Most of us assume that our hard-earned and painstakingly upgraded exotic weapons will somehow scale with the new items in DLC, and not become obsolete, e.g. by adding new upgrade slots. This was alluded to in a recent Bungie Update.
However, please do not overlook legendary raid weapons which are really special exotics which do not count as the one permitted exotic weapon, thus allowing you to use an exotic weapon at the same time as a raid legendary one.
When new DLC arrives and the level cap rises and perhaps new more powerful weapons are released, please ensure that legendary raid weapons like our beloved and hard-earned raid weapons -- Vision of Confluence, Atheon's Epilogue, etc -- are allowed to scale up along with exotics so we can continue to develop and use them!
UPDATE
Confirmed: our existing pre-DLC exotics can be upgraded using new exotic ascendant materials, so the DLC will not make them obsolete.
BUT the DLC will make our raid legendaries obsolete overnight when the game is updated for the DLC!
There is a new Exotic Weapon Core to update exotics to scale up with the DLC.
But your legendary weapons will become obsolete overnight!
Yet raid weapons ARE exotics in all but name! And they need to scale up in the same way. They have the unique perks that make a weapon exotic, and also the disadvantages that come with any exotic weapon (e.g. the perks being raid-specific).
UPDATE 2
Exotic armour has 30 light and unique perks. That is what makes it exotic. That is the difference. Guess what: it's the same with raid armour. Guess what: it's the same with raid weapons and exotic weapons.
Raid legendaries are self-evidently a special case on par with exotics.

1 ReplyI've just wrote a post very similar. My worry also. Don't want raid legandaries to be left behind. I love my VoC lol

Edited by a potato: 11/18/2014 4:11:12 PMI now have absolutely no motivation to seek or upgrade legendary weapons. This is classic "osbourne effect". The weapons take forever to get and more time and resources to level. There's absolutely zero point if their shelf life will be less than a few months. I have this thing called a life, so it actually takes a while to make legendaries viable once they're picked up. Why do it when the day they're upgraded they'll be immediately rendered useless?

2 RepliesEdited by BIGROB5573: 11/18/2014 9:33:26 AMThat's not going to happen. The whole idea is to get you to pay to compete. So everybody with the dlc can now buy their way to being better. They're not going to buff our raid weapons. That's why it's important not to buy the dlc. Because as I just said the dlc is for buying your way up. It really sucks that they're doing this
-
Don't think they will but most likely the old raid weapons will give a edge to players starting the new dlc since they are the strongest guns from old game. Like most mmo
-
so...are you saying that my Thorn will be getting a mega-buff because one moment I'm wrecking noobs in pvp and today it's just shooting peas at people

1 ReplyEdited by a potato: 11/18/2014 10:06:56 AMWow.. this is absolute bullcrap. They're going to be obsoleting 80% of the game's legendary weaponry while still maintaining that stupid limit of one exotic weapon/armor? What is wrong with the current system of all weapons being max 300 and level 20 and damage scaling with level? Why the heck when you have so many variant combinations of different stats on endgame weapons would you suddenly eliminate the vast majority of them? I'm glad I did not purchase the xpacs.

Wrote a post just like this as well... Bye Fatebringer....

BUT the DLC will make our raid legendaries obsolete overnight when the game is updated for the DLC! Bungie needs to make raid legendary weapons scale up to par in the post-DLC game! Raid legendary weapons are exotic weapons in all but name. We have all invested considerable time and effort in upgrading them to use alongside our one exotic slot. We will have nothing worth using in the other slots when we equip our existing exotics. This seems a serious oversight by Bungie.

7 RepliesI would assume the current raid weapons(solar and arc variants) will be useful in the dlc " normal raid", but negated beyond that. Will be(should be at least) cyclic as far as the raids go.
-
1 ReplyExotics maybe but the raid weapons have perks specific to that raid. This new raid will do the same I'm sure. Won't need a weapon that does bonus dmg to oracles or preaterians for the new types of enemies. I'll still use these weapons but new weapons will prolly come out and replace the old ones. At least for the raid they will
-
Never gonna happen. They want you to run the new raid and get the new stuff. Gotta keep chasing that carrot.
-
That's why I'm making sure the weapons I have now will still be useful for the next raid. Solar and arc weapons will be of great help for the raid. Even if they aren't the new weapons they will be very helpful.
-
Did all you whiney crybabies start doing the raid with fully leveled fatebringers and VoC? Nope. You played the game in hopes of getting new gear, just like you'll do in the new dlc. It's how it works. don't like it? Maybe CoD or MCC is the way for you. I hear you don't have to do much for your weapons and gear in that game.
-
4 RepliesThis is a worry. I hope they clarify this soon.
-
You do realize this is how every game with this loot model operates, right? You work for the "phat lewtz" just to have the new content come out a few months later with new and better "phat lewtz". It's not gonna change.
-
With my luck I'll get a VoC on December 8th and then the next day it'll be worthless T_T /signed good sir

2 RepliesEvidently I am not the only one who can foresee the danger that Bungie will overlook raid legendaries when scaling up exotics for the post-DLC game.
-
No reason to scale raid weapons. That's why the new raid will have better weapons and armor. I assume you never really played an mmo before cause if you have you would know that new content will give you better gear and weapons.
-
Good post and a very valid concern, OP. Bungie, please scale the Raid weapons alongside the Exotics when the new DLC hits. The Raid took a lot of work, and to have those Raid weapons just left behind simply because a new Raid comes out would just be in bad form. Letting the weapons upscale with the new DLC is the best option to keep those weapons valid. :)
-
Edited by Arkhangel: 11/14/2014 8:04:40 PMSorry but this is a normal part of a gaming progression, there will be an all new set of Raid legendary to covet, exotics do need to be up-gradable but that's it. There would be no point in getting the new versions if they scaled. I think they will be just fine to use on the easy raid till you can get some new upgrades in the new Raid.

1 ReplyYes let me keep using my seven vision of cornflakes
-
1 ReplyAgreed. I'd be lost without my VoC
-
Bump!
-
I suspect a lot of people just assume that their favourite gear will still be useful after the DLC. That is sadly not at all guaranteed.
-
Edited by daalnni: 11/12/2014 4:32:56 PMI was under the assumption that at least weapons would. They already do from 20 to 30 Exotic armor, not sure about that... It has light levels... Oh how i will miss knucklehead radar...
