By now, the majority of us could do the Vault of Glass blindfolded. We may not have found everything it has to offer (or maybe we have, who knows), but we can open the gate, push the Templar off, get past the Gorgons, destroy Atheon, and get our Chatterwhites in the matter of an hour. We have the whole process down to a science, and that's part of the beauty of the Destiny community, sharing countless tips from other players' experiences to make ours a little easier.
However, if you're like me, you missed one important part of Destiny's very first Raid, and that's the sense of discovery. When I did the VOG for the first time, I joined up with a mixed Fireteam of friends and strangers, some of whom had already completed it and knew what to do. While this certainly made the process easier, it slimmed the experience down to less of a cooperative figure-it-out to more of a do-what-you're-told-and-nothing-more. So while I was happy to get my first (and so far, only) exotic weapon drop, I felt like I missed out on an opportunity to experience something amazing - a team working together to figure out how to survive seemingly impossible odds. No help, no instructions, just six people getting by through sheer force of will.
I'll never be able to have the true Vault of Glass experience, but my goal is to not make the same mistake with Crota's End. I don't want to be told what to do, but rather have equal input as everyone else and learn how to eliminate the threat of Crota one step at a time.
Does anyone else feel the same way? Or am I crazy, wanting to go through the frustration of hundreds of deaths where I could let someone else figure it out and reap the rewards of their efforts? I'm curious what your thoughts are.
Edit: Seems like there are a lot of you who feel the same way, which is awesome to hear! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your stories, and if any of you are on 360 and want to have a fireteam ready for Crota's End, feel free to hit me up. Gamertag is Bastinian.
Edit 2: Now on Xbox One! Feel free to message me on the One if interested in doing the next Raid blind.

I completely agree: I decided to go into CE blind, and my first run last night was a BLAST. We didn't make it very far (only past the first loot drop checkpoint) but I'm glad I decided to hold off and not watch/read anything about the encounters. It's a totally different experience from coming into your first run already knowing the mechanics of the events. I wouldn't consider myself a good puzzle-solving gamer, because I get frustrated easily and tend to get locked into circular thinking. But the beauty of Destiny is that you have a group of people to bounce ideas off of and struggle with together.

My fireteam went in blind and we've made a pact not to spoil ourselves. It's really satisfying solving and making progress together for the first time on a raid.

Edited by I--am--Sloth: 12/10/2014 5:41:10 PMExactly how I feel. I don't want to be led through it, I want to feel rewarded for achieving it as a group. Unfortunately its unusual for my normal Fireteam to have all 6 on at the same time so the longer we wait, the harder its going to be to avoid spoilers. We all discussed and agreed we will have to be patient - this one is all about the experience, rather than just quickly getting through it for gear without having the trial and error of learning it for ourselves.

Edited by ZachOfAllTrades: 12/10/2014 7:19:40 AMThe hardest part is finding a team who doesn't get frustrated with 6 hrs of wiping. The biggest key is never to blame eachother and have a light attitude. My team of friends did it at release and got angry and left after 5 hrs in stage 1. Later, I found a group of chill guys on the LFG and we blasted through without knowing how to do it. 90% of doing a raid blind is having a good attitude and not getting pissed at eachother.
