say you have an Exotic Weapon maxed out, i'll gove you a break down of several different cost variants. So lets say you maxed out an exotic weapon before the shard move it ran you 6550 glimmer plus materials and ass energy. Now if you redo this exotic it will cost you 7000 more glimmer plus 1 shard then 6550 and one more shard. (each shard is 7 strange coins). That's a total 20100 glimmer plus materials and 2 shards (14 strange coins) (to do ONE exotic pre Xur change. Lets say you leveled up an exotic post Xur change. It would run you 6550 glimmer plus materials and 1 shard. Then to redo the weapon you have to give Xur 7000 glimmer and 1 shard. Then to re-level you have to do 6550 plus materials and ANOTHER shard. This means you have to spend 20100 glimmer plus materials and THREE shards to max out one exotic (21 strange coins) THIS IS FREAKING NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTS. We have a 25k glimmer limit shared over 3 (optional) Guardians and if you have 3 guardians and run your weekly 3 times that's just 27 strange coins a week (not counting drops from random stuff). No one else finds this totally disgusting? EDIT: I forgot to add suggestions 1) when you upgrade to the new exotic why not add a few more damage circles to fill in? 2) why not remove the last four earned upgrade circles on a maxed out exotic weapon and the last 3 on armor and just have us re-level the damage only. the best part about the exotics be it armor or weapon is the perk. don't take the perks away from us. 3) take away all the damage only circles on a maxed out weapon and defense on circles on a maxed out armor and make us re-level just that portion while again keeping all the perks we unlocked. 4) take all our exotics back to zero without the need of Xur or glimmer or a shard and make them just like we found them all post patch. if all my exotics simply reset themselves to zero and i had to level them again without xur and that extra shard for the trade i could see re-leveling a bit easier to take. 5) make the re-leveling of exotics as fast and easy as leveling up a rare gun/armor

  • They did state it takes 1/5th the xp to level the weapon after you reset it and that it would take less materials(don't know if that includes glimmer) so if you had a telemetry plus the 1/5th it should take an insanely small amount of time

    • If you think for a second they will do anything to shorten you time on the hamster wheel, don't. With no real replay value the only way to keep you going Is this illusion of new gameplay in the form if grinding. If this upsets you, remember this next time they ask for money. #sad

    • I apologize but I did not read your whole post. Too many of these going around to think anything is new here. But I'll say this. View it as a exchange. Xur has more powerful versions of your weapons for sale that he will exchange for the weapon, 7000 Glimmer, and a Exotic Shard. Presumably as well the upgraded Exotics require less XP to level. I believe Bungie said this and will find the quote if necessary.

      • So now that Xur is here have you guys seen what I wrote to be true or untrue? Can you level up your remixed exotic faster? Does it cost what I said it would cost based on Bungie's own statements?

          • strange coins were way too easy to get and you could buy everything xur had every week and have left over coins to upgrade sparrows because they had a different color tail. (I think I have 5 legendaries now, only 2 of which are timebreakers) They made it so you can't buy everything every week, which helps solve the bitching we heard every week because everybody was using the newest xur gun. While it was nice to have enough strange coins to not have to worry about what you bought, this is probably a good thing. First time since the first month that I'm actually not sure whether to buy something or hold on to my coins. (Titan arms, since it's my least played class and I upgraded his chest)

            • Serious question, will we get the option to upgrade armor in the near future? just like we're allowed to with weapons this weekend?

              • I believe that allowing people the option to upgrade, and continue to use their weapons/armor was a mistake on Bungies part. They should have been like the majority of developers and let old gear collect dust or become material parts. There would be a lot less unappreciative people btchn and probably less of a headache for the rest of the community.

