Destiny 2 - How Will It Work?

Hi, Appreciate there probably won't be an answer to this but as one of the 9.5Million people logging into the game for more then 3 hours a day I wanted to ask how is Destiny 2 going to fit into the current landscape. Destiny was described as have a 10 year plan. I like many assumed this would mean that we would get 10 years of updates, expansions etc... like all other MMO's do, you know like there has never been a World of Warcraft 2. A lot of time is being spent by people investing in characters which by the sounds of it won't be of much use when an actual sequel is launched. I am assuming this because if your going to go to all the effort of making a full blown sequel you will need to cater for both new players and existing players. WOW for example would do these by adding more extensions? I've paid over the odds for Destiny, my choice to support a game I like. I got a season pass included so I've paid for that as well, each DLC costing roughly half the cost of the original game but only adding a tenth of the content. So what is Destiny 2, a massive expansion pack for Destiny or a new game for all? If it is the later I'm just not going to stop and move onto something else.

          • I see it working as such: The core gameplay remains similar. But Bungie will add the things they know players are clamoring for. Space battles, player personal housing(ie ship interior with your collectibles on display etc), larger and more open world space to explore. Yes it will likely mean new characters from scratch, but who knows? Maybe it'll just take your existing characters and import them or some such thing.

            • Probably adding on the most wanted features that they can't put into Destiny now for whatever reason. Probably will do something like ME where you can either take previous characters in or start from scratch.

            • It would be a good guess IMO that existing gamers will be able to bring the characters they have already built into the new game. I would further guess some weapons or armor will not be able to be used in the new game, like raid gear and exotics.. knocked back to a lvl 29 and starting the new story from there. This gives the advantage to the current gamer while the new gamer must work to get characters up to the lvl 29+ standard.

            • it would kinda be crazy if we couldn't keep our characters after all the work we've put into them!

            • It's a very interesting question isn't it? On one hand a new game gives the developers a chance to redo their engines and add significantly new functionality, especially once Bungie thinks it's feasible to move fully into the new generation. On the other, bridging the gap between new and old would help to unite the player base, and would our characters just transfer over with everything or would we have to make new Guardians? Can they sustain the endgame over the course of ten years? I'm not a Bungie Employee, but they're excellent questions to think about :)
