So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh?
I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns.
I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?"
I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy."
At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done.
This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them.
If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you.
Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

1 ReplyI personally think the raid will be more fun with the random teleporting. The more challenging, the more rewarding and fun it is to complete it.
-
Main reason why people are mad is the communication of the raid and the strategy that was used. Now you will get have. Do you have the relic? Who's got the oracles? Who's got the enemy? I thought you had? My bad. Deadddd wipe and spend useless hours of zero progress. Going to make it had for random forum teams also. I'm just glad I only can get loot once a week from the raid.

I'm not interested in opinions generally. But I am going to add my experience to tho squabble. First off, I don't have much time to play. My fiancés kids come over on weekends and play Destiny. We all play and together as I bought an additional ps4 to do so. We played when we could and leveled up the best we could in order to play the raid, though I enjoy all other modes too. One day we came across a player that joined our failed attempted raid that was high level. He took is to atheon on hard mode and generously knocked him off for is all. He did this in subsequent weeks. I got a lot of great gear and weapons and so did the kids. We would not have done this so fast if he had not dedicated his time to helping those either unskilled or too young to get 5 other teammates to beat the raid especially on hard mode. It would have been potentially months before having enough time. With that being said, I am glad they fixed Atheon and I'm glad they made teleporting random. I have done the raid without the cheese a lot and played with MANY whom either never had before or simply cannot find others to do it with. I was finding ransoms to try it with and that was HARD sometimes. Not always but sometimes. Matchmaking is not the answer. May be an ok feature in time but not now. Atheon is hard. He as a team is in a lot of ways one of if not the hardest boss of all time. Think about it. Without the internet, think of the work required to get to him and then beat him! That's the point. Now many of you don't want that and this is fine. Are you satisfied with the other bosses? You can go play them. The challenge is the point here. The games structure is on the random. Just learn each role and random teleporting shouldn't matter and instead make this boss more of a challenge. I love the true challenge of the raid. It's teamwork! It is hard to have teamwork with 6 people. That's why it's hard! Not just the level one is at. It takes time to get to the higher levels because you earn it. Raid gear? Get to level 29 without it. Raid gear is a bonus and NOT the goal. If it is the goal, keep playing. Learn your roles, learn to communicate, and beat him how he was designed. I love how someone helped me and my fiancés kids get better gear they wouldn't have time to get otherwise. But them, like me, couldn't wait to beat him ourselves without relying on level 30s to crutch us through. It's great we can relay it as much as we want. And hard mode even more! You all have put in a lot of time on this game. Probably over 100 hours. That's a lot. It's a game and you put in that much time and likely finished it. You want more. You want to beat Atheon as easy as possible. Now there is less ways to do that. Complaining doesn't overcome challenges. Just maybe try to imagine Atheon as being this way all along. Guess what? Still one of the harder challenges in a game boss ever and I'm old school. And good. I am a solid Souls game vet and in a lot of ways Destiny is mirroring it's difficulty at times. Be happy for that. I live for it. Bungie gave us a better challenge. And I look forward to it. You? And leave DeeJ alone. Remember he is doing his job and you all should keep it subjective and not personal. And be patient. Many can't play huge amounts of time. A $60 game this has far surpassed.

14 RepliesI can't believe what I just read. In one breath you say the community was heard. In the next breath you say the devs don't care, it's not what THEY wanted from the raid. Who is playing the game and who are the changes being made for then? Right now it sounds like another statement I see more and more: Bungie only wants us to play the game their way. This was not a way to increase difficulty, only frustration.

2 RepliesI'm glad that making the game harder takes priority over making the game more fun

HALLOWEEN ITEM BUG I logged on went to the mail clicked the Halloween present, and then got the error code beetle now I have no item.

3 RepliesI STAND WITH YOU FELLOW GUARDIANS We can't let them do what they want. We should stand up and make a statement; we need to let them know that the game is here because of us! Let's show them by not playing for an hour! Let's shut our systems off for one hour on November 1, 2014 @ 9pm EST. Who is with me? ONE HOUR FOR DESTINY #onehourfordestiny

Words can not described how upset this update makes me. As I've stated prior, assembling a team can be hard, coordinating that team is even harder, coordinating what is now essentially chickens with their heads cut off? completely and utterly impossible Before this update, I gladly teamed up with folks who sat at level 26 and/or were new to the raid because I could still find uses for them and teach them along the way. You Can Not teach RNG! This update has collectively alienated both of those groups, effectively diminishing a huge reason to continue playing Destiny. I just find it sad that my hand has been forced in this manner. Instead of having my open door "Everyone is welcome" policy, I now have to say "28 or Get out" In summary Damn it, Bungie...

