Thoughts and Opinions about Atheon's Revenge.

So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh? I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns. I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?" I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy." At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done. This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them. If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you. Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

  • Could care less about the fix. Honestly I've done it both ways. I have more fun not cheesing it tbh. Can we get the exotics fixed now plz. Thorn, juju, and SGA most of all. Also bump the pocket a little Plz. Think the nerf hurt too much. Don't know a whole lot about coding or play testing but adjusting a few stats can't be all that hard. Is it?

The transfer gates still sometimes don't let us pass through. Atheon still sometimes teleports just 2 players instead of 3. The Minotaur in the forest gate still sometimes regenerates health. Players are still taking damage while inside the Relic bubble. Oracles are still sometimes going through their death animation before they're actually destroyed. So no, they have not plugged any holes. They fixed Atheon being pushed off the edge and that's good, but that's really the only hole in the Raid that has been addressed. Oh and the Templar can still be pushed off the edge. [quote]Let's talk about it. If they are ultimately the ones that decide which changes go through and which don't.

    I think this was a very bad update i liked being able to have set roles for everyone it made strategizing much easier now that everything is random the outcome will be random not everyone knows every role in the raid and sometimes it's hard to learn not everyone has mic's either which makes coordination a lot more challenging which in turn makes the raid even more challenging, patching the push was ok but the random teleporting is unfair especially with no guaranteed good loot at the end

    For a ten year game...this first month has been a train wreck. Why do you neckbeards insist on trying to make "us" the consumer even attempt to conform to your stupid "exploit fixes". Let's define "exploit" shall we. Exploit- a piece of software , chunk of data or a chain of commands that takes advantage of a bug, glitch or vulerability in order to cause unintended or unanticipated behavior to occur on computer hardware, software or something electronic. So...how did we as a gaming community "exploit" your game? Diid "we" corrupt the intenal workings of the game by not playing it the way "you" wanted us to? The phrasing "exploit" you all like to use is ludicrous and you should be ashamed of yourselves. It all boils down to lazy coding and lazy testing. If you didn't want "us" farming or cheesing raid bosses then you should of patched it pre-release. You are taking a game with great potential and screwing it all up with your communist actions....making your own rules from your lazy mistakes. You were a great developer once. Now it's going to be sweet poetic justice two weeks from today when 343 takes away all of your server traffic and takes a big fat dump in your front lawn. "We are listening...." You guys best buy some stock in hearing aids. Maybe you should say "We are conforming you into the sheep we want you to be"....that's more appropriate.

  • So are we gonna see the teleporting platforms section "fixed" next? I sort of assume that we're meant to follow some sort of trail of platforms to reach the bottom but most everyone I've seen just hits one or two before hurling themselves over to the end.

  • Ok DeeJ, I am going to be [b]completely honest.[/b] The devs are being stubborn? fine. But there is still one glaring issue with the raid: the reward system. Please ask the devs to imagine this scenario: *you gather a group of 6 to do the hard VoG. *you struggle for hours on end because of the increased difficulty. *but the team finally develops a strategy that works and atheon is beaten *you are rewarded a chatterwhite shader....and a sparrow. Both of which you already have. *The raid was a -blam!-ing waste of time because of the broken reward system. This kind of SHIT happens all the time. I have a friend who earned 6 sparrows in a row from the VoG. Tell me, when the reward system isn't guarenteed to reward you for your efforts, what point is there to do the VoG? It certainly isn't for the experience of doing the raid. No, I'm sick of raiding. It lost all the fun rather quickly. The reward system has to make it worth doing. I appreciate your honesty with the community, but please relay this question to the devs.

      • The thing is DeeJ, we don't believe you. We asked you to speak on our behalf, and I don't believe you did. "It was never meant to be easy." For me it isn't about the raid being easy. It's about me trying to find 5 other players that have the same time constraints as I do. I understand that it's supposed to be difficult. I understand that Atheon doesn't care about our teams and strategy, that he wants us out of his vault and time line.. But now I feel that the raid is inaccessible to me. I am a friendly helpful person. One of the first weeks I completed the raid, after seeing so many posts about people who had no experience and were unable to find teams because of it, I ran the raid 8 times that week. Making sure I grabbed a handful of newbies so that they could get it done and have as much fun as I did. Now, instead of being able to grab some people and doing a raid, I am forced to reject those newbies. I am forced to create an exclusive group that can handle the raid. If you haven't done the raid, you most likely will not get that chance until new content comes and the vault looks like a story mission to the higher levels. I guarantee I will not be playing with you, not by my choice either, but this is what bungie wants. Key takeaways: RIP community, there is no longer a need for it. Form your cliques and raid parties, that's it. Our voices fall on deaf ears, as proven by DeeJ. "I tried, but... They don't care about you guys. Oops?" The inexperienced will no longer be welcome to play in our reindeer games.

        • I just don't get it, such simple things, don't nerf stuff only to take it back, didn't take you any time at all to nerf the mythoclast but putting it back seems to be taking quite some time. If the raid is random now why not just allow to play with random people, hell, if you want it harder, why not ONLY play with random people? How about I've done the raid (for real and cheese) on three chars every week since it's been going on and have nothing but a couple exotics and a set of raid gloves (of course i have plenty of sharts, energies, spaceships, and freaking chatter whites). How about making a smarter looting system, something which has obviously been broken since the get go, thus the incredible number of people trying to find easy ways to get around your intentions. Quit wasting your time on useless stuff that doesn't make the game better, it just 'makes it as intended'. Did you intend for the loot system to suck? Did you intend for me to go back to orbit when i loose in the nightfall, essentially just wasting my freaking time if i want to try again? Did you intend for me to get thorns bounty by having a bunch of my friends in free for all run up to me and let me kill them? Did you intend for me to cheese, Templar, Nexus and Archon? Your game is full of holes which are only made more visible because people are trying anything to get loot. This is going to continue to happen until you address the root of the problem, and stop trying to cover up the problem by masking the symptoms.

