I've gotten a few exotics from mission rewards and a few from Xur. This weekend I got my first actual legendary drop (after several hundred hours of gameplay) and that legendary turned out to be an exotic.. So exited! I got hard light. I immediately tried it out. Not so impressed, I have a decent Auto Rifle already, shadow price fully upgraded. Is Hard light worth upgrading? Is it worth having an exotic stuck in your primary slot since you can only equip one exotic weapon?

If you have enough A. energy to waste, sure, why not? It's a decent gun, but for myself, I never use AR's outside Athaeon's Epilogue. The Hand Cannon (TDYK) and the Scout Rifle (Vision of Confluence) have superior power and kill time to waste effort on the AR's. That and I don't want to waste my Exotic spot with a gun that really has no advantage to it. that is saved for the Ice Breaker or Truth depending on the enemy.

Decent for close range gun and slap

To me, it's just a slightly better version of the other crappy exotic auto rifle (monte carlo) . As others have said the impact is really low, takes a while to kill anything with it.

3 RepliesNo, it's not

1 ReplyRead some of these comments. Seems like people are mixed on Hard Light. Personally I was disappointed. I thought it was kind of weak. It's in my vault right now because I have other primaries that just feel like they perform better. The combination of seriously short range and low impact just kills it for me. If a weapon forces you to be closer there should be a reward for doing so. I just don't see much of a reward with Hard Light. It's probably my favorite looking and sounding primary though.

No the gun is just terrible in pvp but for pve it's an ok choice if its the best you got

YES YES! OH MY GOD YES!!!

Hard Light is a weapon of skill and grace that deserves your time and attention. I maxed mine out and haven't regretted it since. It's beautiful in pve, especially against Cabal(they're so big!). It's not a range weapon, stay up close and personal. It's great in pvp as well, just watch out for fusion rifles and shotguns. It's also a great tool for the portal Oracles in the raid. Fits that range perfectly. I have a maxed Suros, Epilogue, and Grim Citizen(has since been dismantled). I've used all of them for Raiding and Crucible. If you're a close range player, Hard Light is the way to go. Many players prefer Suros because it's an easier to use weapon with greater range, but I say you go for it anyway. The only reason I don't use Hard Light all the time is because I love my Hawkmoon so damn much!

Ok thanks guys. You are echoing what my thoughts were. The recoil does suck and it is underpowered. I saw the perfect balance perk and thought hmm. Do I spend the time to level it and see if it's useful. I'll prolly lvl it out but I doubt I'll spend any ascendant materials on it. Prolly gonna end up scrap. Unless they give us a storage increase. Such an unfitting fate for my only exotic drop in hundreds of hours of gameplay :(

I think this gun is better than most of my heavy machine guns. it's a great pve suppression gun. The highest perk which allows you to over penetrate enemies AND have bullets bounce off walls is ideal for shooting into large groups of people. The lack of stability actually helps in this regard. To my knowledge, it has the highest impact of any of the high rate of fire guns. It's just great!

Its "meh" Mine is leveled, and I deem it "muh" Its bouncy, ricochet bullets is not really all that handy, but it does look cool....
-
Yes very much so

The stability completely sucks when you first get it, I couldn't even use it in the crucible but once you put on perfect balance it makes a huge difference now its the only thing I use and this is coming from someone who hates high rate of fire auto rifles.

It's worth leveling for dealing with trash mobs and pvp (if you can handle the recoil. It does get a recoil upgrade that is decent) that raid fire with over penetration murders thrall mobs and clustered enemies. I just think it's a damn cool gun though. Maybe it will be buffed with the upcoming exotic buffs, it still is shit compare to some legendarys and regime

Edited by TheMighty3X: 11/10/2014 8:09:31 PMIf your Shadow Price has the Field Scout perk that doubles it's mag size, then stick with that for now. But that being said, I have 4 of the 6 top Auto Rifles (Shadow Price, Vanquisher, Hard Light & Suros Regime) maxed out, and Hard Light is probably the most fun to use of them all because of it's perks. When you unlock it's 2 stability upgrades it becomes the best "bullet hose" AR in the game (better even than Atheon's Epilouge), and when you have Volatile Light unlocked you have the ultimate crowd control weapon. It's over-penetrating rounds have zero drop off at effective range with the perk so you're shredding through gaggles of enemies like a meat grinder. Also, what other exotics do you have? Personally the only two Exotic special/heavy weapons I'd main are either IceBreaker or Gjallahorn. If you don't have one of those, you can afford to main Hard Light.
