I think everyone noticed by now that "Playing" is actually a tiny portion of end game content because finding a team for raid or even nightfall strikes takes longer than activity itself. I suggest matchmaking is implemented as an optional feature (so people can do solo if they chose) for ALL cooperative high level content that does not support this feature right now.
As Red Frog suggested the matchmaking could be triggered by fireteam privacy setting, so people could create custom teams.
CplL4ncer suggested a hub in the tower for fireteam creation.
I'm hoping this post gains some attention and hopefully Bungie implements it.

I think this is a good idea once the content reaches it's last month of life (before it is replaced by DLC in other words). I'd be fine with VoG matchmaking now, everyone that is too socially awkward to go to a very well made website and look for a group can get grouped in matchmaking and finally realize for themselves why a group of 6 mic-less people aren't going to be able to get very far in it. You can also have fun with people leaving the group every time you wipe and having to search for another player every 5 minutes. I won't be using it, and I hope it isn't implemented at the launch of new endgame content, but I would like to see it added for content that has been around for a while just so you guys can see how awful of an idea it is.
