I can do just as much damage, if not more, using a sniper. Throw in the fact that Xur sells icebreaker, and even the solar damage of golden gun is entirely useless. I personally think it needs a damage buff to make it useful against bosses, majors, and ultras. At least let it do critical hits.
Thoughts?

Bump! and with everyone agreeing with you, I agree with them too. You all make good points. I kinda don't use my golden gun anymore.
-
3 RepliesGG is not for bosses, not one Super is for high damage output on a boss. Every Super is for Crowd Control not Bosses. The Super is meant to be used as support for yourself, not the main source of damage output. GG doesn't need a buff, and it has nothing to do with PvP. I've played a Gunslinger since Alpha, GG is fine.
-
2 RepliesHunters get to have incredibly crappy pve supers because of how super good they are in pvp. That is balance for you.
-
GG needs like a 1000% damage buff. Already one shots in PvP so, might as well.
-
Edited by SoTKyle: 11/4/2014 2:17:48 PMAll it really needs is a PVE damage buff or to be able do precision damage. Plus I don't like how you have to select an upgrade to make the throwing knife do solar damage, it should already do solar damage, like the abilities of every other sub-class

Yeah, my non-maxed Ice Breaker crits for almost 3000 and my Golden Gun does about 1400 on average. I only use it on the oracles in the raid. Before the Atheon teleport "fix", I was part of the away team, and I'd save a super from Time's Vengeance to take care or the first four oracles. That way, the third away team member could help the relic holder with the adds. Then we'd all three just mop up the remaining oracles together. Now if I don't get teleported, I save it for when the away team is about to come through the portal to clear the immediate area of Supplicants. Other than that, my normal weapons have higher DPS, so it rarely gets used in PvE.

1 ReplyHm, let's see. All damage supers become less useful in the higher levels in general. Enemies get more health. Just the way it is. Fist of havoc and nova bomb are equally effective. But for those two you have to actually get close to do the bulk of your damage. For golden gun you can stand far back and still hit for the same damage. Golden gun wasn't made to kill supplicants, as only having 3 shots clearly proves. It's made for singling out a target, and hitting it for as much damage as possible. That's where it excels at. Plus, classes aren't all about the supers. Each class gets unique abilities on top of their super. Those abilities will usually tell you what type of play style you should be using for this class
-
The only time it's useful in the entire raid is for supplicants on Atheon. I can just about solo all the supplicants with proper golden gun rotations. Other than that it's pretty useless unless you're in a sticky situation on confluxes.

Yes buff it i never use it because its useless

Edited by Technomancer: 11/4/2014 12:38:57 PMYeah, i tend to agree with OP, It should at least deal precision damage. As of now i only use my super for large tight groups of weak enemies or catching them running from a spawn. (it's set to cause them to explode on death.) And thats about all it's good for... Granted i can generate between 5-10 orbs (Lupii Alpha chestplate) but other than feeding other people's supers it's near useless in PVE.. (well not useless, but VERY situational) But i'm not griping, at least it's not like Blade Dancing on a Lightswitch mission.

3 RepliesNo offensive super is good in pve. Foh and novabomb is useless as well. Why should they buff the hunter? Maybe your 3rd subclass will be defensive.

I personally think it needs a damage buff to make it useful against bosses, majors, and ultras. At least let it do critical hits. Thoughts?
It needs a big buff. I hate both of my hunters supers tbh. Keep in mind i dont pvp much so in speaking solely for pve. In pve i either get a worthless sword that cant damage that boss because ill die instantly (because ontop of crappy pve supers we are ultra squishy) or i get a golden handgun that you have to aim carefully and when you do so your damage to, say, a boss is miniscule compared to what you could have done to it if you just used your exotic or whatever. I think since we're hunters and supposed to be precise that our golden gun should be a golden sniper rifle for a super and have only 1 shot and do way better damage. Also since it would be a sniper it would have built in penetration already and already explode targets upon death. People also wouldn't complain in pvp either since you only get one shot. Heres the thing. People are afraid of buffs to hunters because of pvp only. If bungie could separate the two a little better then there would be no issue. But ive been thinking about this for some time. Id rather it be a sniper with built passives. Any thoughts?

GG is pretty damn shitty in PvE, barely hits as hard as your average sniper rifle with non crits. I think the gun should at least be doing damage close to that of a rocket launcher for the fact that it has little to no splash damage, its range is absolute shit and you can't score crits with it.
-
4 Repliesgolden gun one shots everything and the titans shield, your doing something wrong obviously, or dont have the armor piece that gives you an extra gun shot
-
It helps a lot when you have an exotic helmet my friend
-
Golden gun is my go to for killing the pretorion in the venus portal on the hard mode Raid, and if I don't get teleported 2 shots and I'm free from detain.

Edited by CLlP THAT: 11/4/2014 4:05:52 AMI agree the no crit is retarded.
-
4 RepliesBlade dancer is worse in PvE. In high tier missions, anything is likely to one or two shot melee you. Can't even use your super right.
-
Needs a severe damage buff.
-
since GG one hits in pvp already, giving it precision dmg wouldn't be a problem for pvp/pve compatibility
-
5 RepliesI beg to difer! Its actually great against some majors or ultras. Helped me alot during the Phogoth Nightfall. AND if there is solar burn bonus then GG. Also from 4 shots I usually shit out 8 orbs lol.

19 RepliesEdited by SaferMurderweapon: 11/4/2014 6:27:10 PMIn PvP it's pretty much perfect so I see no reason to mess with the damage considering how Bungie handled many weapons like the Mythoclast. The reason why Golden Gun is underpowered is because gunslinger is mostly made up of mediocre abilities such as deadeye and over the horizon. There are many perks that need to be done away with and replaced and should be part of abilities in the first place. Basically, gunslinger was poorly designed. For example: Over the horizon. Golden Gun shouldn't have falloff. It's a super. So why is it here? Maybe Bungie ran out of ideas like they did with the throwing knife when they threw in Circle of Life or Deadeye for GG. Throwing knife should also deal incendiary damage to begin with and 2x throwing knife needs to go under throwing knife as should over the horizon. They could make OTR increase velocity and distance of throwing knife because it's useless as a GG ability. Great PvP skill right there. As for Golden Gun, here are some ideas for abilities... Gamble Draw: Golden Gun only has 1 shot but does massive damage (which would go great with Achlyophage Symbiote) Trigger Happy: Golden Gun has unlimited ammo but does reduced damage and depletes super gauge much faster. Unload: Upon activation, empties golden gun at a high fire rate automatically. Boosts activation speed of golden gun. (can be used as a panic super and would feel very much like Nova Bomb as a super or The Last Word being hipfired full auto. Would work well with Trigger Happy) Sunburst: Increases explosive effects of abilities such as combustion and the blast radius of grenades. (Tripmine or Swarm anyone? Maybe explosive throwing knife?) Deadeye: Golden Gun has increased accuracy AND does extra precision damage. Hopefully Bungie adds in more abilities such as these in future DLCs. Considering all the abilities on other classes and the creativity Bungie has shown us in the past, I don't see why abilities such as this aren't already in the game aside from them running out of time.

Titans fist of havoc is also useless vs bosses and majors/ultras in high level pve, because you havve to go close quarters and then go back. i think that nova bomb is most useful against bossess and then golden gun. Rest just should be spent on other targets.
I personally think it needs a damage buff to make it useful against bosses, majors, and ultras. At least let it do critical hits. ?
This is your problem .. It's not for killing those. It is simply for killing adds to generate orbs for your team, or if solo, to get you out of a sticky situation of a horde of thralls you weren't prepared for etc.
