-
I pronounce it Mine-o-tar

Minotaur

4 RepliesI'm English, we were always taught to pronounce it like Mine-oh-tor. First heard the American pronunciation while playing Oblivion, during the arena quests. Since American-English is now a thing, neither are officially wrong.

Edited by Cardinal Erebus: 11/13/2014 12:44:06 PMMin-o-taur? Really i thought it was Meleetaur... considering they always want to punch you even if you're 100m away.

Min-oh-tour (like "sour") You have to remember, this is originally a Greek derivative, so technically the Greek pronunciation would be the official correct one. Much in the same way that "Godzilla" is technically incorrect.

English..... Min-o-taur. English trying to replicate what was probably the the Greek pronunciation. Probably Mee-no-taur.

It seems even the experts on Greek mythology cannot agree. The above uses MINE-O-TAR but this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJV7mv_mX5c uses MIN-O-TAR. Go figure! ;-) (personally I'd vote MIN-O-TAR but don't ask me about SKONS versus SCONES! (dry bun with currants for those who don't know))

15 RepliesEdited by GoldenArms27: 11/13/2014 12:20:15 AMOriginally it was pronounced "mine-oh-tar", because the myth of the Minotaur has its origins in the Greek city of Minos (mine-oss or mine-ose). However in the many many years since then, the pronunciation has been bastardized to "men-oh-tar". Either one of these is perfectly acceptable pronunciations, but the vast majority of Americans (I'm speaking as an American here), pronounce Minotaur with the "men" sound. So as long as someone is using one of these two pronunciations, there's no need to debate or correct them.

4 RepliesIt's pronounced the same as the mythical creature that's half man half bull or something like that. Min (like the abbreviation for minute) O (the letter O) Tar (as in a tar pit)
