Thoughts and Opinions about Atheon's Revenge.

So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh? I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns. I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?" I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy." At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done. This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them. If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you. Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

  • Beat atheon on hard mode last night wasn't that bad took about 30 min. I just wish the raid would quit droping the same things once you earn a ship or gear can it just be taken out of the random drops so people can actually get all the gear.

      Some people are rather scared to use the relic. After a few runs and wipes, they get a little more comfortable with it. I had a team the other day and we ran VOG normal in about 45 minutes. With another team later on that night, we ran VOG hard in about an hour and a half. There has also been a few times I have found a group that can't even work together enough to get past the conflict in the templar arena, and even more times we have failed for 4 hours to get past the Atheon fight. This raid is not hard. It can be challenging at times depending on the team, but hard? No. I'm eagerly awaiting on your next challenge. And still raiding trying to get the gear I need. Thank you for a fun game, and thank you for continuously changing things in order to keep us on our toes.

    • I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but can we fix the bug going through the portal coming back and not walk through the other side numerous times last night the team kept going through the portal and had to walk around it to the front side and attempt to re enter we all walked and still stayed in same zone

    • Good morning Djeep, I enjoy the new atheon battle, it is very difficult and that is what I expect and enjoy from the end game content of a bungie game. I don't want to just be given my good raid or exotic gear, I want to have to work for it because it's more rewarding at the end. With that said the new atheon battle has many glitches that make the battle not only frustrating but at moments unbeatable. With enough attempts it can be beaten but you need to be lucky to go through the entire fight without a hiccup. I believe you will fix this and the game will be consistent without glitches in time.       • Even with the random teleport the raid is easy. It's the bugs with more than three, two or one person only getting teleported or the Oracles Epping the raid even though they were all killed. THESE need to be fixed.

        "Plug the holes" Is that what it's called when they put a band-aid on a major issue like Atheon's constantly bugging, screwed up mechanics? So let me see if I have this straight; Instead of FIXING the glitches with the encounter, instead, they changed the entire fight in order to sweep the problems under the rug, and their excuse is "It's supposed to be hard". So in essence, instead of fixing the bugged teleporting and broken portals, and instead of fixing the random Oracle that bugs out and spawns outside of the portals before we can even go into the portals and wipes the raid, and instead of making Atheon immune to knockback effects, they make the teleportation random, didn't bother fixing the portals, and added some "baby bumpers" to the sides of the walkway. I've seen some lazy development in many games, but not much trumps what your guys are doing here. And they expect us to pay $20 for the DLC content that is already on the disc that consists of such little content, recycled enemies/events and a few watered down story missios? LMFAO! I appreciate you giving our concerns a voice, but all this confirms is how little the developers actually give a shit about what we think. I don't expect you to throw them under the bus, but the way this is being presented puts them in a very bad light, and frankly, I'm almost at my wits end here. BTW your genius developers still haven't plugged that one massive hole with the ending of the raid. They are so concerned with people cheesing their way through the raid that they fail to prioritize the things that ACTUALLY MATTER. Good grief.

        • I honestly do miss picking who gets teleported and who stays to defend Of course, its a good idea for everyone to know all roles in case of an emergency, or in this case, the way Atheon is now, but some people, like me are more comfortable with their respective role. I'm a relic holder. Ill bash goblins and hobgoblins in the head and cleanse you if your screen goes dark and I enjoy it. I [i]do[/i] know how to defend but I just love relic duty. I think I speak for a lot of people by saying this no matter what role they enjoy playing as. Hope this information was useful. Stay awesome!

