  • Reload speed. I can't stand to be out of action for that long when I reload a gun the has such a small capacity.

its tiresome to use, constantly reloading and it takes so long. Its nice to look at, and i like the sight and the noise it makes, but the combination of a small magazine and a long reloading time make it a gun which isnt fun, Im using it right now just to level it up to at least the poisoned rounds, but im getting fed up of it already. This is on pve wih a lot more enemies, so maybe this gun is designed around pvp

  • I myself do not use thorn, but when I am killed by one in the crucible no foul thought enter my mind, however mad respect is given for someone skillful enough to wield a hand cannon in the depths of the crucible. Shout out to people who fought to get thorn (huge accomplishment) and fight with thorn (immense skill)

Cylinder Capacity, Fire Rate, Recoil, Reload Speed That being said, I enjoy using it soo much that I fully upgraded mine. The problem comes in when there are a dozen enemies (or more) in front of you. You're getting destroyed whilst you scramble to put enough bullets into each of them (yes, even with its great power and accuracy, it isn't always a one-shotter), then, after 6 of them go out, you dance around for quite a while waiting for the next 6 to load. It just becomes infeasible at higher levels against mobs. As to your edit, it hasn't been done yet. If you want to know what people think about Thorn after its rework, then do so, but until then people will react to the Thorn that exists. What they choose to rework is also, as far as I know, up in the air, so reload might not get touched.

It's inferior in almost every way to other top tier hand cannons. In the time it takes to reload Thorn, you can fire off 4 or 5 shots. Which also out damages the dot that thorn does. In a heated battle you don't want to be waiting on a dot to burn down a target, you want to take that last shot a finish them off. The accuracy and recoil on the other hand cannons is also much better, which means you can also fire it faster. The only thing I've found its good for is shooting through cabal shields, so one enemy type. Also the dot does less damage than a single shot and it takes longer to apply its damage, Personally i think Thorn is really cool gun, i feel it behaves more like how a HC should, but the fact is that its damage output is below a lvl 20 rare(blue) HC. Edit: all this applies only to my experience with it in pve only. i don't pvp. If they added an element type to the gun it might be useful.

It's an exotic. It should be better in most regards to other weapons. It's not. It's clip size is only 6. Plenty of other hand cannons have a much higher clip. It's slow reload is also a problem for non hunters. Both effect DPS. Which is important. The one saving grace it has for pvp is it's 2 shot capability. Which helps. But not much. It's not that thorn is bad. There are just much better options. If you want a truly bad weapon look at bad juju. EDIT: It's DOT is also bad. The warlock is the only person in the game with acceptable DOT (and that's a stretch.) The DOT is what allows to 2 shot in pvp but it's not helpful at all in pve. If the DOT re started everytime an enemy in pve got shot it would be better. Or if the DOT just stacked or did plain more damage it would be good.

    • i wish it had 8 bullets, would help alot in a 2v1 scenario. I love TLW, ive tried the fatebringer and other handcannons but they are slow. so my 2nd favorite hc is thorn. It kills fast, if i use it right, i can out gun most weapons.

      • I have tow friends with near-maxed Thorns, it takes a level of skill to use, but it's deadly as hell, don't even want to know how powerful it will be in Iron Banner..

        • They said they would buff some exotics, Bad JuJu and Thorn were specifically mentioned. May not even touch the reload speed, might just be some perks and Damage that get changed. Personally I don't like the slow reload. The DoT is cool but I feel it is lacking and low considering the low Clip size. You can't say the reload speed isn't a valid reason... It is the main reason. Were the gun able to hold more rounds in the chamber I could argue that the low DoT would be appropriate and the reload speed would be ok; however considering the small number of shots the DoT needs to be more potent.

        • I hate Thorn because DOT. When I hear that thing going off in the crucible, I run. I'm either going to die by it or die by someone else since my shield isn't recharging for another 5 seconds. I love Thorn because DOT. When I shoot someone 2 or 3 times and they run around a corner because they're low on health, they're still gonna die!

Who knows? Two well placed shots with the Mark of the Devourer active and you can just leave the battle. They'll die in a couple seconds. I use Thorn more than the Last Word. Don't have Fatebringer though.

          • Slow reload IS a valid reason ... And it's the reason most people hate it, which is what you asked. If and when the fix it, I'm sure fewer people will hate it. As it is, it's a great gun in PvP, but the abysmal reload can get you killed pretty easily in PvE with all the swarms of enemies ... Which makes it easily outclassed by lesser hand canons.

          • The reload is like an entire day though -_- I was kinda spoiled since I had legendary gloves that increased hand cannon reload speed so I never knew how much it REALLY was. I was like "oh it's pretty slow but not as bad as everyone says" then I got the raid gloves. Jesus.....

          • i hated it when it was not upgraded but now that i have the mark of devourer, i'd say it is an excellent gun. all it needs is a little patience and an accurate aim. also been waiting for that buff that bungie mentioned ages ago. something to look forward to for the thorn

            • Thorn just looks bad on paper. It's as good as any other hand cannon in the Crucible. 2 headshots is still a kill. 4 body shots is still a kill. Opt for the "Send-It" perk and you've got yourself a pocket sniper. (inb4 "That's what she said") Opt for the "Perfect Balance" perk, and you can run&gun from the hip all day. (see above. lol) With a pair of Hand Cannon Reloader guantlets, there's no reason NOT to use Thorn. Mark of the Devourer kills the enemy after they duck behind cover thinking they're safe. If it doesn't kill them, you can see where they're going. Just follow the 7's. Oh yeah, Postmortem, anybody? Not to mention the psychological effect it has. I've noticed I get t-bagged a lot more often now that I've brought my upgraded Thorn into the arena. Ha! People get thrown off their game when they see acid-green death flying down range. Also, the poison effect causes your enemy's screen to pulse red, obscuring their vision. Those that dislike Thorn, have no skill with Thorn. End of story.
