Thoughts and Opinions about Atheon's Revenge.

So, the update just went live. Atheon can no longer be pushed off his platform. He'll also select people at random to be thrown across time. He's a real bastard, eh? I talked a lot to the developers about your opinions on the matter. You don't want to be selected at random. You want to choose who gets to fetch the Relic under fire from those nasty Oracles. I spoke on your behalf. Your voice was heard. We discussed your concerns. I even said "Why not just change Hard Mode and leave Easy Mode alone?" I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy." At that point, I recalled all the times I stood and delivered the line "...the most challenging encounter we've ever created." It was hard to disagree. As a veteran of Cairo Station on Legendary in Halo, I had to admit that I had been carried through the Raid like luggage assigned to my clan. I did my own carrying later, but carrying had been done. This is an activity that was designed to be undertaken by a hardcore team that is ready and willing to adapt and improvise to changing battle conditions. Like the moment when the Templar shields random players, the Final Boss was supposed to be extremely dangerous. While we've been working on some of the other things for which you've been asking (i.e. better exotics, voice chat in matchmaking, more bounties), the designers who made the Raid have plugged the holes that you showed them. If you got in on the ground floor of this thing, we thank you. If you understand the mechanics for how to beat Atheon, it's still a thing you can teach your friends. If you're all up to the challenge, the Raid is waiting for you. Let's talk about it. Please sound off in this thread, and know that I'll be reading.

  • How do Bungie developers explain the massive continual Bungie.net traffic drop after a large spike in purchases then? http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/bungie.net Proof is in the pudding and you can kiss a ten year plan goodbye if you choose to do things your way instead of the players way. things

  • I really don't ever post because no big deal enough too haha But hopefully you read this DeeJ, the randomness is fine it really doesn't make it too much harder and kinda changes things up so no worries I think its a decent move now that I've experienced it. However, idk if anyone else has been experiencing it but it seems atheon is clutching out like crazy, we have had it where he randomly only sends 1 person, 2 people, 5 people, nobody in and we have to open the portal to get the relic, etc. Its funny but makes it almost impossible to do on a glitches attempt. Sometimes it'll work perfectly but every now and then glitches out. I just wanted to bring it to attention in case they hadn't known about it so it can be fixed asap :)

Someone already found another way to cheese him. Need to fix that now... On another note I'm not upset by either change at all. I started to get annoyed with people asking for the checkpoint to cheese him and even the normal groups I rolled with wanted to push him off. On normal... I also see that the random teleportation makes it (apparently almost) impossible for the Atheon push again. Instead of the community whining about it, they need to realize they brought it upon themselves with their constant cheesing.

  • Gave up playing Bungie not being funny but i'm glad i play on my friend's downloaded version of the game. Because if i had actually bought destiny i'd be demanding a refund. I would list why but honestly you guys need to take a look at your players views on the game. Back in the day Bungie you made some kick-ass games and part of the reason i play games now is due to halo and starwars knights of the old republic. By the way KOTOR is vastly superior to destiny i still play those games to this day and the first KOTOR came out in 2003. I also spent a fair amount of time on halo 3. My guess as to why this has failed to meet expectations is probably due to Activision's involvement they have been failing to make a good game since Call of duty 4 which was around the same time as halo 3. It looks like the pair of you went downhill from there.

  • So I just completed the raid with my team. The random teleport was honestly fine with us. But, the problem occurred when the first time only I got teleported instead of me and two other people. Had to wipe. Then a bit later only two of us got teleported. Although we made it through that time fine it was still rough cause we didn't have the helping hand of that third person. Am I the only one that has had this problem? To me this is a bigger issue than the back three people being teleported if it's a regular thing.

