Thoughts and Opinions about Atheon's Revenge.

So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh? I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns. I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?" I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy." At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done. This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them. If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you. Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

  • Lord everyone is literally disappointed with the whole random teleport thing. If random teleport was intended why wasn't it there day 1? If it's a bug then you guys are one of the worst developers I've seen. Hell the raid is still broken, why do I have to go to orbit to see the rewards? I'm not blaming you Deej, I think you're just an honest dude with a shitty job. Dealing with people that honestly don't care about the product they put out. Everyone is upset because the raid is the only thing most of us high levels can do now. Why are the developers forcing players to play a certain way? It's so frustrating to try and provide feedback while feeling like none of it Is taken into account. Deej we all care about destiny and want it to be a better game but come on man. Call of duty looks to be more promising than what destiny has to offer in the future.

  • Atheon has become too damn strong in this update, I mean he's randomly teleporting me to orbit even when I'm not in the VoG!

    • you guys are the slowest to update a game that I have ever seen now I have to wait another week for the vex fix if its even going to be fixed next week. That well be 4 weeks since nerf to pve.

    • DeeJ, I know this isn't at the top of your to do list but could there be a way to change our characters appearance. People could change hair and markings for like 1,000 glimmer or something and to change your whole race and gender could be like 10,000 glimmer. Also could we take out shaders and just let us choose what colors we want to be. Thanks

      Fix wipe/rage-inducing bugs like players not being teleported out of the time flux, enemies randomly regenerating health etc.. Then fix the "nice-to-have" bugs. The fact that a bug that didn't effect the ability to finish the encounter was fixed before bugs that create wipes and work against the player in a way it wasn't meant to feels like you don't really care as much as you say you do. Maybe fixing the teleporting was simple and took less than an hour to find and fix, so you said 'why not'. Anything other than that is bad prioritization and hurts my feels. Edit: Thank you for fixing the boss cheese though, that's a bunch of crap and I'm glad I was never in a group that wanted to do it.

      The Atheon exploit is one thing, but the randomisation of the teleports is an entirely different story. Just seems to me that you guys were once again dissatisfied with people beating this game, and wished to artificially prolong it. Assigning people jobs based on their class and/or level, gear and ability is certainly nothing new in mmos. I don't see anything wrong with that, it's called teamwork, and cooperation. It's all about efficiency. Randomisation of the teleport doesn't make the raid 'hardcore' either... Teams/clans will still be able to do it with relative ease, so who you really are punishing are the people who haven't been able to find a group of 5+ to play with frequently, or have chosen to fly solo. There is no matchmaking system to speak of... Honestly I can't even be bothered to go on. I'm just happy Dragons Age is just around the corner.

      • Can't even play destiny ever since the update went live. So I don't care about atheons revenge I care about error code monkey and why the hell I can't play for more than 5 minutes without getting disconnected.

      • I was hoping the delay in releasing the patch was because the decision to randomly teleport players was being reversed due to the communities overwhelming dislike of the mechanic being altered. It seems we're hearing a lot of "we're listening" but apart from IB (whos alterations are just words in the wind at this point in time) not a lot of positive changes have come from that feedback. Im extremely dissapointed this decision wasnt reversed, we want to use strategy and designated roles not be ruled by rng for every encounter. My team will be fine, we will adjust quickly. Many other teams wont. The raid is already hard for a good deal of people. Many people still cant clear it quickly or regularly as evidenced by the popularity of cheesing and save sharing. My team is about to start mentoring other members of our clan through the raid. Even given the amount of experience weve had ( which should count for something) the odds of clearance have just decreased dramatically. Instead of building confidence, experience and raid strategies for them this change may end up discouraging from entering the vault again. Stopping the Atheon cheesing is a great thing and long overdue imo, and I thank you and all involved for implementing it. Thats where it should have stopped. I hope this teleport change is reversed for the sake of all new raiders and also for all existing teams who have developed effective strategies and playstyles to conquer this part of the raid.

