Xur, and why he's here
[i]Since my response to a post raging about Xur got a lot of positive feedback, I would like to make it a separate discussion.[/i]
In regards to Xur and the loot system.
The overall loot system has little to do with patience and "earning" your gear, it has to do with luck.
People say it takes patience for raid gear. I'm proof it doesnt. I had the entire raid set by my 3rd raid. ( 2 on normal 1 on hard ). While it's taken some of my team 15+ raids
I earned the [b]chance[/b] to obtain gear by raiding and got a lucky dice roll. I did not earn the gear, I just earned the chance to obtain it.
Xur is what brings even a little consistency to the game by offering actual gear for your time played. So no matter how many bad luck rolls you get, your time will eventually be worth something in the game.
Exotics are about prioritizing that equipment slot, one exotic above another in order to optimize your overall performance, not flaunting that you got lucky while others did not.
By others having access to the same gear you do, it levels the playing field to be measured by skill and choice instead of being measured by who got lucky and who did not.
Unless the item system got completely reworked, [i]which I would hope to see happen no matter how unlikely[/i], then Xur is necessary to maintain a somewhat healthy game state for everyone rather than the lucky few.
Xur selling exotics that happen to drop in the raid doesn't make the raid pointless, especially since an engram from a level 7 Dreg can have the same results as a chest in the vault in terms of exotic items; all raid gear still remains exclusive to the raid.
Let's hear your thoughts.

I think Xur should have his own set of exotics that he sells, completely unobtainable from any other source in the game. That way, people can still get their exotics they want while the others who got theirs through the raid, nightfall, or legendary engrams (exotics shouldn't even drop anywhere else) can feel satisfied too.

Another thought...Nightfall is pretty hard and a potential reward is a bunch of strange coins. How can Xur be welfare if the currency he requires is a potential reward from one of the harder challenges in the game? I also find myself ridiculously excited about XurDay (Friday). it's like Christmas every week. I wake up a half hour earlier on Friday to log on and see what Santa Xur brought for Xurday before i get ready for work. I love that feeling of excitement and think it was a great addition for this reason alone.

Xur should sell every exotic weapon and armor 24/7 because RNG and cryptarch are horrible. Sorry to tell you, but casual players decide the fate of a game and right now Destiny's isn't looking too good. There is no earning in Destiny, just dumb luck and even dumber elitist gamers.

There is nothing to think about with the game as it sits. No depth to the gear, the strats, the development. Nothing real ( i use real loosely) to make you feel a bit different from the other warlocks in the same raid gear with the same specs.(hunters and titans included) Everything ties into each other. If the loot system was reworked then you would need more challenging content. If the content was more challenging, you would need more, less challenging content for casual players. Which brings us back to Content. Everything in this game is limited by its simplicity. Simple is not always best.

1 ReplyI'll put my two cents in. I have terrible internet. To the point the game is unplayable with friends. Or people in the vicinity. And don't get me started on the fifteen baboons I get from trying to access the tower for thirty seconds at a time. Nonetheless. I help as much as I can before I get booted in Nightfalls with my friends. If the mentality of "I earned this because I got this exotic from RNG and not Xur", that means I "earned" my Thunderlord last time after being kicked and joining five seconds before my friends killed Valus? Makes total sense guys. Yup. Earned Thunderlord. 12/10.

Gear and exotics are earned through labor, killing and killing, chance and luck goes along with the definition of earning. If your'e a pro gambler, you know that chance is everything but you earn your winning with time. Stop letting stupid -blam!-ing people make trending threads on here simply because they got lucky or because someone thinks luck isnt always earning.

1 ReplyTo extend the comparison a bit, I personally wish he sold Engrams rather than specific weapons, with only a few definite armor pieces. Also wish he sold Legendary Engrams, when it comes to that.

To people saying that they felt like getting an exotic in a drop the day before Xur sold it felt like a waste of time or something to that effect, why not take comfort in the fact that you didn't have to spend your hard earned coins?

I really don't care what xur sells. We all grind in one way or another. Some people do the weekly heroic strike to earn their coins and others get lucky doing stirkes or raids. Yesterday, I was blessed by the rng gods and got the truth and hardlight from a chest and 2 pieces of raid gear. We were all using the ice breaker and it made killing the gatekeeper so easy.

1 ReplyI agree completely. I personally have been lucky but i have friends where its clear they get less and there are some who just get screwed. Random just doesnt work. That means some will be rewarded over abundantly and other will get nothing. There has to be a more guaranteed reward system. Xur helps the unfortunate. Most people are just so selfish and by some delusional reasoning think they "earned" a random drop.

Also I like how people say exotics need to be rarer then legendaries. Do people even know what the word exotic means? "Exotic: attractive or striking due to color or appearance; of a kind not used for ordinary purpose." Exotics don't need to be more rare then a legendary, they just need to be distinctive, as a result there's no harm in people having access to them via an exotic shop.

4 RepliesI don't think RNG is completely random. What are the odds that I get time breaker and helmet 3 times in a row? Any game were you could potentially not get anything ever needs to be reworked. Keep it random but make it so the items you've already acquired are a little more difficult to drop. I see too many people who get nothing but boots or gloves or chest. All of this wouldn't be so bad if you could trade one of your duplicates.

I think that all primary exotics should only be obtainable through bounties. But that's just me. I love thorn because I feel like I really had to work to complete that bounty. Also not very many people use it, because they can't seem to find the critoris, but I can, I find it every time.