  • You'll be reading and have been reading but its pretty obvious to the community that it doesn't matter that much. The dev team has its own agenda and there is no connection between what we say and what is done to the game. Preventing Atheon from falling I can understand and I somewhat agree. However, its not like people are using cheats. No. They are using the AI and their own character abilities to win against a boss. I also feel that saying that the random teleport was a fix is a bit offensive towards the community. You fix mistakes. It was not a mistake. It was simply a mechanic of the Raid that people figured out and that you didn't expect to happen. Because the community was inteligent enough to figure it out, you deem it a mistake and needing of a fix. What needed a fix was the issue of miss teleports. Of how for example, people can get teleported into different worlds or even when two people are teleported only, etc etc. Fixes are needed when the relic doesn't work as it should. Or how you can kill the oracles and still be killed by them. And many other things. Those are mistakes, bugs, etc that need a fix. I've said this many times: I like Destiny. But Destiny is obvious, doesn't like me. Teams can beat the Raid in hard mode and in the end get a sparrow or a ship. "Oh, yes...a legendary loading screen". How rewarding for a weeks worth of grinding and fighting. I'd give suggestions but what is the point? Explain to me, DeeJ, whats the point of the so much desired feedback? It falls on deaf ears and hallow minds. The community rises and makes their voice clear. A voice you aknowledge. We oppose the Random selection of team members for teleports. We give our reasons. Logic,. Objective. You reply saying "We hear you" and then label the issue a fix...as if we were exploiting the game's mechanics. We cracked it. Quite different from exploiting it. It was another piece of the puzzle "who goes inside the portals?". Randomizing everything will kill this game. Loot is ridiculous. You grind grind grind grind grind at level 28 to get 1 blue drop in a sea of 200 green boot drops. You end a 4 or 5 hours raiding experience only to get a shader and a quircky loading screen. You cna be the best in a crucible match and get nothing or be the worse and get a legendary. Fix those issue. Make the experience more rewarding and people will come back. Keep it as it is, and people will not. I said I wouldn't but I can resist. Give the rewards for Raiding and Nightfall a similar loadout as it has for the weekly strike: - X EXP points - X Strange Coins - X Ascendant Materials - 3 Blue Engrams - 2 Legendary Engrams - 1 Exotic Engram - 1 Raid Engram (raid items only: weapons or armor exclusive to engram) - 1 Random loot Because, I dunno if someone has noticed but you advance more in the game by doing the daily 3 times each day, then the 2 weekly things 3 times a week than you do in doing the raid 3 times per difficulty. And sorry DeeJ but for something that is supposed to be so epic and what not, thats ridiculous. Hope you listen and all but I know it won't change anything. Sadly enough, you're doing this wrong. I just hope the team won't regret how they are leading the game forward in the near future. But I have a feeling they will.

    • Deej... why? I'm honestly disappointed in you. Not you, Deej... but you, as in Bungie. I've played through Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST... every Halo. I've been supporting you guys so long, but Destiny is a major let down. Not just for me, and you know this. Thousands, probably over a hundred thousand people, are disappointed in you. Seriously, what has happened? You guys give us a great game, yet you focus on all this little stuff. Congratulations, Atheon can no longer be pushed and players are randomly teleported. Told us this would happen a couple weeks ago, and it FINALLY happened. You know what you could have been doing all that time? Fixing this gosh forsaken game. There are so many things we should have, yet we don't. Why not focus on perfecting the DLC? Why not focus on fixing OP guns to balance the crucible? Mostly, why not ADD to the Crucible? Remember Halo? You know, that game where people LOVED the PvP? If you haven't understood yet, it's because it sucks ass on Destiny. I'm sorry, but it does. There is so little option, and what is given, is just bad. What ever happened to CTF? What ever happened to KOTF? Oddball? Infection? WHAT HAPPENED?! Honestly Deej, I wish I could help you guys... but this can only be fixed by you. No matter what we, the community, the people that make what you do worth it by buying your games do... this can only be fixed by you, Bungie... and you only. And before you say something like "Your feedback has been noted," just stop. I've heard that enough. Knock off the act and give us back what we used to love... give us Bungie.

      • Raid doesn't matter to me, it's the patch made to the server. I've never had any problems except for the mongoose and I had a simple work around. Now I have gotten a variety of animals, sheep once, monkey more than I can count, and weasel is five or more.

      • I just did the hard raid with a group of 6 lvl 30's. Atheon really wasn't an issue but a group of only lvl 29's might find it impossible.

        • DeeJ-- It's really this simple: Bungie can't claim to be excited about all the ways people will find to play Destiny differently, then change the mechanics of the game because they don't like how some people are actually playing the game. Simply put, it comes across as disingenuous.

        • You know Deej, the first time I fought Atheon I thought the teleporting was random. We all did. We also didn't know what to do when we got teleported and wiped...and wiped, and wiped, and wiped until we had alomost lost hope of clearing the final boss. It was a pain in the ass and a headache that lasted for hours. But, the results of those countless deaths was what was special. Everytime we wiped and reset we had a little more experience and knowledge of what was going on. We started to learn the ins and outs of the hardest challenge we've ever faced. But, what really got us going and made us come together as a team was learning that Atheon teleported the players farthest away. That is when we started to devise a strategy that included splitting up in groups of three, based on who was good at what, to yeild the best results. The end result felt rewarding and, most importantly, fun. This portion of the raid required the most teamwork than any before. Now, when the raid was first released, Bungie themselves put an emphasis on the immense amount of strategy and teamwork required to finish it. They used those points as the main reason why no match making could be implemented. I fail to understand how randomizing things will force better teamwork than a mechanic that could be used to our advantage. Randomness is no representation of skill. It would most likely make it a little more challenging, but at what cost? Remember, the first team to finish the raid did it in 12 hours. This was done by the organized and quite skilled guys at Prime Guard. A mission that takes that long complete the first time around by a team of that magnitude is quite challenging enough. But, a quick look at their videos shows they went through the same learning process and applied tactics stated earlier using teamwork to get through it. Randomizing things will relinquish that kind of teamwork. I believe that the telportation during the Atheon fight should be reverted back to how it was before. The previous method required more teamwork and strategizing than the newly implemented one. We were able to apply our skills in ways not possible with being randomly teleported. Deej, i hope you listen to this criticism and bring attention to the developers on this matter. Thank you and thanks to anyone who takes the time to read this.
I was told "The Raid is never supposed to be easy."
Funny that, because the raid is usually a walk in the park on normal. I did it on Sunday with a group of people that, apart from 2, had never set foot in the VoG before. It took us like 50 minutes to an hour.... It's not hard. Not as hard as you'd like to think anyway.... Atheon is like all the other bosses in Destiny: a harmless, braindead, bullet sponge. Adding a random teleport mechanic won't change that.

