So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh?
I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns.
I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?"
I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy."
At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done.
This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them.
If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you.
Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

What about those who don't have the best weapons and the players who aren't a high enough level to kill things effectively? It's gonna be hard to take my little cousin through the raid when he's a level 24 if he gets sent through the time gate. He'll die in one shot so the relic is tough to use and he can't kill oracles fast enough. He would've been assigned to opening portals but now it's just gonna be a big mess. Another thing that bothers me is that certain people have weapons and abilities better suited to kill Atheon while others have weapons better suited to kill oracles. I have gjallerhorn so I'm better to be outside (I can easily do both, don't get me wrong). I hate the randomization, I like pushing Atheon off patch, but still -blam!- Bungie for the randomization. It makes it so much harder to help the new guys through the raid if we can't walk them through each role, inside and out, and wipe until they get the hang of it.

Honestly I am done with destiny. You let the exploit go on too long , polluted the game with Vex Mythlocasts and intend to buff the weapon again. This is the worst gaming management I've seen in recent memory and I actually want my money back or to see some serious dedication to making this right.

I doubt you'll get this but perhaps with the next raid let a few select players test it first, no rewards just people who think outside the box trying to find glitches. Not myself but I know a few who would be great at the job

3 RepliesEdited by BCBUDZ: 10/28/2014 7:50:24 PMDeej I'll say this as an educated gamer and consumer eg purchaser in my household. I am 40. Mature. From a buyer's standpoint the game is already frustrating and repetitive. I have completed the raid without cheesing but having to do a raid 4 dozen times is not something players are going to invest in. Boredom comes easy in gaming. The next big thing will come and Destiny will be forgotten. Your goal right now should be player retention. Making an already hard raid impossible was not the answer. You just pissed off every player in the game, most of whom were already bored. That said Destiny has good qualities. Great graphics. Low lag for the most part. We need real content and lots of it. A recent poll suggested 88% of players prefer pve. Listen to the players or the franchise is doomed!

Alright DeeJ since you are reading this just wanted to point out a few things. As of right now PS3, PS4 are having issues with frequent server boot even more so then before along with log in issues I'm not sure about the Xbox councils. This i wanted to bring to your attention if you are serious on reading these. Another matter is some of the updates on Bad JuJu and Thorn we have been waiting patiently man on these updates for them its been 3-4 weeks since you guys told us you would update them soon. I'm sure some people would like your best estimation on perhaps when they will get addressed? A few more food for thought is content some of us in this game are troopers but even so DeeJ we are getting tired of doing the same things over and over again. We crave for new things better things stuff that will challenge us and make our classes what they are supposed to be. Last Thing this one is something i would throw out Bungie doesn't want this game to be Holy Trinity Style Game play right? Then why put armor in this game and stats if its not going to be. With this being said i challenge you to look at it this way. Why put armor with stats in this game and defense rating if you aren't going to have the Warlock as a Healer and Mage class or the Hunter as a DPS or Support fire class and The Titan as a Tank and Guard class you guys have already crossed the thresh hold. How about you guys test this for yourselves see if this makes a difference. If you read this DeeJ thank you for taking the time and doing what you can do about the game for us. Truly you are an Unsung Hero

I don't even care about the changes because I know I have the skill to defeat him properly I hope if Bungie find anymore bugs like this they promptly patch things more quickly. It's quite upsetting to know so many bum holes got the Vex gun by cheating....like little bitches with no skill Would they be able to find a way in their heart to release the Vex as a one time only buy? With a certain amount of coins? No worries if not, I'll just get it through luck I guess -walks off slowly into the shadows-

I don't really have any issues with what's happened in the patch (I haven't done hard yet) I personally just found the raid to be a bit small. I understand there were different stages to complete and I love the puzzles that needed solving to progress, but once broken down, it's essentially just 2 bosses. I get that this is just the beginning though and can't wait to see the future raids and if they will be any bigger (hopefully yes)

Edited by Pthymn: 10/28/2014 7:40:28 PMSo I guess that many ways to play motto that you've always been touting has been changed to the play the one way we want you to.

I know you're trying to make a single thread so that the forums arent clogged, but if you click on ANY OTHER THREAD but this one, you can find your comments and concerns about this patch. TL;DR click other threads, stop sh!t posting Deej

Just a couple things I've noticed playing Destiny that could use some improvement... Roles. It's what should make having different classes matter. If you've ever played games like World of Warcraft, would you expect the healers to be able to tank? Of course not. Destiny is it's own game but there's a reason those roles exist. Rewards. Simply put, risk isn't worth the reward. I get it, Atheon is supposed to be the biggest challenge in the game so far. Problem is, rewards are pretty much random. I've done the raid multiple times and only received energy for most of it. That reward certainly doesn't meet the badassedness of Atheon when I can easily get that from normal play. I could go on but these are some of the most frustrating. Sure, the story could be better, but I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain. Unfortunately the game just isn't fun anymore and it's hard for me to find reason to keep coming back. It's a shame because I truly enjoyed the gameplay and believe Destiny has so much potential.
-
I am in complete disbelief that Bungie didn't listen to the thousands of posts that were against the random teleport changes. It is like a slap in the face to the Destiny community that voiced their concerns.
-
It's enough that I'm a hunter, with not that much raid experience, and now I have to know all roles for people to want to play with me? What's going to happen when more people continue to beat your raid in 40 minutes no matter how many changes u make? I'm ok with the baby bumpers, no arguing that but the random teleporting sucks. You just told all new raiders "go -blam!- your self, u didn't play it when it first came out and theirs no match making so no one will play with u now muahahahaah"
-
More randomness to one of the most RandomNG based games out there. Yay Bungie u so smert.