How about you guys actually do what we ask? Stop freaking catering to the pvp side so much.

9 RepliesThe patch has gone live and Aethion now teleports 3 random people. I look forward to this new challenge. Good news I have a plan. 1) Instead of 3 people going to the back, 3 people should go to the right plate and 3 to the left plate. This way, there is only a 5% chance that there will be no one at the gate we need to open when the teleport happens. 2) Everyone will be ranked from 1 to 6 on there ability with the relic. 1 is the highest six is the lowest. 3) When you get teleported you say your number (not your name) and listen for the numbers of the other people. 4) If you are the highest ranked person you pick up the relic and call desert or jungle. 5) If you are not the highest ranked person, get ready to shoot oracles and call desert or jungle. 6) The people in the present still need listen for desert or jungle. 7) One person in the present will say that they will open the portal the other 2 people will spread out and focus on supplicants. (The person who calls opening the portal still needs to help with the supplicants, but his first priority is opening the portal.) 8) When the time travelers get back through the portal we all meet in the middle. 9) Rinse and repeat. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks DeeJ for relaying info for us, sad part is the community does not forget how there voices are ignored buy this company. Take a lesson from EA/Dice with BF4, there future isn't so bright.

1 ReplyThere are a lot of great comments on here already and to be honest there isn't much I have left to say. I feel so so let down by you Bungie and this game which im sure you worked very hard on... but you simply couldn't deliver on either end product and more importantly after care to the player's. Every single time something gets exploited its OUR fault, everything that is broken and NEEDS FIXED is over looked due to a need to fix issues that are of lesser importance to players and only important in cleaning some of the egg off your faces. Im mad today because once again an update has went through and has for unknown reasons caused me inexcusable amounts of problems, This happens every single time an update or change is made making me miss out on Bounties/daily story missions etc. Every 2 minutes I have been kicked from every game type since 10:00am today, it is now 8:40pm (error code monkey) im sure at this point thats what bungies executive team is made up of. I also wanted to let you know that my mind is now made up and as soon as Halo hits the market Destiny and any further games there after will no long be played by myself and a few other members of my group of friends. Sorry but I have spent money on a promise and I don't think you as a company have anyway of for-filling that promise any more.

7 RepliesEdited by VoxNovo: 10/28/2014 6:51:35 PMI've been playing Destiny. A lot. But I'm not a "professional raider" in the sense that I do not have a dedicated team of friends who are able to dedicate the time to figure out, plan, coordinate, and execute the VoG. But I still wanted to experience the raid. So, in lieu of any assistance from Bungie with matchmaking, I did the online thing and found a group to work with. We did our best. We died a lot. We made it to Aethon, and then people had to bail since it had taken quite awhile. So, I posted for more help and found a few new folks to join. We persevered, and kept plugging away, despite the fact that most of us only knew certain parts of what was coming or what to do. It was tough. It might not be for those who have done it repeatedly, or who have a solid group that all know their own parts, but for us it was. But we did it. It took most of the day, between the learning and the renewed matchmaking when someone had to drop, but we did it! Finally. Time to be level 28 no longer! Time for some Raid gear! Time for a sweet new weapon! I got a shader. :( Not sure I'll ever bother again. Not because I don't like the challenge, but honestly making something even more difficult while not providing an adequate reward for doing so just doesn't make it worth the time. We need a little more "Borderlands" type loot and fun, and less relentless grinding.

It's one thing to make the Raid more challenging by altering game play mechanics and another by making the encounter random. The Raid was the only thing Destiny had to offer that was challenging, it was a rather refreshing experience in an otherwise casual friendly game. Now that challenge will be more from frustration, not because it's hard but because their will be no strategy to beat Atheon. I can understand why the update removed the walk off glitch but making the time stream phase random was not just. How is it that they can make getting Raid gear even harder to obtain yet they're just going to hand out gear that's equivalent in the upcoming Iron Banner? If you're going to make the Raid harder by making it random could we please get better drops from it? I have a solution to the problem, rather than make it random all together make it select people in some sort of order. Something that we could figure out and adjust our strategy accordingly. Everyone would still get a taste of the time stream and the encounter wouldn't be random.

