Honestly, it's slightly upsetting. But it really isn't that big of a deal. It will take 3-5 days worth of bounties to upgrade it, and you can only use 1 exotic at a time anyway. Just work on the ones you use most, and you won't even notice it.
Plus, with the new stats you can use it sooner, speeding up the leveling process....

I got my mythoclast maxed the day after I got it thanks to having 3 characters, with old bounties and new ones, and for xur selling the fusion rifle telemetry.

So with the ability to carry 10 bounties, it really won't take that long...

Do nightfall to increase all xp gains and use a telemetry when ever you use the weapon.

Swap to the weapon you want to upgrade before the end, and get the EXP...