        • I am ok with the random porting. It took a time or two to get that down but, there are major bugs still within the fight that need to be addressed: -My major one is the Minotaurs inside the portals. I saw it die and get the 25 glimmer, somehow it comes back and kills the relic holder. - Or the times we are shooting him and he just keeps getting health back. - There is a MAJOR issue with going through a portal and not coming out the other side, happens more often when more then one tries to go at the same time but still happens by yourself sometimes. - There is also the part of Atheon only porting two people sometimes. - There is also the issue with damage going through the relic bubble. - There is also the issue of supplicants freezing next to a portal and not taking any damage at all until people pop out and they blow up. - There is also the issue where killing all the oracles inside but we still die from them. - Also, sometimes it says you are cleansed but yet you go blind later on before the next porting. - Count down timer ends and no "go to orbit" , have to do it manually, if there is some other reason for this, it would be great to know why :) If these could be fixed or even mentioned that it is not a bug and in fact on purpose to make the event less preplanned and random, it would make everything with this fight wonderful.

          • That leaves maybe the Nightfall to be the only reason I play Destiny from now on. That's IF my friends are on. DLC? Same rehashed stuff Destiny already provides with a new bow on top. So, thanks for killing my experience. At least you tried for us DeeJ.

            • Beat it on hard last night (2x30s) it was tough no because of random teleporting but because of the bugs. Such as: incorrect number teleported. Teleported with sheild from atheon Mobs regenerate health in portals. Oracles were gliching, some seemed to have double life.

              • This update infuriates me to no end. I get the raid is supposed to be among the hardest mission a team can do. But the issue here is that with this patch you can't act as a team with this random teleporting bullshit. Having assigned roles provides a more delicate and more organized way to complete the raid AS A TEAM. As of right now an experienced team cannot even complete the raid on NORMAL with them being unable to coordinate properly. "Atheon is a bastard, eh?", more like the development team is a bastard. They had their chance to see the fans of this game said this patch is complete bullshit and like always, they didn't listen. You can sugarcoat this topic by making fans think you actually care about our thoughts and concerns but you really don't. Ever since this game came out you have done nothing but ruin the fun of being over level 20.

From a 2008 update in halo 3: "No matter how fair the tiebreaker may be, if a single Assault Rifle bullet can slip by and decide the outcome, it might as well be random. [b]And randomness is a poor substitute for tactics and skillful execution[/b]" So much for tactics eh?

                  • I think people are mad because the difficulty addition was added before addressing the major glitches in the Atheon battle. Such as: the "Venus" minotaur regaining health The wrong number of players being teleported Killing oracles but still getting wiped. I'm sure many others. As well as not addressing the loot frustration I.e. getting the exact same armor and weapons that you're currently using or getting endless streams of ascendant materials that are worthless due to not having raid gear. Atheon is hard enough. I don't want to also have to fight the loot system for literally months.

                    It now seems like every time Bungie releases content they go back and either have to changed it or make excuses much to the chagrin of players. When players who did the QB mission, get the same crappy armor and break it down for shards they removed the shards breakdown. Iron Banner - essentially another false marketing line only outdone by how grand and great the game was suppose to be at luanch. Now the Raid. Templar fix I understand. Knocking Final boss of ledge fix I understand. But this random bullshit has got to go. It's not so much difficult as it is frustrating and just a tactic to piss players off. Cap that with a 20 DLC cough "cash grab" that adds a few story missions that may suck as bad as the current missions and be just a less memorable. Some strikes and a raid of 2....maybe a 10 to 15 dollar purchase but I have a feeling it won't warrant another 20 bucks on top of a sub pat product. I love the game but Damn it if it haven't been bungled. And now with other stuff coming out I doubt that Destiny will keep me locked. And by the way 3.9 something millions players is a nice figure but spread that across 4 consoles and it's a bit less impressive. I pray in the coming weeks and months Bungie proves me wrong on all fronts. The game looks, feels, and plays great but so much of the backbone of this game is lacking in such a brazen way I'm surprise it was shipped and not delayed. Please Bungie prove me wrong. I know you guys gave gotta be coming through a lot of crap but I have yet to feel like my purchase was justified. Had I not fell for the hype of Destiny and waited a week after its release I have a distinct feeling I would not even be on these forums right now.
