So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh?
I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns.
I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?"
I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy."
At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done.
This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them.
If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you.

1 Replymy thoughts are that you have punished those that have adapted and improvised and that these changes are more about Bungie's rep than making the game more fun for the player. The pushing off the ledge thing trivialized the encounter so that should have been fixed but the time stream thing was a strategy no different than saying: "hey fred you cover the left and I'll cover the right" I also don't believe that you have always intended it to be random as you claim. I think Atheon was designed to teleport those furthest away to discourage camping in the back and when people figured that pattern out and developed a strategy around it you changed the goal posts because you want your game to be seen as "hardcore" and "difficult" because those are the buzzwords the demographic you are trying to please like to hear

6 RepliesJust a thought... Since it is now impossible to bully atheon into taking the plunge, could the dev team implement a new color scheme for vex mythoclasts dropped after the patch? I feel there is definitely grounds for this course of action, and although no stats would be changed, there would be a clear difference between pre- and post-patch raid completion rewards. This way there is a true sense of pride for defeating the boss the way he was supposed to be beat. Thoughts everyone?

We all know random loot from raids is a big problem. People are getting the same thing over and over again, but not what they need. In order to make the raid more rewarding with less random loot... I think raid tokens are a great idea. At the end of the raid after you've beaten atheon, a raid shop should open up with the ghost of ancient guardians who failed to beat atheon offering the gear and weapons of those guardians for raid coins/strange coins.

Then you guys got butthurt and changed how the mechanic worked. It's not the fact that "it was intended to be random" because if it was, you would've just made the encounter random from the start instead of changing it once we figured out the lazy workaround you did for a pseudo random effect. TL;DR: you hoped we wouldn't figure out the shortcut you took, we did, then the devs act like a child playing checkers that throws the board when they lose.

I understand that the raid was supposed to be difficult, but YOU, THE DEVELOPERS, failed in that respect. The content has already been released. Now is when you should be taking the time to learn from your mistakes for the next time, for the next raid. Don't change up content that has already been released. Live and learn from it. There is no differentiation for players who completed the raid before the patch or after the patch either. This is ruining the player experience, not to mention that this doesn't even begin to address the largest problem... The largest problem with the raid is RNG. How difficult would it be to keep everything else exactly the same, but give players 1 token at the end for completing each stage of the raid for that week? Use the tokens with Xur or some raid shop NPC to give guaranteed raid gear through a progressive system. There are too many people that have run through the raid each and every week and still don't have the gear to be level 30 while another person can pick up all the pieces they need in one play through.

I don't really care because unlike many others, I learned every role of the raid. Who wants to team up with an "oracle killer" anyway? Most people are just too lazy to learn a new role. Like oracles are hard to kill... Lol.

Deej, The recent changes to the game make it feel like we are playing a board game or basketball at that friends house that changes the rules just so they can win. Nobody likes this person. This is the same kid that wonders why he isn't picked on teams and wonders why nobody want to play with him. Deej, you are a gamer and you know the things that make a game great and the things you enjoy in doing in a game. That is what the people are looking for. Playing a game of this type, we want new armor with unique look and perks and quest lines that last longer than a few hours. I do recommend that some major changes be made. Bungie is becoming the next triton(created Defiance) and is quickly losing the reputation of being a developer that makes great games. Halo is still the best game I have ever played and I know you and your team are capable of doing great things. I do not work at Bungie so I can not say for sure but there seems to be many issues behind the scenes. I encourage each of you to work together and make this the game you intended it to be. I still have hope for Destiny, but do not see it being fixed for a long time due to people behind the scenes being stubborn and wanting things their way instead of swallowing pride and allowing a needed change to be made. Even though it is hard, those people need to be removed from the team and replaced by someone who is willing to do what is best for the consumer. Thanks for your time, Philip

Thanks for adding this to the raid. In all honesty it was becoming kind of boring. The fact you could push Atheon off also increased the likelihood of people becoming level 30 or having the Vex when they didn't really deserve it. I'm glad you guys changed it, because any player who is better than average can still beat this raid. In the future deej I hope to see you and the bungee team cater to the more skilled players in pvp and pve. I would also like to extend my hopes for strictly pvp based gear. Two sets of raid armor, one set with perks based on pvp and the other based on pve. I believe this isn't asking too much. Also, why make the raid perks so set on the Vex? I mean that's cool, but it doesn't do much help when it comes to the nightfall strike which i still consider to be harder than the raid.

This game is unplayable now. I have been enjoying this game since it came out, playing pretty much everyday for multiple hours a day but since I downloaded the patch update I have been getting kicked literally every 3 minutes at the most. This is ridiculous because this was all supposed to be fixed multiple patches ago. I'm not one to bitch about things but how can I play a game that kicks me every 2 minutes? How can I even attempt the raid with this going on and it isn't only me.. my whole team is getting kicked constantly and it's really annoying.

I would almost say this post is for deej to get feedback in the form of putting egg on the developers face. I feel like he went out of his way to mention the community concerns and they were ignored. So now we can vent to him here, and he can be like told you so.

I can see how knocking the boss off the ledge may have been an oversight. Players are clever and will find unexpected exploits. But a design team that can't even figure out how to randomly select 3 of 6?? I learned how to use a random number generator 30 years ago when I was 13, playing around on an IBM PC. That's just sad, and really instills no faith at all in the RNG based loot system. Cmon, they can't even randomly select 3 of 6 without having to come back and patch it later. What the heck!?

2 RepliesSo much for "Destiny: Become legend!" Atheon transporting random players means everyone needs to gear exactly the same so everyone can do every job. Why bother playing with the weapon you enjoy, when that will set your team at a disadvantage. This fix doesn't make the content more enjoyable to veterans, who in large part can already do everything. It just makes the raid more difficult for new players, who will now have to struggle through learning every job. It is a thinly veiled attempt to extend content. if anything, All this just goes to show that even though Deej is listening, and doing his best to convey the communities opinion. The Dev team as a whole doesn't care what he has to say. More specifically they don't care what [i]we[/i] have to say. It's their game, and we should be damned if we don't enjoy it the specific way they want us to. Our opinions may as well be ignored. Thanks anyway Deej, you did your best. with this update there needs to be a quick load out change option in the game to go from oracle killer to slayer of harpies to the quick and agile role to run and kill with the relic not this 20 sec of pressing start and going through many options to get back to the role you need to be at that moment

Shame that that the raid development team cannot actually create "hard" encounters that challenge the player base. Every single phase throughout the raid is exploitable. Including the latest version of Atheon. Shut down VoG and actually fix your "hardcore" encounters.

Kind of defeating the whole teamwork emphasis in the Vault of Glass with this patch. Pretty damn dissapointed honestly.
