Activision confirming only THREE new story missions in Dark Below

Main points of the article: - Drops Dec 9th - There will be new weapons and armor, including legendaries and exotics, and five additional Bounty slots. - The Dark Below will also introduce three new competitive multiplayer maps: Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron. - Those on PlayStation platforms will gain access to an additional cooperative Strike dubbed The Undying Mind and more as an exclusive until Fall 2015. - In The Dark Below, a new character Eris will arrive at the Tower to deliver an ominous warning: that The Hive plans to summon a powerful god, Crota, to destroy Earth - The Dark Below will raise the maximum Light Level to 32 - One new Raid: Crota's End So a few thoughts. 1. Three new story missions? Thats it? 2. There is ONE new strike and it is an exclusive until 2015 for PS4? Edit: it has been clarified that there are likely two strikes one is exclusive. Still one new strike for xbox is not enough. Well I said I needed to see what the DLC was going to offer. Apparently the "additional bounty capacity" DeeJ mentioned yesterday is pay for content as well. I'll keep playing with my kids, but otherwise I am done. It's not likely they will need this DLC before they are bored with Destiny as well. I don't think you withheld content anymore Bungie. I just think your game was no where near ready and you pushed out a shell to meet a contract obligation with Activision. It's been an utterly underwhelming ride of broken promises and terrible community relations.

I'm sorry, I've defended Destiny's story to quite a few people, happen to think it isn't as bad as everyone makes it up. But ONLY if grimoire is taken into account and you actually listen to Dinklebot. I think it was a terrible way to actually TELL the story but the story itself is okay. But enough is enough, in my eyes, 1/3 of the price should result in 1/3 of the original content especially if they can re-use initial designs, mobs, planets. How many stories were there, 20? This is literally 60% of the story missions of ONE PLANET, really? I would expect double that in story missions, and strikes, and multi maps, and bounties, items, quests. Or some equivalent, e.g. I don't need a million more weapons, what I would replace that with is skin customization. But this is nowhere near 1/3 of the content of the original game. Also Bungie, having random people talking to you telling you to go pick up robot cores, or wires, or go stand in a cave for a while is not what a quest should be...Take WoW as an example, don't worry that it's a true MMORPG, I'm focusing on the content only, would you say that the original WoW, without any DLC or updates, had more or less content than Destiny? I wouldn't expect to finish the game in 12 hours that's for sure. Did other games somehow have some magic that meant that their quests didn't have to be 'kill x and go to y'? What about named mobs with stories, buildings with lore behind it, QUESTLINES?! We've had the industry ability for progressive instanced content (deathknight content WoW, years ago). The world could have changed, we could have left an effect on it, we only have like 11 other guardians around us anyway on patrol so it's not like we'd notice other people aren't where we are. What was stopping the mobs changing as we worked through strikes/instances/stories? You mean you seriously couldn't have had quest givers in with your story? Most online games have a central story that you work towards but they also have side stories that enlighten you as to the world, background, characters, emotions etc. Destiny has none of this... Now I know they have subscription fees so perhaps that's not fair, what about Guild Wars 2, as far as I'm aware they have no subscription fee and they still release/have more content than Destiny including having an effect on the world, but perhaps that's the microtransactions? If I could buy new shaders for a dollar in Destiny and knew that this would give me the kind of content diversity/amount as some of the other games then bring it on. As it is those three story missions will take about 60 - 90 minutes to get through, the raid? Sure, hours to begin with, later? 1-2 hours. PvP? I guess if you like PvP then there's that, but it's no different to battlegrounds in other games. The strikes, we'll do them once, either go 'wow these are awesome, more like the raid' or go 'eh, another bullet sponge boss gg' and then run them ad infinatum on strike playlists we're overleveled for. So I'm paying $20 for what is in effect about 5 hours of content and the ability to replay that content over and over (but make no mistake, that doesn't count as 'content' no more than hitting reset on a game and playing it again, or doing no hp item runs on old games makes it new content). Or maybe I'm wrong...doubt it though, I would expect this kind of content to be FREE and be the kind of things that are released bit by bit weekly between DLC. New story mission one week, new pvp the next, new strike the next etc. Each week I get something new leading up to the raid and then BOOM new DLC with new planet full of stories, strikes etc. not 'eh, here's some content, see you again in a few months for a few more story missions'

    • I hope no one buys this DLC. The only way bungie is going to listen is if we hit them where it hurts; their wallets. Bungie used to be about content not just cashing in on our greed of 2 extra levels of light. I'm so sick of the repetition in this Call of Duty style PvP.

      • Are you really surprised? This games been nothing but failure after repeated failure. I remember when I made a thread confirming there would only be one zone per planet. Of course all the fanboys said I was a hater and that there would be way more than that. Some still defend this game, but they are what I like to call mentally disabled.

