Honest question, can hand cannons be viable in the crucible? Fatebringer has effectively made me fall in love with hand cannons for the first time. I usually use Suros in crucible and have never sucked, but I would like to get better and want to know your thoughts.
So, can a moderately decent pvp player be better than moderately decent with a hand cannon?
Thank you for the (hopefully positive) feedback.

1 ReplyI found the fatebringer weak in pvp, its playable, but the body shots are too weak, head shots are a lot stronger, but still id rather use the Thorn, its very strong for pvp, down side only 6 in the chamber and very slow reload, but its fun to use, and can be very effective, body shots are strong, and for head shots, its a 2 shot kill. The last word is meant to be good once the stability perk is added for full auto, but you can use it like a semi auto while ranking up.

1 ReplyMy hand cannon is my favourite weapon. PvE use gets you disciplined in landing head shots, and that translates well for PvP. I'm also buoyed by the fact that there's general respect for the skill required. I have good games and bad games, but when I suck with a hand cannon, it's always my own fault!

1 ReplyYeah very good if you can land the head shots.

1 ReplyEdited by Horizon2807: 11/29/2014 1:35:31 PMI've been using Suros for a while (2k+ PvP kills with it) and after trying many other weapons, even what people called OP like TLW,I thought I wasn't able to change my playstyle, this happened till I got Hawkmoon, check my clash matches...after some training it's really a good weapon :) (Don't look at my control ones,I play it just for the bounties and I hate it D:)

5 RepliesEdited by HermanOfYork: 11/29/2014 1:57:03 PMHand cannons are absolutely outstanding in crucible. I spend the majority of my time in pvp and very rarely use anything but. I have a collection of exotic and legendary cannons all maxed including hawkmoon, the last word, thorn, timurs lash, and the devil you know. I'll switch from one to the other some times just to change things up and keep things fresh. Some times when I want to have fun with gjallarhorn or some other secondary/heavy exotic I'll equip one of the legendary cannons. My favorite hand cannon for crucible is very honestly Thorn. The last word and hawkmoon are both better in some critical ways, but Thorn has a special place in my heart. The optics on it are outstanding with a large wide open sight. The recoil, range, and impact are all very good. The bleed used to be excellent before the accidental nurf in the last patch but after they fix the exotics in the upcoming patch I'm confident that it'll be great again. There's one great thing about the bleed though that people don't usually think about. It's seriously alarming to get hit with. It makes the edges of the screen burn as soon as you're hit which pulses as you take the ticks of bleed damage which tends to make even experienced players panic a little. The mental effect on your enemy in crucible is just as important as the damage the weapon does. Anyway, enjoy your journey into the world of hand cannons!

1 ReplyYes absolutely. Hand cannons are my favorite in crucible. The last word, which I recently got from the nightfall, is amazing. It took me a little while to learn it but now id say I'm good with it. Check my history and see for yourself. My KD is low cause I sucked when I first got it lol

1 ReplyI use nothing but hand cannons, you should practice headshots on mobs in pve, The Devil You Know has good upgrades. Thorn was a 2-shot kill before the nerf. Timur's Lash can 2-shot Hunters (not sure about the other two) with no armour upgrades if you have that.

1 ReplyLat word is the bomb for crucible
-
1 ReplyThe Last Word melts everyone if you can use it. Requires a bit of skill
-
1 ReplyI've been dying to get the last word for crucible it is an amazing gun, I use the vanguard hand cannon and it's great in crucible
-
1 ReplyI do pretty good with my Last Word. Did great on my Warlock with Thorn too, recently acquired a Hawk Moon that I'll be passing on to her to replace it. If you don't have any of the mentioned your best bet is to use Lord High Fixer for a while. It's a decent hand cannon. Just take your time and aim, they have small ammo pools and you don't want to have to reload if you lack any kind of faster reload perk.

1 ReplyThe Last Word, Hawkmoon, Thorn (fully upgraded was a 3 shot kill before they nerfed the poison), and The Devil You Know are all good in the crucible. Personally, I've had some of my best matches using TLW.
-
Last word is most viable. Hawkmoon and tdyk are good. Aim for the head, gaurdian.
-
1 ReplyLast word is a probably the best PvP HC you can get. If you dont have that thorn works wonders once they patch the DOTs. Other than that the TYDK is one of my favorites. Iv heard Lord high fixer is good as well but have not gotten a chance to really use it. If you are on playstation and are blessed enough to get the hawkmoon that is also very viable because of the 3 lucky shot perk. I have one shotted a guy before and the range is unbelievable. Its hard to make it work in crucible but once you learn how to use them the right way its awesome!

3 RepliesI normally use my Hawkmoon, but i decided to use a Unleveled Devil, part from the first perk in a rumble match and i got 6 more games with it all ending the same way. After IB, the skill level of opponents has dropped by quite a bit and yes i did a huge fail with my super there ^^. I consider myself average on Destiny pvp, on Dust 514 witch has very little one shot moves i used to be extremely deadly, like 1 vs 16 was a walk in the park, but on Destiny i struggle with the numerous one shot weapons or supers. In rumble not so much of those around.

2 RepliesCareful, the last word is a different play style than all other Handcannons.
-
1 ReplyTLW is the best PvP handcannon IMO. You can play aggressively at closer or medium range because it has the fastest time to kill of the primary weapons, and it's still useable at medium range.
-
7 Repliesi love using the devil you know in crucible. And if you buy it from vanguard you get send it, which is the ultimate hand cannon perk.
-
1 ReplyPlay a bit more like a sniper when using a non-Last Word Hand Cannon.
-
1 ReplyThe Devil You Know Lord High Fixer Hawkmoon Fatebringer All of the above will eat people alive; hawkmoon is best. Practice in pve getting as many headshots as possible in quick succession before going in to the crucible. Slow down and make your shots count;always be conscious of where your reticle is aiming. You cannot go on autopilot with hand cannons like you can with ARs. The transition from autorifles (I assume) to hand cannons is challenging at first but very rewarding. Don't give up. Finally, The Last Word is supremely overrated. Once you learn to use slower, harder-hitting HCs you won't want to bother with it. Check my PvP stats if you question my credibility.

THORN FTW!!!

1 ReplyEdited by Akijax: 11/29/2014 3:02:26 AMTraditional HC Exotic (my fav): Hawkmoon The high impact and range can be deadly in mid to long range situations. Substitute Legendary: Lord High Fixer or The Devil You Know (Fatebringer has similar stats to TDYK) Tough to handle but satisfying results: The Last Word

2 RepliesUse hawkmoon if you got it or TLW those wreck. Hand cannon users in the crucible are imo the most skilled seeing as it can be hard to be consistently precise with your shots. But anyways just aim for the head and you be good
-
2 RepliesJust aim for the face
-
1 ReplyIt's all about taking your time to hit two precision head shots and using the map to do so. You can't run and gun with the hand cannon like you would with an auto rifle. You can be great with the hand cannon, it'll just take some practice. Good luck man.

1 ReplyHandcannons are killer in the crucible. U just can't run n gun with it, u have to take ur time and be patient.
