The latest patch has left a few players in the dark…

EDIT: I'm not arguing about farming. I don't consider myself a player that just plays the game to "farm". I play the game because I enjoy it, completing bounties & patrol missions. I collect the materials because they're there. I'm arguing about the fact that I no longer have a use for materials. EDIT 2: Like many have said, I am glad they have changed it so now materials are easier to get, not that I had a problem in getting them in the first place. BUT I still have no use for excess materials. Yes, I will keep hold of them until I have some new gear to upgrade but what about afterwards when I don't need to upgrade anything, when I'm in the same position as I'm in now? EDIT3: It's tiring having to explain it to every single person. WHEN I have new gear that I think is better than what I currently have, then I will be using those materials for upgrades. Meanwhile, when I don't have ANYTHING to upgrade, what do I do with these materials when I am VERY capable of rebuilding that stock over time? I can't sell them off but I don't want to keep them because they feel useless just sitting their in my inventory. FINAL EDIT: So, after nearly 300 replies, I'm glad to see that some Guardians, if not all, agree that the mats for marks mechanic is useful to have, even if they didn't use it or need it. At least we can come to some equal footing though, with the idea of a fair trade system for mats & marks. Also, those who think I was complaining about the now triviality of farming or the fact that farming is simply negated that you can buy materials, perhaps I tried too hard in explaining that I miss the old trade system before the patch. Perhaps next time I won't try to sound civilised amongst the common sounding crowd of "nerf this" & "op that". Players, like myself, who enjoyed scouring the PvE environments for materials have now lost an important aspect to the business of upgrade materials. Before the update, I was happy to wander about gathering materials &, to help in passing the time linked to farming, complete a dozen or so patrol missions to help in upping faction reputations. Although only level 29, I didn't have a need for the materials, except to exchange them for vanguard or crucible marks. So the exchange rate was a smidgen unfair - I didn't mind. I didn't play the game just to exchange materials all the time, but it was useful to me & many other players that preferred PvE over PvP. In my view, the PvP of Destiny is the same multiplayer experience that I've had in many other games. It doesn't excite me unlike Destiny's PvE, where I can go at my own pace, enjoying the game. You may tell me to "get gud" or call me "scrub". So what? PvE is how I play, I enjoy Patrol. This is what a Guardian does. I see the Raid as a bit of a novelty, I've done it once & I don't feel the need to complete it every single week. In the end, we used the material exchange utility in order to get marks & also remove our growing stock of materials that we had no need for. Now that you buy materials in exchange for marks, it seems a bit backwards for us. We have no need for it. How is that hard to understand? SIDE EDIT: I am incredibly RP heavy with this universe so most of my replies from 12PM GMT 03/12 onwards will resume normal service.

  • Except the dlc drops next week. New weapons across the board including exotics new vanguard etc. New armor. All these weapons and armor will take materials to level them up. The 6 people I've seen bitch about this are grasping at straws looking for something to bitch about. I bet if bungie showed the figures 85+% of people didn't use the material extange. This method is a lot better for people looking for new weapons and armor to max out that don't want to spend hours running patrols looking for materials. I can personally say without lying I've had this game since launch I have prob(without looking) 300-400 hours played and I have never once used the material extange. It's a waste what you get in return was a minimal compared to the time. It was quicker to play 5 crucible games that it was to farm 50-100 material. The game can't cater to everyone. So Sry that a few people don't like this but when the majority of the player base loves the new change you are just gonna have to get over it.