        • Facebook, destiny forums, twitter, reddit - everyone is criticising this game - has the feedback fallen on deaf ears? I think I might just play this once a week now, twice at most. The grind is addictive but I don't have to go to destiny to grind. Your story... That's what would have kept me going. But it's an absent hollow of a story. This game had so much potential. I hope it develops into something better - but I feel like I'll have to wait years.

You guys gotta use your brain. Not saying everyone on the forums is stupid but there is a good percentage of you out there. They plan to work on this game for years. If they were to give out 6 strikes, 3 raids, 6 pvp maps, and 10 new missions,(I'm over exaggerating, but it's to make a point) we would be like yah this is epic man. We would have fun for a while but how long would that last. It's already been a little over a month and people are losing interest. If like I said happened above, then it would only last about a month or 2 before people want more. Games like WoW are still going strong cause the years they've put into the game. It will take time but dlc and this game in general will get better( I hope) but we need stuff to look forward to in a game to keep us going. Bungee has been pretty good about update info and things like that but I wish they would give us more hints of what is to come in the future. Sorry for ranting but I hope I changed some peoples minds.

We had hopes that the game might be changed along the path to resolve its screaming issues. But instead we hear "we are listening" and nothing ever happens. The new DLC crushes any expectation that some of us had for sure. Activision will keep up the shell until the next release of Destiny 2. Selling more DLC along the way. Keep throwing money little piggies we dont care: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/75956609/0/0/1

            • Still can't believe the shear amount of moaning and whining I see on these forums day in day out. Even in real life I'm just subjected to people who want to friggin' complain all day about how things ain't working, they can't get what they want, bitching about this person, bla bla bla. T.T This game has kept many people playing longer than most "hyped" games that get released. You play them for 10hrs then you've completed with absolutely no replayability. I'm still loving Destiny even though I am playing it a bit less and less everyday from the repetitivity of bounties, dailies etc. I still really enjoying raiding on all 3 of my characters each week and hope to get the drops I want, if I don't, whatever there's always next week. x) I've made many great friendships from raiding with people and building team work, it's awesome. :D This community needs more positivity cause all I read is a bunch of complaints about how this game's crap and then you continue playing it anyway? I can't stress enough that it is only a game and meant for FUN not to get stressed over, angry and typing rage threads on the forums all day about how it isn't what it was meant to be. How many times have you guys seen an amazing advertisement for something, bought it then were dissapointed? It happens all the time, it's a good idea to keep expectations low on pretty much everything nowadays lol. I for one am looking forward to this DLC a lot and can't wait for all the new content the Bungie team will bring out over due time. ^^

Xbox people love to bitch even when they are getting content as well they feel it's not enough when before the game even launched it was a well known fact PS would have timed exclusives.

                • "utterly underwhelming ride of broken promises and terrible community relations." Listen to yourself whinge, moan and whine like every other negative post. I can understand that the story mode lacked a little depth and longevity, but as for the rest of it - it is brilliant. It's fun to try and rank up different weapons, it's still fun running the raid several times a week and seeing what loot you get. As far as the game is concerned and relations with the community go, I don't see too much to bother me. The forum community doesn't even scratch close to 0.01 percent of the games user base. Do you propose that the 99.9999% of the games users are sat at home cursing a company because they failed to meet their expectations? It's hard to please everyone, but the least everyone should admit is that it was a fun concept and realy had us all losing sleep and piling up laundry for well over a month. As a game that has almost 3 million people logged in and constantly switching location, is it not feasible to expect a little connectivity problems, not to mention hackers constantly attempting to smash through their defenses. The game is fun, you should at least admit it. It is easy to clock a lot of hours and then when it gets boring, play something else. You didn't have a contract with Bungie that claimed you'd be entertained 24/7 for the rest of your life with one disc that goes in to your console right? Most games have not a lot of longevity beyond multiplayer features after the story has been clocked through, at least the fresh experience we saw here was entertaining up until the point when it began to become a little boring. I think that for the money I paid, I have got more than enough gameplay to be satisfied with. I have made a lot of really cool friends, but what worries me is this negative community that has formed on these forums. Instead of sharing stories and moping around over half of the posts are complaining and bitter hatred towards a company that has in my opinion delivered one of my most pleasant gaming experiences of the last decade. The gameplay is fun and entertaining. They attempt to address their problems by releasing patches, which always will take time to blossom. It's not like Battlefield 4 where Dice and EA took the money and left an awesome game with the worst possible bug in gaming history that constantly locked up and froze your console - every twenty mins getting up to reset. I agree that it might have been nice to get a couple more raids maybe included in the DLC, but they aren't forcing you to buy it, so life goes on. I never thought I'd buy Destiny at first, but during the first week I watched some youtube videos and the loot, ranking and levelling system had me at "hello." £35 later I feel as though I have somehow robbed Bungie. The hundreds of hours I have clocked have made me feel as though I have been done a favour to pay so little. So agreed it's getting to that time where boredom and variety come a-calling. Maybe time to dust off some classics like Resistance 3, Final Fantasy, Black Ops 2, Ni No Kuni, Dead Space trilogy, Spinter Cell Blacklist, Last of Us, insert your favourites here ______. Read a book, make your wife a nice meal, go watch some professional sport, do anything. Just don't don't come knocking with this small change cr4p like "Oh Bungie done bent me over and had their way with me." People who have this game are playing on home entertainment systems worth up to £1000's and they budget to buy a new game every month or two at full price or several games at trade price. No other disc has hogged my playstation since Modern Warfare, but I'll be honest at least my laser kissed something different every now and then. I too am gonna take a break from Destiny and find another game to whittle a few hours away on, but you won't catch me on this forum whinging about how I am not satisfied. The new DLC has "A NEW RAID." That is almost 2 months of satisfaction right there. Two months of Tuesdays being the most pleasant and satisfying day of the week. If you ask me if that aint worth £17.50, then maybe a few extra missions a couple of raids and a ton of exotics to collect might just seal the deal.

