also what happens when you open the past portal and the whole team goes trough it? maybe the door in the back opens? or you start the same bossfight just in the past or smth. same goes for future portal

i think in all honesty its time and space that Aetheon has control over. i know it looks like there are two portals, and a set of steps going up to the gate keepers. past present and future, but I dont know why everyone assumes they are entering the same space but at a different point in time? how do you know its not a different space and a different time?

It looks exactly the same just one forest and one desert. It also makes the most since with what you read from the grimoire. Atheon is trying to keep the relic from you so he sends it to the past/future.