          • Hey deej... How's it going? That bad huh? Well if your telling us you tried to tell them how we felt and they to you to shhh!... Maybe you should quit on our behalf. If they won't listen to you then we all know that they don't care about us. Its not you... Its them bro! I'm sure you won't have any issue finding a position at a company with ears.... Maybe the nerfed those too! Good luck my friend and hope things start getting better ie. They grow some ears, and balls and own their mistakes and stop fixing things that really are not broken

          • It's not unplayable, and I'm very excited to try the new encounter with my core group; people who calmly communicate, don't often talk over each other, and are willing to put in the effort to get good at each part of the encounter, including relic. Just talking about that team makes me want to play with them. But please fix Templar exploit. I've been using it many times and I don't want the temptation anymore. I do think the raid should be as hard as core players are able to go, and this increase brings that closer.

            • This game is based on grinding. Your "Raid" is no exception. It has already been beaten countless times and its secrets have been revealed. You did absolutely nothing to improve your game. The only thing you've done is made it harder for those who put in the effort to get to level 30 while many undeserving players are running around with mythoclasts in full raid gear. Meanwhile 90% of PvP players use 1 of 2 overpowered guns and half of your exotics perform worse than their legendary counterparts...

            • Well the raid kind of is easy at least on normal compared to heroic strikes and nightfall that players tend to use as a stepping ground into the raids. Some of the heroic and nightfall strikes even cheesed require more skill than the normal raid. Having fights with mechanics other than just bullet sponges does make the raid more fun once you get one off the ground. The hardest and most frustrating thing of the raids is the plethora of wipe inducing bugs that have yet to be fixed.

            • *points towards the obese elephant in the room that's still being ignored* Story. Still ignored. Cryptarch fixed. Sorta. Random impossible event bounties. Must wear rank 2 gear the day it started.... what? Stability issues fixed. Sorta. Weapons fixed. Nope. Events fixed. They occur more often, sure. Raid fixed. Enemies now have the same baby bumpers that players do. K. Hold my pocket for this guided tour. Destiny was sold on potential. I hope that Bungie will get back to its roots and focus on developing the games of their dreams. While Destiny is loaded with tons of heart, the follow up "fixes" since release have felt incredibly empty. I don't know what your meetings are really like DeeJ, but from the outside looking in, there's a break in the chain between community and developers.

              • I'm more upset that they are implying the raid is only for a select group. So what about the rest of us that aren't in the 1% that can form a group to take on the raid in hard mode. You haven't given us an option for match making Bungie. You're saying we are SOL, we bought the game and don't meet your qualifications to do the raid? And if we did it's up to us to search the internet to find a fire team the do the raid? What about casual gamers who want to experience the only decent portion of this game? Should we be content playing the same mindless bounties, strikes and limited crucible matches over and over again? You're 10 year dream game is crumbling in front of you losing player base within months of release, upsetting loyal customers daily. You can't keep this up for another year let alone 10... Fix what's actually broken. Your boss is actually your customer base not the guy in the comfy chair that signs your paycheck. With out loyal fans you'll end up another studio that once created great games living in the shadow of your former self.

              • Make the raid worth the effort. Almost 20 runs through the raid and two armor drops. Its not worth it. You resolve these bugs that we saw as perhaps part of the puzzle you intended us to solve. Instead you see it as a bug that needs immediate attention. Without resolving pre-existing bugs, ie: invincible minotaur, glitching outside the containment bubble and instantly dying, etc. That's just to name a few. Before you try to "fix" the raid, actually fix the raid. I wont pay to beat my head against the (content) wall, I can do that at home for free. Hell, I'll probably get more out of it too. The short and skinny of it is that your driving away casual and hardcore players alike. We want to love this game. But we also want the game to show us a little love too from time to time. No one wants to be the needy one in the relationship. Either you dump, or you get dumped. I want to stick around for the long haul. But my patience is paper thin right now. I'll be around long enough for Dragon Age to come out. If things aren't better, I'll be off playing an actual RPG.
