Firstly, lets please stay civil about this. I'm sure we are all capable of this.
So Thorn was my second exotic I got, and its probably my most used weapon to date (TLW and Hard Light are catching up real quick though). So I was naturally ecstatic that The Thorn got a buff. I loved it pre-patch, but it was just underwhelming. After using it for a bit yesterday, I essentially said to myself ".....Mayyybbee this was a little too much." Don't get me wrong, Thorn needed a buff, but its like it got injected with steroids and here is my reasoning (for PvP anyways).
Reload speed was necessary, but the mag increase was a tad too much.
Thorn is supposed to be about precision shots, even more so than a normal handcannon. If you miss the head, you are gonna be dead. On paper and practice 9 shots in the mag seems too much to me. It should have been 7 or 8 at most. It was supposed to be a defensive 1v1 MAYBE 1v2 gun. Hit the guy twice in the head, take cover, reload, and watch the person fall after a second or two while you remain safe. Its reload time and mag size now put it closer to the rest of the handcannons where it is strictly meant to be offensive. Now it has all the added bonuses of the other handcannons AND its own advantages. Therefore, it has the added bonus of killing in two shots, large mag, and adequate reload, making it and all purpose, VERY powerful weapon.
For PvE I have no opinion as of yet.

You want to be civil, yet idiotic polls with skewed options warrants the very opposite of civil. You see, I have this problem - like a lot of people around the world - I hate stupid and you sir, you are very stupid for making this post.
-
It takes a while to grind for thorn unlike other exotics that can drop from anywhere or be bought by xur. It should be a strong gun!
-
The buffs make it worth it's exotic status, you have to sacrifice the ability to use other great exotics.
-
Stop with the nerf/buff requests. You -blam!-ing swear dude.... It was too weak and needed a buff. Now it's too strong and needs a nerf. Just stop it. Please.
-
Edited by FunkTheWorld: 1/13/2015 3:18:44 AMIt's a little too strong in PvP imo. Not too OP, just a tiny bit. I think maybe a mag size nerf would be just fine. Rigged poll though.

That 3d printed thorn is nice
-
The Thorn is meant to be a gun of the gods. My Plug One served me well for Void damage on Crucible, finished top of team in every game using only that. 2+ KD every game. It was ever so satisfying to see "Crystro found Depleted Hand Cannon." In the feed. Totally worth a days worth.
-
Says be civilized Option for disagreement is that you are "blinded"
-
PvE it one hits lower tiered enemies and 3-4 shots any non-shielded yellow bar enemies. It's perfectly balanced in pve, minus the ability to take shields quickly. That's a pain in the neck.
-
No option to disagree with you. Bad Poll
-
>Thorn is okay the way it is now and you have nothing to cry about. *Check
-
Poll is rigged in your favor. There's no way to disagree with you. As for Thorn, I just wish DoT would reset on a second hit, instead of ticking away till the first hit ran out.
-
Hawkmoon all the way xD
-
There should be an option for "It is the way it should be"
-
i love to use it in pvp. but hate going against it. and very rarely will i live after one shot. which is really frustrating. PvE...meh. it's nice against majors and stuff, but ill take fatebringer for PvE. actually i don't really like using it in PvE. just feels weird...i prefer the handling of the Hawkmoon (awesome sights) and TLW.
-
Thorn isn't better than most hand cannons out there. It just emotionally cripples those who watch their life drain away. If you compare thorn to say Dr Nope or almost any pulse rifle than yes it seems op. However when you compare it to fatebringer and suros regime it competes.
-
Need more ammo for pve otherwose its fine
-
Personally, I agree. I love the Thorn, but I think an even faster reload (closer to TLW), while maintaining the 6 round mag would have been better for 2 reasons. One, 9 as you said, is a bit much. Two, it makes the final round perk even less useful, and I didn't get much use out of it to begin with.
-
a mag smaller than 9 would make it much less effective in pve.Its. perfect the way it is, and is on par with the other exotic handcannons now.
-
Didn't like any of those answers I live my thorn I think it's perfect
-
First gun so far they got right.. need more weapons built up to these standards.. or these players just need to be better against it in pvp.
-
I think it needed the extra ammo capacity for PVE. It's currently the hardest exotic bounty, so it's kinda the Vex of exotic bounties. It should be a little OP in my mind. I'm not a big hand cannon guy. So my opinions are questionable.
-
I am good with aiming for the head. So DoT or not, it'll normally take me 4 shots to kill someone in the crucible. So let's say we reduced the clip to 4 shots. If you are aiming for the head, but happen to miss one, the DoT will finish him off. Don't get any headshots, just body shots, you're most likely dead. My opinion? 7-8 is 2 to 1 off from 9... No big difference. I think that they made the buff simply for PvE, which was to focus on its high range and impact, DoT, and clip size on bosses. I think the Thorn should be double sided: one side for PvE (current build), and the other nerfed side for PvP.
-
Thorn is the Hardest Exotic to get in the game currently. You need to fight with the RNG to get the bounty, and the bounty itself is a bitch. It deserves to be one of the best guns in the game.
-
I broke mine down for the exotic shard. Never used it.
-
The rate of fire is still pretty slow compared to other exotic HC though. If it shot as fast as Hawkmoon or TLW it would be too much. I feel like overall it is now on par with those two but to be honest if a match is close I'll switch to Hawkmoon or TLW in order to get that W.
