I feel sorry for the Gunsmith. Standing behind that counter all day. Nothing to do. No one to talk to. (Except maybe a lvl 8 character) maybe the occasional Exotic Bounty lead.
A couple of my ideas:
Allow him to upgrade weapon levels. The Stranger's rifle is cool, but at lvl 16 it lacks punch. What if I could upgrade it to 17, 18, 20? 300 attack on the Khovostov? Think about it!
Allow him to change the elemental effect Let me take a rocket launcher that I like. Maybe its one that upgrades to the triple clip but it's only a lvl 18 with Arc damage. I could use my glimmer to get it to 20 and then change it to Void.
The fact is I don't even care if it's expensive. Give me (and the Gunsmith) something to do with my marks and glimmer. I'd pay 5000 to level it up. I'd pay the same to change the elemental. And I don't know if glimmer is the best fit for upgrade currency, the developers know best on that one, but let's put this guy to work again.
I hope he's on salary, cause if he's getting paid by the hour, bungie, you need to let him go.
Update: After the House of Wolves Twitch reveal some of the most requested stuff will become reality! Thanks Bungie!
Reforging weapon perks- Check!
Legendary weapon Engram
Vendor reputation level
Weapon Telemetries- Check!

Great idea, but i think that this could also possibly tie into the outfitter as well... imagine this: A system that may cost glimmer, strange coins, motes of light, and/or materials, etc. whatever is deemed necessary or fair to create our own shaders. For instance, if bungie were to incorporate a type of crafting system that will allow players to spend glimmer on solid colors (red, pink, green, etc) for a base color on gaunlets/boots/chest/helmet but all pieces of armor may be customized (blue helmet, green chest, pink gaunlets, etc). Then the user can also chose to spend strange coins or motes of light for accent colors, to add trim to the character (black facemask with the blue helmet, blue gloves with the pink gaunelts, etc). OR using the strange coins and motes of light to choose different patterns like camouflage, checkered, pinstripe, two tone, pearlescent, glowing, shining, radiance, etc. These effects and colors could be applied to different parts of the armor to let the player show creativity and variety in the shader. At the end of every week, bungie then can have anywhere from 1-10 of these man made shaders added to the outfitter for sale. What do you guys think?

I know so sad that he becomes redundant after lvl 16.
-
Making him more usefull than selling ammo synths would be cool. Give him his own faction and legendary guns with his logo on it that he makes and he sells like a FRIGGIN GUNSMITH DOES

Edited by Lamb: 11/10/2014 7:46:35 PMCrafting. This will mean making big changes to the way the weapon loot system works. Additional Drops: - weapon frame - stabiliser - barrel - stock - trigger mechanism - sight - skin - golden age module Each available in green, blue, purple and yellow diagrams. Each diagram must be identified by the gunsmith and the perks and values on each piece should be determined by RNG. Identifying diagrams should upgrade the gunsmith and higher levels should give higher level/better perks. On a more technical level... The main weapon frame should have an overall 'points' value. Each additional component added to the weapon uses up some of these points. The scarcer the component, the more points used by it. This will prevent completely overpowered builds. Breaking up weapons aquired from engrams and drops should have a chance to yield a component from that weapon. This chance should be higher for legendaries and exotics. I'm thinking 50% for legendaries and 75% for exotics. Golden age modules should be very rare drops which add a guaranteed perk. They should also be obtainable from breaking down exotics and legendaries.

Just make him a hot chick with big tits.
-
Make him sell gjallarhorn for 25,001 glimmer. Everyone will freak but only make it to 25,000. Trolololol
-
Bungie could make us earn a certain coin somehow, with that coin we can go to the gunsmith and he will turn a legendary 1.0 weapon of choice in to a 2.0 one!! Even if u could just do that one time would be cool, so if u have this one favourite gun that u love u can keep it up to date...
-
Right now he's more dealer then Gunsmith. Game Informer had an articular about Destiny. It had something about weapon customization , You could change stats / looks of a weapon . Why was this left out of the game ? I would pay to change out things like Zen Moment for Return to Sender ( that's a helpful primary ability mod ). what about even a full customized weapon ? Willing to pay Ascendant Energy. So - YES PLEASE UPGRADE THE GUNSMITH !?!?!
-
Agreed, Only thing he is good for is the Pocket Infinity Bounty lol
-
Why did they give xur the upgrade exotics? Why not gunsmith? This is poor for that poor gunsmith. ( sorry for all the poors)

-
Omg! Brain storm! Let him actually sell lvl 20 weapons! Maybe even blue lvl 20s?! Na that's crazy, lvl 16 greens are fine.
-
Aesthetic mods (transmog) or say he has readily available special missions (bounties) where you can bring it back with your Khostov, some energies, weapon parts and glimmer an have it upgraded to legendary with an RNG roll for perks.
-
An incredible amount of bumpage going on here.
-
He's plenty relevant to me. I have to spend my Glimmer on something when I hit 25000, I have a shiat ton of ammo packs.
-
Edited by Whiskerknot: 12/7/2014 11:39:35 PMHow about a quest so we can change one of the perks on our weapons to one of our choosing or even a rare perk normally reserved for exotics and raid gear. Likely involves bringing him crate loads of rare versions of a particular weapon.
-
Let him sell rare fusion rifles more often :)
-
An exotic Khovostov would be awesome
-
He should be able to change the perks on your weapon for lets say 5000 glimmer per perk
-
Honestly I'd completely forgotten he existed. So much wasted potential in the tower...
-
Have him sell the exotic shards and exotic weapon upgrade for the raid instead of Xur.
-
Like in another post Exotic upgrades should be left to the Gunsmith he can have random upgrades that last until reset but you still have to wait for xur for exotic shards. Then again this would be too logical and convenient for bungie to consider. The bungie company motto: If your idea is not wasting enough of the players time STFU! and come up with one that does!
-
Give him a rep level that increases when you give him guns instead of dismantling them. Reforge weapons. Change elemental dmg on non primary weapons. Weapon shaders.
-
I think if they added the build your weapon option to the gunsmith it would make him more interesting. For example: Incorporate exotic bounties into dealing with the gunsmith. Say your doing an exotic bounty, it would require you to collect each piece of the weapon the exotic bounty guarantees, but you have to see the gunsmith to assemble the weapon piece by piece and for a price. Another idea for him would be to create your own weapon for a price by buying the certain aspects and pieces of the gun you want on the weapon. A list of pieces/perks would be things such as; Perks we can choose from to put on our weapons, limit of 2 like most weapons have now. Perks might be; reload speed, active camo, increased damage, rapid fire, targets explode dealing splash damage, tracking rounds, etc. Camo/shaders for the weapon Weapon attachments; extended mag, silencers, iron to long range sights, grenade launchers, laser sights, foregrips, different stocks, etc. Choice to add elemental damage types such as; arc, fire, void, acid, explosive, frost, etc. The ability to reforge or reroll stats on current weapons for a price and a one time change. Lastly a suggestion, but I don't see it happening sockets for weapons/armor to add elemental stats or bonus base stats.
-
Right now he can be made relevant by simply continuing the upgrade tree on the exotics without resetting them. Maybe reset the last three in the tree but not the progress itself
-
Gets my vote. More weapon upgrades and customising the better. It would be great if you could somehow pick the weapon weapon perks you want from the available pool after a suitable amount (probably a lot) of grinding. The majority of purple items I don't want and have no interest in owning, but if I could put the attributes and perks on them that I want - that would be something worth putting serious time into. And if Bungie read this I'll tell you something you already know. Serious time = addiction and $$$$$
