Thoughts and Opinions about Atheon's Revenge.

So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh? I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns. I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?" I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy." At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done. This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them. If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you. Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

    • Its way too late to decide its not hard enough, especially when the best rewards have already been nerfed. Increasing the difficulty 6 weeks after the raid has been dominated? This is backwards thinking. The raid is no longer a mountain to climb, especially for those who would seek the imaginary challenge those fool devs are dreaming of. Add an additional difficulty level with better rewards or just make your next raid harder. Do you really need to alienate more of the people who are playing? Content is the problem, loot distribution is the problem, fun factor is the problem. How far in outer space are the devs to choose these priorities? Nerf the boring, buff the fun.

    • Hello Deej This is the only time i will ever speak respectful to you / about you. Just finished reading a team in V.O.G. reported atheon didnt send just 3 random players , atheon sent a random number of team if not all the team to timestream causing a forced whipe. Why Deej now more than ever we the gamers are sure Destiny is broken and Bungie is only hurting not helping. With so much wrong in the game Bungie didnt fix anything only broke it even more. P.s. the "gift" at the postmaster didnt even work WTF!!!!! cant even get the apology / holiday gift right. Honestly i am not investing anymore emotion or effort in this game im just gonna sit back and watch this disaster sink and get swept under the rug. Destiny = Fail Titanfall , Ghosts , and Watchdogs are saying welcome to the brotherhood to Destiny

    • Would be nice if i could actually play without getting error code weasel or monkey. And then when I finally get in and stay in one of my fireteam members get booted. And bringing in a fresh person randomly doesn't seem like a very good idea just because of how hectic the end would get with someone who never was transported before. Most of my regular fireteam now say they aren't coming back till fixes come through....fml

RNG= not rewarding those who put time and effort into gaming. the link im posting is pretty much everything you need to know. for atheons revenge random teleports take away from the whole " team work" thing. raids are about planing out who is doing what role before you get messed up. bungie is being very hypocritical. ask anyone who has played any type of MMO RPG out there they will say that in order to have good team work you have to have both the attack and support roles covered. randomizing who gets teleported and such means no such teamwork can exist in the raid. therefore i can conclude by saying this decision is taking Destiny in the WRONG DIRECTION! the fact that only 5 mins ago bungie had another HUGE server issue is proof that they arent taking care of the most important things. look at past gaes that have done well in the MMO RPG field like WoW. right out of the bat people loved the game and they continued to love it. even now i have firends that say that the original WoW was incredible and that they would gladly go back to play it any day of the week. then you look at Destiny. it shows no sign of getting better and whats worse is that the devs arent doing anything to help. this so called 10 year plan is just a pipe dream unless they really start listening to their players. and not just from a PvP side. the vast majority of these fixes have not been because they listened to the players i know this because nothing has gotten fixed. we are tired. we want change in the good way but all bungie has done is said "The Raid is never supposed to be easy."and "Knocking a boss off a ledge is a bug. We will seek to address bugs like these as quickly as possible." just look at how people are reacting to the game RIGHT NOW and tell me it will last 10 years. overall destiny was great but, because of devs who are so overly obsessed with correcting every little flaw in the game, it has become so obnoxiously frustrating. not that its hard. its boring, repetitive, and over all just bad game design has left gamers with very unsatisfied views on this game. bungie has failed at making a product that would keep me interested in it. not because the original product was bad, but because the devs themselves are running the game into the ground. its frustrating to me that i dont have any say in this matter because they DONT read these comments. and they DONT care. they want everything to be done according to their view points. open world is joke in this game. bungie had a budget of over 500 million dollars and all we get is a game thats not even worth playing 8 hours of? that's ridiculous. over all im gonna be switching to far cry 4 and COD AW.       • Will be selling destiny tomorrow. You guys constantly tweak the truth in your patch notes and insist we play the game incorrectly. Deej im sad to see you play the fall guy for a terrible company that had a good solid game and are driving it straight into the ground. Make changes or destiny will be lucky to hit its 2 year mark nevermind 10.

      • The raid is still easy. Teach people that dont know what to do how to do it. Bring the right gear for the job. Pull your own weight and communicate. Hard VoG is and always was meant for a team of level 30s. If you go in with a bunch of 28s and 29s, dont complain that its too hard. Especially if your weapons arent maxed. Stomped out the raid today, taught 2 people to use the relic, atheon was still pathetic. #lrn2destiny

          I love Bungie and the games they make. I started playing your games since Halo 2, and played every Halo. Halo is by far my favorite game franchise, just because it has evolved so much over the years. I love it. I have 5 days and 8 hours played on Destiny and I'm not stopping anytime soon. This game is perfect in my opinion, but the raid is lacking in terms of challenging. It's easier than getting the Endure vidmaster challenge on Halo 3: ODST. I still haven't gotten that vidmaster to this date. The Vault of Glass isn't that hard at all. It isn't that it's easy, it's just not that challenging since everybody has played it and found the best strategies and apply them making it a cakewalk. I wish I was one of the lucky few that participated the Raid for the first time. They must have been challenged as I was when I first did the raid. Now, it's just another strike it seems like. I feel like if you would make the next raid much longer it would be more enjoyable and challenging. Maybe making puzzles, or more than one maze that is different for each player (maybe make 12 different mazes and whatever number that player rolls on the random number table he gets teleported to the maze) with the possibility of going in there with another player. Just something that wouldn't make the raid so easily beaten in such little time. The hard mode world record (that has been recorded) is 29 minutes and 13 seconds. That certainly makes your raid look so insignificant. Make up your mind. If you've changed your view on how the groups should be made, then [b]please[/b] add matchmaking for the raid. That would up the ante on willing to adapt and improvise. It would only make sense to do so. [quote]the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous[/quote] The final boss Atheon is easier to kill than the Fallen Tank Public Event (Killing the Noble Fallen Walker) which is relatively easy to kill. If your piers believe that it isn't supposed to be easy, then add some degree of difficulty. The hardest part of the raid (which isn't even that hard) is either the jumping puzzle (for some), or defending all three confluxes. Again, those aren't even hard. Everybody knows what happens in the raid and how to do things, your raid isn't hard. It's just a third strike on Venus (in my eyes). Thank you for reading and I hope you take some to of the things I pointed to your piers in charge of the raid.

        • I don't get to play often due to college, but I have still been able to do the raid and I can say I don't feel good going through time. I have done it a few times and got through it but I am not a pro by any means when holding the shield. Can I learn? Yes. But will I learn fast enough to help my team and not slow us down? I don't think so.

Just make the gatekeeper in each portal a necessity to kill to be transported back to the atheon battle.. Honestly the oracle is a bit much and sorta lame. People being warped in wouldn't have to know a special role, and everyone can kill stuff. Leave the relics in the part before atheon (Templar and pre-Atheon battle) but just get rid of it on the actual boss fight.

        • Wow every reply is the same: Fix loot system the RNG is boring. Add story content. Make a reason besides VM to do hard raids. Give us even more incentive to grind endgame content. All this is true and much more.

          • I'm hopeful for some of the things you said you'd be working on, namely, exotics and more bounties. However as a solo player with social phobia (making my mic useless because I never use it), the hard raid is now almost impossible and I can't see myself doing the normal very easily (and I wanted the epilogue and fate bringer so bad;) ) this patch affects me negatively. I'm not saying change the patch, doctor it towards the majorities with teams, not the minorities like me. I was just giving my overall thoughts on it