                • I've posted this on a couple other threads, but I thought it would be worth reposting here. The exotic reset isn't for veteran players, it's for the newbies. For that matter, most of the recent patch changes were for the benefit of newbies. Think about it. Bungie has our money. Many of us have already paid for DLC. There are no subscription fees. To continue making money so they can develop new content/feed their families, Bungie needs to convince new players to pick up the game or lure people back who quit two months ago but are curious about the DLC. You need to get these folks leveled up quick and you need them on a relatively even footing with the veteran players, otherwise, they're going to have a bad time and quit. So, first you get rid of farming. This is great for veteran players, but even better for newbies who don't have to waste hours looking for mats. Then, you take all the veteran players' exotics, and give them a choice. You can keep it as is or wipe it and start over, which in essence, puts them on the same playing field as the newer players who are also trying to unlock the perks. As a consolation prize, you get an XP bonus so you can at least rank up faster. Bungie didn't have a lot of good options. They could've made the old exotics obsolete. Bummer. They could've done what some have suggested and just make the last attack/defense upgrades take a long time to unlock, but this would be frustrating for both veteran players and the newbies they're trying to attract. And the alternative is upgrading a new weapon or armor piece in my prized exotic's place, which would also take just as much time and effort, if not even more so, because I might have to find ascendant/raid mats. And yes, part of this is the gear treadmill. If we're still playing this game three months after release, it's because Destiny has tapped into a portion of our addictive personalities. The part that says, I have to collect this gear, I have to upgrade everything. They need us to keep playing, too, so they do a gentle reset on some of our progress just so we'll do it all over again. And we will. Because we're a little crazy. Personally, I'm just glad I get to keep some of my prized exotics viable post DLC. There are only a couple I would consider upgrading, the rest are trophies or PvP oriented, and IB isn't a good enough reason for me to consider upgrading. Of course, I might change my mind post DLC, but we'll see I'm curious to see how the whole thing works out. I'm not stoked about having to wait for Xur, RNG and the stars to align, but there are only so many exotics currently in the game, and with what looks like six weapon and armor upgrades offered per week, I'm hoping I won't have to wait too long. That's what I got, Guardians. Good luck, and see you in The Dark Below.

                  • Aside from the perks it does not take long to max out an exotic weapon, the newer version exotic start off at 302 ATT which is basically where you left off with the old exotics. Plus you dont have to trash your old ones anyways, if you get a new version from a Nightfall and so on hold on to your old one until youve upgraded your newer version enough. Plus upgrading exotics is a hell of a lot easier now.

EDIT: I seem to have some bad info in the post below. Venture at your own peril. 1. You don't have to pay an exotic shard to Xur to trade in your old exotic. just glimmer, a strange coin, and the aforementioned exotic. 2. Exotics don't have to be leveled in order to trade it. They could be completely stock and xur will still take them. 3. If you fully leveled up an exotic after they made the change knowing that you were wasting a shard if you wanted to trade it in later, that's your fault. They told you about the reset at the same time they told you that shards were needed now. Don't blame them for a lack of patience. 4. New eotics are going to require less xp that before. This might mean less upgrade nodes which could equate to having to spend less glimmer. Realisticly, to reset an exotic it will cost you: 7000 glimmer and 1 coin. To upgrade it it'll cost: XP, an unknown amount of glimmer, and a shard. Oh and mats. It's not that bad. Plus if you don't want to fork up the 7 coins for a shard, you can dismantle an excess exotic. A fully upgraded on will give you 2 shards, a 14 coin value. That's almost the cost of a new exotic weapon from xur. That's not too bad.

                          • Although I got a handful of exotics, it eventually comes down to a few I would use frequently. I am quite lucky this way because I can recover the awesomeness of a reset exotic in a few days. All of my regulars in a week. But some players with a broader taste than me is gonna suffer badly... Resetting exotics for the ultimate upgrade really isn't the best for all. Should have just added extra nodes. But then that is not the best solution for Bungie's desire of a boost in play (grind) time. I see Bungie made a very selfish choice here. It is a decision not made 4 the players, it is against the vibe of PS4 (4 the players).