      • I think that baby bumpers were a necessary patch obviously the hardest boss in the game wasn't meant to be beaten in under 30 seconds. Either way with a good team you can still beat atheon easily if people know their roles... Or can you? Roles have now been thrown out the window..... You said you wanted us to use strategy to beat the raid so you decided to make things random? How does this make sense???? If you wanted to make the raid harder this was not the way to do it! All you did was make it so we can no longer take noobs through the raid (which is one of my favorite things to do). Many people have still not done raid and now they definitely won't now you need at least 4 people that know how to use relic so you can't get 3 people who don't know how to use it teleported! It's been shown dev team doesn't know what they are doing from the various nerfs and lack of buffs for example some exotics don't even feel exotic and never have and some that used to no longer do..... Look dev team please don't throw our strategy out the window although I understand that you are sad I can run through the raid in the time it takes to do a nightfall but that's you're fault for not giving us more content.... You want us to go back to spending up to 10 hours on the raid but unless you add more raids (or even strikes) we will continue to master the few things we can do and I'm not talking about dlc we deserve more content in initial game (pve not pvp) Dev team/deej so far you have proved you care only about pvp from the various nerfs and lack of buffs you seem intent on getting us into pvp because you realize there is nothing for us to do in pve....I keep wishing for this game to turn into something other than doing 3 things a week (nightfall, weekly, raid) and making these harder aren't the answer we need more and I will not play you're stupid pvp and once COD comes out the pvp maps will be empty so have fun with you're game bungie because if you don't give us something outside of dlc you're planets will be empty and I'll be playing dragon age

      • I like the new fix, Just cleared The Hard Raid in less then one hour without pushing off Atheon on my Titan. I think he got few more buffs outside of random porting and baby bumper. Second Vex Mythoclast was a good reward.

      • I can see the casual gamer or people with lousy teammates and bad communication hating this patch. It sucks that it'll take longer, but it will weed out the weak from the strong and limit who you take. Just a shame it wasn't right the first time. We'll get over it though. GL guardians.

        • So I get Monkey and Couco (sp?) And I can't play the game. Never had issues before you guys decided to do a patch (remember what I had posted about fixing a "bug"?) I like the suggestion from someone to see you guys go through the raid with your current changes. Would be interesting. That is if you could connect to the servers for more than 5 minutes at a time..

        • what the atheon fix does for people: PROS: -eliminates cheese via knocking atheon off -raid gear being obtained shows that one has learned to beat this already difficult piece of endgame content CONS: -the entire raid, up until atheon, is about knowing one's role and carrying it out effectively. it is now a complete cluster-blam!- of "WTF GIVE ME THE RELIC YOU SUCK WITH IT" and "HOW DO I CLEANSE?" -the above gives raid vets no incentive to take newbies onboard, because there's no reason to have johnny mcnewatthis as your 6th over the guy who already knows how to do everything. i for one have no intention to ever bring someone new in unless i know them personally, because it's going to be a 5 (and that's being optimistic) or more hour wipe-fest until they learn and i personally refuse to go through the meticulous process of teaching them bit by bit.

        • Really? Basically you told the developers our opinion and they said, "No, it's okay, we know what's best for them. Random teleport it is. And that Thorn and Bad Juju patch, just tell them eventually, cause as long as we patch it before this game ends, it's not a lie."

              You've ruined class specific loadouts for said raid. That's pretty dumb if you ask me DeeJ. I understand making it harder but you've counteracted the actual game mechanic you guys put in the game to begin with. And that really is a shame. And the real big issue here is with these changes no "good" raiders are gonna take new guys through now. You've just taken away even MORE of this games little social interaction away. Shame.

              • I'd be somewhat more accepting of the "randomization" change if it didn't feel like such a blatant lie. Given the history of disingenuous patches, this isn't an easy pill to swallow. It's especially compounded by the flimsy excuse "The raid was never supposed to be easy." You can shut up right there if that's all they have to say on it. You MAY be reading, but it's clear it doesn't matter either way.

              • Good to know you tried, you personally didn't ignore it. I haven't done a Raid yet myself (due to time constraints) but now that they're evolving into something more nightmarish it doesn't make me feel any less intimidated. Are we supposed to look back on the Raiders of the pre-patch days and say "you had it easy" ?
