Sorry, there is no upgrade for physical copies. Only thing that will upgrade is the expansion pass.

Edited by ynitsed: 11/19/2014 11:10:10 PMHmm, As I cannot see a technical limitation, merely a bureaucratic limitation. So I will have to suspend my upgrade to PS4. It is not monetary as I could easily afford to purchase additional copies, I just don't think I should have to. Thanks for taking the time to answer SGT FURY. I'd like an answer from Bungie direct before I mark this as answered as I have asked for reconsideration. Thanks.

I feel you man however, it is not Bungie who handles this transaction/upgrade. It is Sony/Microsoft who will allow/disallow such transaction using the disc copies.
-
Well then, time to contact Sony and let's see what can be done. :-)
-
I've contacted Sony and Activision in the Netherlands, but they refer me to Bungie for this issue. The only Help-section I find from Bungie is this forum (no e-mail or telephone (?)). And then Bungie doesn't even react so it seems... I think it's a shame that Bungie only upgrades the games that were digitaly purchased. My fysical copy of the game costs just as much. I can't imagine this is a problem for just a bunch of players. Community: let Bungie know! I've also tried to get a digital copy from the Playstation Store, because I own a digital version. But up till now, no succes... Could you give a reaction, Bungie?
-
I've also tried to get a digital copy from the Playstation Store, because I own a digital version.
So what exactly is your problem?
-
I tried to get a digital copy so I could upgrade my existing physical edition of Destiny. But Sony declines, refers me to Activision and Activision to Bungie. Only free upgrades to PS4 for digital copies sounds to me as unfair for alle the gamers that bought a physical edition from release.
-
Sorry Im not understanding. If you go buy a digital version of last gen you're able to access the free upgrade promotion. Of course this requires you to buy the digital version on last gen. When you say you tried to get a digtital copy what do you mean exactly? To get a digital copy you just go and buy it.
-
There's a promotion from Bungie. If you buy a PS4 and you played Destiny on PS3, you get a free upgrade. So I bought a PS4 recently and expected to get the upgrade, but it's only for digitally purchased copies. I don't see why there's a difference. I tried to get a digital versie form Sony (PS Store) for my physicial copy, but Sony declined and refers me to Activision and they refer me back to Bungie.
There's a promotion from Bungie. If you buy a PS4 and you played Destiny on PS3, you get a free upgrade.
The very link you provided mentions the program applies to digital last gen copies, numerous times. There is a significant difference in production cost of digital and physical copies. So there is a difference in what can be offered, promotion wise.
-
Well ya. You dont get free stuff. Are you a special snowflake? They refer you back to here because you're asking for free stuff.
-
Did you read the promotion? It's not about 'free stuff'. It's about a promotion from a retailer that creates a difference in customers who bought the digital game and the physical game. In that regard 'the special snowflakes' are the ones that bought a digital version of the game. @Anidien: Yes, the link does mention it. That's why I'm reacting. You are right that production costs differ. And that probably is the reason why the promotion is as published. But I can disagree, can't I? There must be more gamers like me, that are disapointed....
-
Yes you are entitled to your opinion. But don't underestimate the overall cost of the physical copy to the publisher, and how much room they have to work with digital copies. Steam has single handedly revitalized PC gaming by making digital distribution the standard, and opened the doors for small independent developers who could have never entered the industry 15 years ago, due to production and distribution costs. You can barely walk into a game store, an find physical copies of PC games anymore. When I worked for a video game retailer, many moons ago, half my shelf space was PC games.
-
In regard to pc games I agree. For ps3 en ps4 it's another ballgame. Especially since the ps4 is quite a new console.
-
It's not really a different ballgame for consoles - production and distribution costs are still about the same for a physical game, as they are for a physical PC game. Consoles just haven't made a push to the digital copy as a standard yet. But now that consoles are out with enough HDD space to support digital as a standard (and the standard of online connectivity that allows it), they are making that push. Programs like the digital upgrade program, are parts of that push...

I know. But a transfer period would be nice.

I feel like an old person sometimes. Remember PC games that came with artwork? Still got my origianl Guild Wars, some fantastic art in there.