Deej I am very disappointed with Bungie right now, you guys are failing basic sustainable business tactics. Destiny is about to be eaten alive when more games for our next gen consoles come out! I don't want that but you're digging yourself a deeper and deeper hole. Here is my suggestion to get you guys back on the right track. Send us all surveys or post polls that hold significance in your decision making for what to "fix" or add in this game. I honestly thought to myself Bungie is smart enough to not change the teleportation method for Atheon, they won't change it with this many people saying it's a bad idea.... nope proven wrong. You guys are falling apart because you screwed yourself over releasing such a faulty game. Your devs have somehow fallen under the illusion they are still in control and making things better but they are not. The customer is the most important part of product design and modifications, but you guys don't seem to give a -blam- about what we say. I would think you guys would work on actually fixing things in the raid like 2 people being teleported or the countdown timer never bringing you back to orbit. I don't want to see this game die but if Bungie remains the company it is now and doesn't actually change the game for the (consumer perceived) better, I can't see it lasting too much longer. =(

Did you fix the Mythoclast so it isn't shite in pve?

Edited by GoldenArms27: 10/28/2014 8:25:01 PMI am a longtime Bungie supporter and I try to give most developers the benefit of the doubt. Until they do something so obviously detrimental to the community and playerbase, couching it as a bug fix or closing an exploit. I doubt any player of Destiny, hardcore raiders and newbies who have yet to beat Atheon (like myself), actually believes that Atheon teleporting the furthest three players was a bug. If this was honestly a funky bit of coding that made the raid not work as intended, why didn't you guys mention anything about it before, or shortly after, the raid went live. Changing the rules because "the raid should never be easy" and claiming you are fixing a bug is just short sighted and vindictive. It feels like Bungie is saying "If you don't play by our rules, which we can arbitrarily change with little warning, then you can't win and have your lusted after loot (or lack thereof, often). This flies in the face of raid tactics in most MMO games, where mechanics of a fight are static, learned through a few trial runs, and then counted on to stay that way, so that teams can build strategies. I honestly think this will lead to less people completing the raid, and experienced raiders may be less willing to help new raiders through the raid, since now they can't rely on knowing who will teleport. I believe that everyone attempting the raid SHOULD learn every role, but that's because it's fun and useful. Not because you may be randomly thrown into teleporting. So much for "away team" strategies, and setting your class build for one role or another (because it's not like you'll have time to swap it in the middle of a fight). I sincerely hope that you guys at Bungie see the overwhelming negative response to Atheon teleporting random players, and change it back, for BOTH normal and hard difficulties. I still love Destiny and will continue playing, but you've given me one more reason to hold off on completing the raid for now. Please do not let our concerns fall on deaf ears DeeJ. Edit: Furthermore, you make zero mention of the myriad *actual* bugs that happen in VoG. Only two players being teleported, not being able to enter teleporters during the Relic phase before Atheon, and enemies regenerating health for no apparent reason. These are the issues you guys need to be addressing, not the so called bugs which nobody wanted fixed to begin with. I fully understand that you want the raid to work as intended, as designed, but we all know that it doesn't every time, because of some of the bugs I just mentioned. On top of that, isn't what your development team wants secondary to what we, as players and consumers (many of us loyal since the days of ONI and Marathon) want to see in Destiny? This seems like a case of "the customer is always right". I am not disappointed with my purchase of Destiny's Limited Edition. But I am disappointed in some of the ways you guys at Bungie have been responding to the community and issues with the game.

Of all the updates that might actually improve the player experience Bungie decides that the issue that needs to be fixed first is player teleportation? I don't remember seeing one person complaining about this part of the VOG phase. I do recall people praising VOG as it is the best part of Destiny. Why fix it if its not broken? Honestly there is so many things that should be worked on before this. Why is hurting player strategy one of the first updates in place; why is this so important? I'm a level 29 and I've been a 29 for 30 to 40 hours. This is because level upgrades are based off of gear. If i'm not fortunate it enough to get the randomly dropped raid gear then I'm out of luck. I get two times a week (hard normal). I've beaten VOG 6 times now (With phases and chests that's a lot of chances). I've only received greaves twice. That's it. I don't have a problem being a level 29 its just a little frustrating being stuck. Why don't they fix my almost useless Bad Ju Ju or let us talk to our matched fire teammates? Better yet, how about making some type of matching system for raid?
-
Pay more attention to fixing ya terrible servers
-
At what point are the Raid rewards going to be addressed, DeeJ? If the Raid is "never supposed to be easy" - why does it continually award frivolous and purely cosmetic items upon completion? What possible benefit am I to my raid team if I have a legendary ship and shader, but no raid armour or weaponry to bring to the fight? If this is supposed to be the most challenging encounter in the game to date; why not reward its completion with items that will help players bring others along to the Vault? Enable us to share the experience with newer Guardians, and perhaps foster the sense of community and camaraderie that I'm sure Bungie intended for Destiny all along.
-
Almost everyone voiced their opinion on randomizing being a bad idea but still you change it. You tell us we are being heard and our opinions matter. That everything you do is designed with our preference in mind. Today you showed us this was all a lie. Our voices may be heard by the community manager but they hold no weight with the developers. Our voices don't matter when we are loud and in unison, so our voices will never matter. This much is evident today.

It's pretty clear that our words don't mean anything. Hire level designers, not ex-journalist WoW players. Good luck in your future "raids". FFXIV patch 2.4 drops today so I'll be doing some real raiding before Dragon Age comes out. Let's see how Destiny 2 shapes up.

Buff Atheon's Epilogue's impact!!! :3

I think it's good that random people get teleported simply because it allows all players to learn all the steps in the raid.
