Then there is calm at the beginning of halo2 and the chief has his armour upgraded and so probably a shower, -blam!- and a shave as well. Halo 3 takes place pretty much straight after halo 2 so that couldnt have been more then 5-6 days [/quote]Ya know, you're exactly right....totally didn't even take that into account....o well :P

His helmet doesn't grow hair. Duh.

Master Chief's armor has to be taken off and put back on by technicians....it's almost impossible for a Spartan to put on his own armor. However, before the final attack on Reach there is a span of a few days where John is at the facility along with all the other surviving Spartans (minus 3) and they are not in armor. They are in dress uniform awaiting their next mission briefing and what-not. Shortly thereafter they are refitted with new armor so it stands to reason that between missions and any time their armor is upgraded then the armor is removed and they get a shave, haircut, etc.

John 117 has short brown hair if not completely bald. He also has very pale skin from spending so long in the MJOLNIR armor, a gap-toothed smile, and a few freckles. Read The Fall Of Reach and you can get a pretty good idea what he looks like from his description as a young boy.
