Why Raid matchmaking should exist.

I know what you're going to say "just go on destiny lfg or the forum and find people." but think about it, when you find a team all you ask is what level they use and what class they run. then you run it with them knowing nothing else (with the exception of people that get to know them first I guess?) which is all matchmaking does! pairs you with players of similar skill. I've found awful teams via lfg, just like you would matchmaking. So just add it? have some preferences like halo had, so you could specify your play style and experience with the raid so players can find appropriate players... seriously we're doing matchmaking for them and we shouldn't be. EDIT: so apparently people don't realise they can just keep making their groups online and not use matchmaking. Why is everyone assuming it's a feature that would be forced on them? it's a simple feature that should be implemented for players that don't want to find a group outside of the game. Everyone else can keep using lfg happily? Seriously where is the harm?

  • Every raid I've done has been formed on the destiny forums.. aka, random matchmaking. It would be way easier to get a group and I wouldn't have to wade through the "level 30 only" people to find a god damn group.

  • Bad idea. I dont care if they add it or not. I wont use it. Just look at how many people leave strikes. About 50% of the time I end up doing a strike solo or with 1 more. People are always dropping out. Imagine that during a raid?

    • No it shouldn't. I don't want noobs with no mic in my group.

      • At least with the current system you have some level of control over who you (semi-randomly) get paired with. With a matchmaking system it would be a total crapshoot. I want to be able to go on the forums and see who's up for Raiding and choose for myself. It's not that big of a hassle; I think the longest it's ever taken me to find a party is 15 minutes. And at some point you have a large-enough friends list from using the forums that you don't even need the random pickups anymore.

      • There are definite benefits to knocking a system for matchmaking for the raid, and it is certainly not a black and white issue. I think the simplest compromise would be a sort of in game LFG system that would afford guardians a certain level of discretion, while not requiring the use of third party websites and databases.

I think a few weeks after the first expansion is out and people are better geared and hopefully 30+ they should setup matchmaking for the VOG Normal only. I dont think people can come together with 5 random strangers that a computer system paired them with and over come anything tougher then VOG Normal. Its different when you have to make the group yourself. You yourself is judging and questioning weather the people you are inviting have done the raid, have good weapons, good gear, and have a good general sense of whats going on before going in. When a computer pairs people, everyone is going to assume that everyone knows what they are doing and thats not going to work to well in hard mode VOG or the new raid.

      • I could stomach this if matchmaking set some parameters. 29-30 for hard 26-30 for normal; prioritized new players to a current raid group with less than 6 players, etc... mics are a must have. It would be difficult, but you can still use destinylfg or guild for raiding. It just gives another way to allow players to get together. I'll take three options instead of the two we currently have.

          • I think a much better solution is an in-game LFG system, or social features so you can find people looking for raids/nightfalls etc Imagine having an icon above your head in the tower so people can clearly see you want to do the raid Just some thoughts

                • No. Never. You cant even kick people out if it was matchmade. Someone goes afk then what. Someone keeps dying then what. Who wants to restart entirely? Itd cause a decrease in raid dificulty of all things which is silly

                  • Haha good point. We ARE doing matchmaking for them. I think the option should be there. If you want to jump in with randoms and risk people messing about, someone opening a chest on their own, kids screaming, someone playing Euro-techno down the mic, people leaving after a wipe, arguing, crap organising, all that stuff, then you should be allowed to jump right in there. If you'd prefer to have a more mature crack at it with players you know won't let you down, then you just don't do matchmaking. Currently there are so many players out there who haven't done the raid at all and are eager to give it a go but can't get a group together. Some people just aren't good at joining new groups or introducing themselves etc. These people would use matchmaking. The option should be there.

                  • Nope. Too many foreseeable and unforeseeable issues with it. Requiring you to do the legwork to find a party at least SORT OF helps ensure all parties involved are really into it (it's obviously not perfect). In MM, any random can join just to see what's up. The emotional involvement in the process is minimal when all you need to do is hit A to get queued up.

                  • Matchmaking will work but it needs to be tweaked, there needs to be the ability to kick players, the ability to rate players and the ability to set parameters on the type of matchmaker you want to be matched with.. Those saying no just don't use it... Simple

                  • They need a raid lounge area. Where you can talk and pick up players.

                  • If you can't take the extra 5 mins on destinylfg.net or.com you probably don't ha e the patience for the raid, just sayin

                  • This will never happen. They did it in world of Warcraft and it was a terrible experience. They finally got it to work by reducing the difficulty of the looking for raid que and also resizing the quality of the gear somewhat. I have a feeling destiny players wouldn't like this and from what I've seen doing randoms, a looking for raid would be a terrible idea with this game.
