I understand someone wanting $9.50 an hour, that's about what it would take to live where I do, but then again I don't understand why people get jobs at fast food restaurants when they have greater financial need than a high school dropout. The trouble is people don't like the idea of actually doing physical work -.-

To be fair, that physical work that pays better isn't as readily available to everyone who needs it. That, and not everybody who needs that wage could physically do that work. Plus, we're, all of us, being slowly engineered out of jobs while the population increases. What a time to be alive!
