You are correct, sir! It's because the word comes from a (north) germanic language, which generally has this rule. Also, English is, in fact, a "germanic" language (east germanic), but defies this rule because it's a linguistic special duck. Which is why the OP went for some other pronunciation. Go Indoctrin!