                  • Yeah I'm torn...on one hand I love this game, I have put many hours into it, I know that I have gotten almost everything I need in the game with the exception of a few pieces of raid gear and a few exotics... I just don't know how such a short DLC will boost the games longevity... Should have known, because of past experiences, not to expect much... I thought hey are calling these expansions they must be huge! Just seems like they built the game around raids, but you can only do those once on normal and once on hard a week....just wish I knew why, with all the money they have gotten from Sony, from us and from activision, why is this so short? Who's idea was it to only include 3 story missions? The new planets that we thought we would get, how come we're not getting them? Please Bungie if you're reading our comments, destiny #1 should be a lesson for destiny#2 don't do this again I know you make great games and don't take some deal to get more money than you already have if you're not going to put it to good use :/

                    • So I'd just like to point out that in several of the pre-release videos and even the damn avatars (such as my current one) feature exotic armour and gun pieces from The Dark Below expansion. E.g. The exotic gauntlets on my hunter are 'Don't touch me', slated for the dark below. Screams of not necessarily cut content, but content parcelled up and delivered as 'extra' for DLC.

                        • Agree!!!!!! They have sold us an unfinished product that does not live up to the expectations they set. The dlc should be free if anything! The writers of the actual story did a horrible job. There practically is no story. The only reason I still play is because the ps4 still does not have a good variety of games to choose from. I can not wait to for next months releases! I'm training this game in for sure! !!

                        • One of the big problems of destiny is the lack of story. I think the most people who were excited of destiny were people who know what bungie delivered with the halo sage. We Knew bungie can deliver big story games. And after the release of the actual destiny... Yeah disappointment! And instead of solving this blemish they try to joke us with 3 new stories.... For 20 bucks

                        • Clearly a lot of you people don't know what cheap entertainment is. It's 20 dollars you all act like your purchasing a house..... What are you a bunch of peasants? If twenty dollars is that big of a struggle for some of you to meet perhaps you should not be partaking in the LUXURY of gaming. Now then for those of you who think it is bad value then STFU and spend your 20 bucks else where. Take someone out to an hour and a half movie, go out to the bars and buy a few drinks or go play a round of mini golf but don't sit around and cry like a bitch about good, cheap entertainment you can get at home. If you think you can make a better game then STFU and go do it. If not then sit down and play Destiny for what it is. For those who aren't enjoying it then quit logging 150+ hours and walk away, there is no one stopping you. For those that constantly complain and missed my message i'm trying to convey shut your GODDAMN mouths/quit typing/do whatever you have to do so those of us that do enjoy this game can do so without having to see or deal with your non stop moaning

                            • Ill be buying. Am I miffed I'm paying the same for less? Yes. Am I miffed at some things in the base game? Yes. Am I miffed how bungie is handling things. Yes indeed. But I'm at end game for almost 3 characters. I have most exotics. At this point I'd be buying dlc mainly so I have new things to do. There is a ton bungie is doin wrong and a handful of things that shouldn't be the way they are currently. But the gameplay is what keeps me going. Music and the environments are the only other things I have no complaints or suggestions for. Plus I'm a total loot addict in any game. d: not going to lie when MCC and AW drop ill likely not be on as much. But I'm sticking with destiny for sure. Regardless if the end of the series is bad or good I feel I owe bungie the respect to see it to the end. They are one of the only developers I've ever liked.

I'm not going to buy the DLC unless it comes out that there are some other things to justify the $20 price. There are some other great games out, and coming out very soon(MCC!). I've got to pick and choose how I spend Mr gaming budget.

                              • One can wonder what kind of idiot is in charge at Activision, if they really have the authority over what is released and what isn't. I mean, It's painfully obvious everyone's bitching about the lack of content, it must've been painfully obvious while making the game that people were going to bitch about the lack of content, yet they still release a DLC which lacks content again. Do they enjoy all this bitching ? I swear, if we made a business out of all the bitching on this forum, we'd make all the pimps bankrupt.