            • Easy response, im never taking a new player to teach to this encounter again. If the wow expansion was already out, id quit. The fact that rushed fixes that no one in the community supports is being done to basically slow everyone down waitin for december, expect alot less dlc buys....i love your game, trust me, ive played mmos for years and this was a fresh original raid with great elements for your 10 year plan, but unless you guys start looking at games that actually lasted 10 years your going to end up like every other 4 month mmo fad.....and halo didnt last 10 years, so dont fall back on that, halo 2 and 3 created amazing original fps experiences that everyone expected out of every future fps, and the fact that years later these basic concepts cant come at launch, custom games, ranked pvp, easy ingame communication. I get it , you wanted destiny to be something of its own, you wanted a difficulty and a simplicity that kept everyone....now your satisfying neither end. The challenge is already done, people have 3 30s on one account, why would i bash my head into atheon teaching friends when i can wait for you to release another rushed raid to be exploited then wait another 6 months for the exotic changes you promised to actually go through....hint dont hint at changes you cant deliver in 2 weeks, this isnt 2000 when halo came out so i can wait 6 months and people will come back....i expect alot of people to look at the raid now and pick up modern warfare instead.....regardless amongsty rant i really hope you do something positive to create depth to this game, (extra bounty space, why not vault space?) before the hype falls off...btw you obviously want money, every pc game on earth is banking on $2 cosmetics they can put on daddys credit card, how is transmog and how is this not a concept.....if your goin to be greedy, do it right for both of us....dont wanna take anymore time writing this since i have to spend my whole day off farming materials that are more pain in an ass then korean grinders.....and ive played plenty, idc if you respond to me personally but if i can come up with these fixes in the timespan of a bathroom break, start hiring some people who have a clue.

            • The randomization has nothing to do with how hard it makes it. The point is that on hard there are only a few things Hunters can do, that's why so many people running hard raid don't want Hunters at all. By making who goes in random it makes having them even a greater liability. Even though Warlocks are supposed to be the glass canons the Hunters are much more squishy. You guys need to do something to help Hunters a little in PvE. Right now I'm only good at making orbs of light and killing oracles and let's face it. A Warlock would do those things better and could self rez.

If any new players, or players that have never been in the raid, don't get selected to participate, or that other players don't want to bother helping you.....you know exactly who to thank.             • Good job! This update won't impact me much at all in fact I'm excited and eager to jump back on the raid (I hope this week I will get some raid gear for my hunter though) I was slightly annoyed when i first heard about the atheon teleporting change but then I actually played through and realised that this stage of the raid had become so casual that any group I played with would talk about other things whilst occasionally saying which planet/side the defenders would have to jump to. Rather than shouting S*** we got ported to a or b and having to quickly change tactics and communicate about the game, rather than talk about what we had for dinner earlier tell life stories or "what movie can I hear in the background?" Now we have to actually pay attention. Therefore I have changed my mind about this update, everyone will be more engaged in the constant chaos that the raid should be. Thanks.

            • Hello Deej, two things Atheon's epilogue is supposed to be on of the best weapons of the Raid but I've upgraded everything and it is not useful in the Raid mode hard, other is that I am Level 29 now but when I go to Raid in mode hard I am still dying with only one sniper shot, I mean what happen with the armor? My point is they can make the Vault of Glass as hard they want but we still need power in our weapons because now is impossible beat the Templar

                it's a very good move this patch bungie, atheon was too easy, if you add the vex pve buff and maybe more t2 gears lootable from the VOG HM it will be awesome! cz now you have only 4 possible drop in hm it"s not enough

              • I'm okay with the bumpers and the teleporting. It forces players to play and understand the raid in it's entirety. The better exotic thing worries me. I think there should at least be armor that is good in PvE but not PVP and vice versa, and this could be exotic armor. Now, that would probably call for a bigger vault or more inventory space, but as it stands, I hardly use my vault for armor.

              • I know that a lot of people are pissed off at this patch, but to be honest in the long run people will become better raiders in all aspects due to the randomization. Let's just say that they didn't go along with this patch, and people always stuck to the same roles over and over again. Wouldn't you tire of repetitive duties knowing there's two sides in fighting a raid, yet you've stuck strictly to one of these sides because you're afraid of messing up? We learn from our mistakes, people. Sure, it sucks that now there's no way to guarantee who will be sent and who will stay back (I know that now doing the raid with my friends will be harder but in the end they will learn how to do all aspects of the raid and won't really need to "babysit" them), but on the upside this serves as preparation for those who will be playing The Crota's End raid in December, which I believe is going to be an insanely hard on its release. Just one quick tip to counter Atheon's random teleportation; focus on training the four strongest players on how to use the relic, that way anytime three people get sent back you'll always have somebody sent to either the past or present who knows more or less how to use the relic. As for the two players on your team that you believe are the "weakest links", drill these tips into their heads; if you're not teleported, from where we spawn, left plate is red and right plate is green. If the teleported people say "red", then stand on top of the pedestal of the left vex plate, and if they say "green" just do the same on the right vex plate. And if you do get teleported, focus on killing the oracles/red hologram-looking things that pop up in the air. This patch will only make the raid hard if players aren't willing to FULLY teach others the ropes of the raid.
