just realized this. if i never died on halo 3, what would my K/D ratio be? since you have to actually die to get a ratio, would there just be a "blank" in front of the K/D ratio?
Posted by: Arcadianx98 just realized this. if i never died on halo 3, what would my K/D ratio be? since you have to actually die to get a ratio, would there just be a "blank" in front of the K/D ratio?
A kill /death ratio of someone that never died would technically be impossible to calculate. (The divide by zero "rule") However, with some logic, and a few math courses, you can see that actually, the ratio would be infinity. For example: Say you had 1000 kills and 1 death. Your ratio would be 1000. Now, if you wanted to calculate for if you had 1000 kills and 0 deaths, you simply begin reducing the death number. So... 1000 kills and 0.1 deaths would be a ratio of 10,000. 1000 kills and 0.01 deaths would be a ratio of 100,000. 1000 kills and 0.001 deaths would be a ratio of 1,000,000. But back to my original statement, that a kill death ratio with 0 deaths will always equal infinity. To put it rather simply, as long as you have at least 1 kill, as your deaths approach 0, your Kill/death ratio approaches infinity. I hope that isn't too confusing.

yea he is right it is a dash. problem solved so the goal of this thread has been achieved. im going to make a new account and get 1 kill then quit before i die until i have like 1000 kills and no deaths and people will think im god. j/k

For everyone who keeps sayin that it would be the number of kills, think of this; the k/d ration is pretty much how many times you get a kill before you die each time. This can't be calculated until you do die, so there would just be a - or something
-
Posted by: xBKx Sentient Technically it should be infinity, as anything /0 = infinity. However, I know for a fact that it simply becomes the number of kills you've had.
how do you know by fact?
-
Like I said...its a dash.
-
This is how it would come up on B.net Zero Deaths To anyone who thinks it is simply your number of kills, the above is proof you are wrong. [Edited on 04.23.2008 10:32 AM PDT]

Technically it should be infinity, as anything /0 = infinity. It seems it is a dash... I could swear I had a k/d of 23 with 23 kills...ah well, must be wrong. :P [Edited on 04.23.2008 10:54 AM PDT]

Infinite? Wouldn't be 1000 since that would mean that you have been killed once.
-
For my first few games I didn't have a death, and when i checked where it usually has a number for K/D, there was a dash ( - ) in its place. So I guess your K/D at 0 deaths would really be infinity.
Posted by: Hero Noli 117 It would be the number of kills you have but what are the chance.
no it wudnt it wud be - due to the fact u havnt died it wud be say 1000 k/d if u had 1 death and 1000 kills but u need to die at least once
Posted by: HyperSMB You would have no ratio. A ratio by definition requires a non zero integer to be in the denominator.
-
No ratio... it would just blow up all the servers and no one could ever play halo again. Basically.
-
it would be 1000 to 0
-
DIVIDE BY ZERO
-
even if you had 1000 kills and no deaths, your ratio would not be 1000, it has to be nothing [Edited on 04.23.2008 10:27 AM PDT]
Posted by: HyperSMB You would have no ratio. A ratio by definition requires a non zero integer to be in the denominator.
.......Yeah......

thats what i was thinking, so is there anyone who just has nothing infront of their ratio yet? is there a halo god on here yet?
-
Yeah, didn't you ever take math? :)
-
well, if you had 0 deaths, and 1000 kills your KD ratio would be 1000. it would be however many kills you had *update* this is my 500th post =))* [Edited on 04.23.2008 10:27 AM PDT]
