Microsoft themselves wouldn't let something like that happen or even Sony for that matter. They want everyone to buy their new console so allowing people to play back forth would be counter productive to that goal. Damn greed. I don't even know if something like this would even be possible tho. Are there any games that have been able to do this in the past? The architecture for the old gen/next gen may be way too different. :(

Maybe for Microsoft but Sony does this all the time with cross buy (purchases) and cross-play =D check it out on playstation: http://faq.en.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9205/~/cross-play-on-ps-vita-faq's https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3823/~/ps-vita-cross-platform-play

  • Wow. I actually didn't know Sony did that. I've always thought it would be a great idea but the general misconception was that the newer generation systems were too different to support sharing content with one another on the same servers. Learn something new everyday. Lol

Yep DC Universe Online does it along with a nice selection of other games plus a few newer ones that haven't come out like HellDivers (which will have PS3, Vita and PS4 Cross-play). Even Destiny's dev Wolfson said this from the following article: http://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/for-bungie-straddling-four-consoles-in-destiny-was-a-balancing-act/#!bhR9PK
This isn’t a product of some technical dilemma; it’s about preserving the experience for everyone. “I’ll speak for the hypothetical player,” Wolfson explains. “I have a disadvantage sniping across the map because [my opponent with a next-gen console] is only two pixels on my screen and I’m four pixels on his. You see that in the world of PC gaming, where people are always racing to the best video card to give themselves the advantage.”
He mentioned that it's not a technical dilemma just a matter of preference. And that preference in my opinion only applies to PVP in Crucible not the rest of the game. So just prevent players from playing Crucible in cross play but not the rest of the game.

  • That's pretty sweet. I agree I think it would be reasonable for pve. It would allow me to play with a lot of my friends that haven't gotten an xb1 yet. I never thought it was that possible. Plus I'm a rather cynical individual and always figured companies would never let it happen simply to slowly force people to buy their new consoles. But I'm pleased to hear Sony does this with some games. I've never heard of Microsoft doing it. I usually wind up getting both consoles eventually when I save up enough money. So this will be one more reason to get a ps4.

Yeah I mean Bungie even lets you play your PS3 character on PS4 and back and forth because it's stored on their server. Same can be said for Xbox360 and Xboxone Characters. They just don't let them play together so imo, why not? I think Microsoft is just neglecting there Xbox360 users to force Xbone purchases which is not fair. Sony on the other hand is pretty open to the idea as long as a dev is willing to support the concept. Thus the reason why not all games are cross play but some are. I mean Bungie is even supporting this until January: http://www.destinythegame.com/digital-upgrade
