Xur and Engram Decodes

While I do find it frustrating for potential legendary engrams to be rare most of the time, to purchase an exotic engram from Xur as a hunter and it decode for a warlock is just wrong. It was not labeled as a warlock class item only, like other items, and to play and save up Motes of Light and Strange Coin to be given almost a bait and switch is just again wrong. I read the forum titled "I accidentally dismantled an item I wanted to keep, how do I get it back?", and I understand how many things cannot be reversed, especially because of player error, but I did not choose an item not for my class. While it is a minor issue in the grand scheme of the game, the excitement of my first exotic item was quickly dissipated.

  • Legendary and exotic armor output from any engram is for a random class. This is noted in the tooltip for any engram capable of producing these armor tiers. Engrams are a lottery system. You can put the item in the vault for use by an alt, or break it down for ascendant shards.

      • Legendary engrams will not produce rares after the patch.

      • When you take the engram to Master Rahool, the Cryptarch, and hover your selector over the engram, there is a Possible Contents section under the description. It reads: Possible Contents: Exotic (Random Class). Hopefully this helps. Engrams usually aren't the way to go, I would suggest waiting for Xur to bring the item you want, then spend all those Strange Coins you've been saving up.

      • Also, legendary engrams can no longer be rare items. It was in the first or second patch.
