I just had something pretty amazing happen earlier. I was doing tiger strikes with random people and one game, of of them invited me to a party. I joined and invited the 3rd person in our strike as well. (We were all solo and randomly matched)
The person who invited me first was a girl, but the other guy in the lobby thought she was just a little boy with a squeaky voice, so he was talking to her like one for a while until he realized otherwise, and then he went AFK to go do something downstairs and we continued the strike with him in the back.
While he was gone, the girl was talking to me asking questions about myself to which I answered broadly to most of them. When she asked me where I lived, I just said Texas. She said she lived in Texas too, so she asked me to be more specific, then I found out we lived in the same city...the same county...and WENT TO THE SAME SCHOOL. I had never actually met her in real life, but apparently this random stranger from strike matchmaking goes to the same school as me.
It gets even better, after we finished the strike, she had to go, and the 3rd guy didn't come back yet. I went to the tower and after a while I heard him get back on the mic. I told him "Omg dude, that girl that was in our game, apparently she goes to [school name] just like I do."
He paused for a moment, recognizing the name of the school, then asked me "Wait, do you live in [city name], Texas?"
And then I found out that this guy lived in the SUBDIVISION ACROSS FROM MINE!!! He didn't go to my school, but still...
I was completely mindblown by this. I rarely meet people from the same state as me on xbox, but what are the chances that 3 strangers doing tiger strikes with random matchmaking end up LIVING WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE FROM EACH OTHER? I was already speechless when one of them turned out to be going to the same school as me, but holy shit all 3 of us in the same area?

116 RepliesGet her number and date her until you get kicked out of the strike and receive the error code "broken rubber." On Friday, ChildXûrth, Agent of the Nine Months, will sell you an engram that becomes an exotic foetus (not even for your class) and now you have to grind a lot of Crucible to rank up Dad Orbit (not typo) to help upgrade your new exotic item. Just pray to RNGesus that your fireteam member becomes a Vex MILFoclast.

So... Did you end up blowing the guy?

You know what to do OP

If this isn't fake, games are matched through the closer you are, the more likely you're paired. Either way, this is veryveryveryvery unlikely
-
You know you've read too much /nosleep when you thought this was gonna be a scary story... sigh xD

Xbox pairs you with people close to you to give the optimal connection. It sucks for things like the bungie bounties because unless you live in northwest you got 0 chance to match them. This is why you see GT with your area code and such alot in the tower. Xbox prioritizing matching people close to each other for optimal performance on servers.

OMG. Dear penthouse, I never thought I would be writing to you, but this one day, at band camp...
-
The servers tend to group people who are close together. I did two tiger strikes yesterday with people who lived in neighboring cities to me that I've played sports with. On guy was my ultimate frisbee teammate from a tournament the weekend before

Everything is bigger in Texas. Including coincidences.

the servers tend to group people by locations it seems at times? I've run into quite a few people living within my vicinity.

6 RepliesI ran into my ex boyfriend this way once. It was fun to kill him repeatedly.

Edited by OkamiToge: 11/5/2014 11:19:35 AMI don't see how this has anything to contribute about the game. edit: Then again this is one of the most disappointing games I've ever played, and this thread has nothing to do with it so yeah.

11 RepliesYou should refrain from speaking to people on the mic about non-game related things for two reasons: 1) predators could be online trying to determine where you live. 2) nothing's cooler than the silent knight that makes the top scores and leaves without uttering a word.

3 RepliesDestiny pairs you to people in your area pal.

I was in a random pickup group for a raid last week that I put together on the forums with 3 dudes that ended up all living in the same town, and two of them lived one apartment building away from each other, it was awesome to listen to them figure it all out! Small world, great post :) -
Math is easy if you know the right numbers. Whatever the surface area of earth is and however many exact people there are. Within walking distance is a certain amount of sq footage. I'm sure somebody could do the math.

LOL I thought this might be about GTAV and how they have a FPS mode that looks better than Destiny =) My bad.

Reppin the great Lone Star State........WOOT WOOT!!!!!!!!!

Let us know when you get -blam!- by a cougar.

Just an PSA: the way match making works is it links you with people closest to you even in the tower they try and match you with people near you. Countless times I've seen names of people that have my city name I live in and gone solo strikes only to be matched with people around upstate New York

That's RNG for ya.

I'm from Texas. Austin by any chance?