1 ReplyI'm not even going to get into taking actual strategy away from us with random teleports or better...USEFUL loot drops...not better exotics but drops in the raid When are the ACTUAL bugs going to get fixed? I.E. vex gates, templar detains mid-air causing instant death, damage getting through the relic's shield, connection issues which then when you reconnect you have to wait until checkpoint. WHEN?? And please don't leave us with a vague answer like "soon". The community...YOU'RE community is raging and there are other titles coming soon. Time is slim

I did it on my warlock :D

Who provides the money for these Devs to even have jobs? Who provides the demand? Your devs need to listen to the community, and listen to Deej. You want bad press and you want people to quit? tip - Don't listen to your community manager who is backed by his ENTIRE COMMUNITY. Fix it.

-blam!- you DeeJ and -blam!- you Bungie. Moving on to another game.

1 ReplyEdited by Clendo: 10/28/2014 6:50:03 PMI'm extremely grateful that this will hopefully teach everyone the proper technique for going through the portals (staying on the outside is ridiculously easy IMO). I was I a group the other day with very high levels (29s and a 30) for normal raid and they had no idea how to go through, hold the relic, kill oracles efficiently, etc. I was a warlock who did not want to push him off and had no idea how to but it was so bad that the leader ended up insisting us to push him off and it was too easy. I am very glad about this update. Thanks Bungie! :)

Edited by Naaaaasty: 10/28/2014 8:21:52 PMAs a Bungie lover and loyal fan of the Halo series and Destiny, I'mma have to say DeeJ, y'all messed up on this one. Atheon being pushed off was cheese BS, okay fine, thank you for fixing that, no more free Mythoclasts and raid helms. Atheon now randomly teleporting 3 guardians? Now that is complete garbage. As many have stated in the comments already, I have to agree that the very core of the Vault of Glass is team work. Every aspect and part comes down to teamwork. Activating the spire in the beginning? 3 teams of 2, control the plate. Get to the first chest even, it takes teamwork to make sure every single guardian gets there before even 1 person opens the chest or the person behind has a possibility to miss out on ascendant materials. Templar? Needs teamwork to cover the confluxes, oracles, and coordination with removing his shield and taking him out. Gorgon maze? Everyone needs to stick together. In the wise words of The Joker, "It's all part of a plan." Where the hell is the plan in the raid? Why are we getting patched with some stupid randomization when there are SO many other issues with the Atheon fight? I absolutely cannot even count how many times my team has failed and died on the raid due to a glitch such as the portals not sending everyone through, Atheon sending 2 or 4 people through his timestream, the hobgoblins in the past / brown / left portal somehow taking no damage from a relic dive attack and one shotting someone in the portal. These are only a few of the many, many issues we've all had. The point is, fix the broken parts of the vault, not the one thing that the damn VoG is centered around, teamwork.
-
1 ReplyKinda late for a fix imho. The loot is already out there. Why not fix all of the bugs in the fight? Walking through the port and ending up in no mans land. Random explosion at the end of the portal once the oracles are down. Random splash damage making it through the relic shield. Mobs regening health while being attacked. The list goes on. Still a fail raid.

Edited by Muted: 10/28/2014 8:10:34 PMThe raid sucks 1. It's easy af (for some/most ppl) 2. Loot (well most ppl hate the loot system) 3. It's the only thing in the game that's left besides PvP 4. HC players will have no problem still bc we know how to play every roll PS. If anyone decides to judge my stats by clicking my profile (cuz some do when you criticize this game), don't. I farm characters for nightfall loot/raid loot multiple times thru the week in hopes for better loot. (Sadly my luck sucks) Fk rng!!
-
i still say it seems alot like the upset kid ruining the game cuz he was losing and then took his ball away from the others so no one can play... truthfully dose not matter to me but i know it will mater to the rookies that no one will raid with seems more like all you have done is just made it harder for up and coming guardians to excel and prosper.... but any who no one really cares (no one here thats for sure) lots of wasted time is all i see here

113 RepliesThe abridged version Community feedback means nothing. We can, and will, contradict ourselves at any point so deal with it.

What about those who don't have the best weapons and the players who aren't a high enough level to kill things effectively? It's gonna be hard to take my little cousin through the raid when he's a level 24 if he gets sent through the time gate. He'll die in one shot so the relic is tough to use and he can't kill oracles fast enough. He would've been assigned to opening portals but now it's just gonna be a big mess. Another thing that bothers me is that certain people have weapons and abilities better suited to kill Atheon while others have weapons better suited to kill oracles. I have gjallerhorn so I'm better to be outside (I can easily do both, don't get me wrong). I hate the randomization, I like pushing Atheon off patch, but still -blam!- Bungie for the randomization. It makes it so much harder to help the new guys through the raid if we can't walk them through each role, inside and out, and wipe until they get the hang of it.
