No. Change takes time. Good change takes time and planning. Turn that frown upside down.

 •
No. Change takes time. Good change takes time and planning. Turn that frown upside down.
I appreciate your point, but how much time and planning does it take to implement such a basic change? You don't need to write a multi-million dollar Pepsi marketing proposal for every little thing your company does. Not every decision needs to be extensively researched and debated before implementation. Sometimes fixes are self-evident. In this case, I'm frankly stunned that nobody at Bungie had the awareness to realize that a recruitment forum was needed within the first week after launch. It's such a simple fix.

 • Lol you have never worked for a business. Yes, everything is discussed and they had bigger fish to fry than catering to people who weren't talking about the game they're supporting.
Lol you have never worked for a business.
In fact, I have.
Yes, everything is discussed and they had bigger fish to fry than catering to people who weren't talking about the game they're supporting.
I know this is the way most businesses operate. I think it's short-sighted and inefficient. Obviously, no one person should be allowed to stroll into Bungie's offices and implement changes without consulting anybody, but a change like this should not take two months to pass muster by any stretch of the imagination. There was no debate to be had. Someone should have realized the necessity for the fix within a week of launch, brought it up to their superior, decided upon a method of action, and then implemented the fix. As to whether they had bigger fish to fry, well, I agree and I disagree on that point. Obviously, Bungie should be focusing on their game first and foremost, and it's clear that they are doing just that. However, the web team has a very specific goal, which is to support Bungie.net. They aren't responsible for the game, just the website. Obviously, elements of Bungie.net tie into the game (stats, Grimoire, etc...) and those elements should be given priority to the extent that they need attention, but I refuse to believe that nobody had time to implement a simple addition of one new hashtag and a re-writing of one forum description at any point in the past two months. That's ridiculous. I suspect that the problem lies in how much bigger Bungie has gotten in the past few years. It's a much more powerful ship now, but it takes greater effort to disseminate information and steer that ship where it needs to go. I don't think Bungie has learned how to do that yet.

 • If you have indeed worked for a business then I think you're not taking into account that A) the changes to make the forums more... understandable to newcomers needed to be designed properly. The last thing you'd want to have is to take away "gaming" from them and they scatter, or go en masse to yet another wrong forum. Multiple ideas were probably tossed around for what the best way to implement a new system that would help users find groups they needed, help keep people out of the wrong parts, and be understandable to all. Finding the right idea probably took time. And B) it's important to keep this update coinciding with a slew of other updates. If you're going to make a pretty major change to functionality like adding a new board and new titles to make things behave differently, and you already have other changes in the works, it makes far more sense to do all of this at once than to continuously need to either do it on top of user activity or take the forums down repeatedly. Considering changes needed to be made on their end already for new dlc stuff, holding off board/new functionality changes until now seems like a good idea. I hardly think Bungie was lazy. It seems to me like they wanted to take their time and make sure the changes they made would be effective and well timed and I have absolutely no problems with their doing that. Discussing things to every minute detail can be a detriment to business, but in cases like this I'd prefer it be done right than fast. Now alongside the outage for the new content we have visible ways to keep good threads up, we have a new forum board, and no more down time. Seems like a fair bit at the cost of waiting a while to me.

 • Out of curiosity, what possible solutions were discussed?

 • I'm not an employee so I was only privy to some discussion and provided feedback and suggestions. Most of the discussion I know of revolved around better names, descriptions, and new and appropriate forums to stem the massive flood of L4G type posts.

 • It was probably the simplest solution available, but it shouldn't have taken so long unless they were giving some serious consideration to other ideas. Just a theory.

 • I hear you, but I don't think we can presume to know their change management process. Changes require testing and these particular changes had to take into consideration anticipated behavioral changes as well. So, I'm totally okay with Bungie being deliberate about the steps and changes. If they made changes a month ago with less consideration, it could have made things even worse. Again, I'm not an employee so these are just my thoughts.

 • I'm not criticizing, I'm just wondering. It's entirely understandable, but so is the frustration many people felt.

 • No, no. I hear you. Solid theory, too.
